With apologies in advance to Ms. Bonnie Raitt… I’m just gonna put it all out there and y’all something to talk about…
In my opinion Joe Biden cost the Democrats the November election and was the main reason why Trump will occupy the White House for the next four years… and just four years… hopefully.
While Biden has “enjoyed” a long and kinda, sorta illustrious political career but he was never the guy in the Democratic Party… he was always playing second fiddle to someone else in the orchestra.
Yeah, even when he was president…
Let’s face facts, a lot of folks in 2020 voted for Biden not because they liked his policies, but because he was qualified, decent (at least by most political and sociological standards), and was we the people’s best shot at preventing Trump for four more years. A helpful kicker to those on the fence in deciding whether to vote for Biden or not came from Biden himself when during his campaigning prior to the 2020 election he repeatedly said that he would serve only one term… and for a lot of 2020 voters that mattered, especially for certain conservatives who were on the fence for who they were going to cast their ballot… but… who also had enough of Trump and his utter disdain and lack of respect for the rule of law and the American principles of liberty and justice for all.
As early as 2019 Biden was telling his aides and various campaign people that if elected, he wouldn’t run again. In fact as recently as this past July Biden himself acknowledged that he’d initially ran his 2020 campaign with the expectation that he’d “pass it on to somebody else.” By signaling that he would only serve one term and by promising to select a running mate and Cabinet that was full of young (at least younger than the soon to be octogenarian Biden) and kinda, sorta of diverse (combination of moderate and progressive policies) Biden was presenting himself to we the people as the candidate best suited to eat Trump as well being the candidate who would usher America into a new era of younger and more productive politics for America’s future and wellbeing.
The prevalent thinking among many of those on-the-fence folks was… “I’d love to have an election this year for the next generation of leaders, but if in order to get rid of Trump and his Trump-centric politics I have to vote for a Democrat… I’m doing it.”
The belief that Biden, if he won, would be a man of his word, and only serve one term was a big help to swinging a significant number of votes his way (despite what Trump and his political toadies would have us all believe) to be elected in 2020. A vote for Joe Biden…. a Democrat, a moderate-liberal and the enemy… did not necessarily mean they were voting for a lifetime of Democratic Party/Liberal policies, but merely as a means to an end… get Trump out of the White House once and for all.
But as we all know… he lied.
Not only did he run again, driven (IMO) by no small part to finally be the guy and attach an exclamation point to his political and personal legacy, but in doing so he shut out any possibility of the Democrats having a real and productive primary season whereby the party’s candidates could put strategies for America’s future both economically as well as sociologically. But when it became obvious his polling numbers were tanking… for various reasons including what was perceived as a serious and obvious decline in his mental and physical faculties… it was becoming apparent he would be fated to lose in 2024 he was being encouraged to drop out the race.
Still it would take Biden months before he would do the right thing and step aside and by then, as history would show us all, it was much too late for his replacement VP Kamala Harris to run a campaign that showed we the people she wasn’t Biden and had a real and cohesive plan to keep America working for each and every one of we the people instead of profiting and being for the benefit of the one per cent of the one per cent.
Harris ran a campaign as well as she could with the time she had at hand but in the end.. it wasn’t enough to convince enough voters she wasn’t Biden and that she offered America a better future than anything Trump as offering… especially in so far as most of we the people’s perception of the economy and why the cost of goods and services was putting a hurting on many folk’s weekly pay checks.
Which frankly is mostly, if not totally wrong.
By most capitalistic standards the American economy is stable and improving every on every quarterly financial report and projections…. the cost for goods and services going up… is largely and mostly due to corporate greed.
Yes, the prevailing conservative line is that many of Biden’s policies were severely retarding the U.S. economy and was “the” reason why Americans were feeling the pain at the cash registers wherever they shopped for their daily goods and services to get from one day to the next.
It didn’t help the Democrats case that the massive stimulus package that Biden signed onto early in his presidency was part of why prices up for the U.S. consumer and hiked the rate of inflation to aa near untenable 9.1% … which coincidentally is now down to a very manageable 3.3%. and has been improving every quarter.
And while I’m no economic expert I thought it was a dumb ass move when Biden didn’t just decide to keep Trump’s tariffs intact… which was a big part of why we the people were spending more and enjoying it less… but he went and announced tariff hikes on an additional $18 billion of Chinese goods for an additional tax increase of $3.6 billion which wound being an average tax increase on U.S. households of $625 for the year.
Never did understand the logic of why Biden and the Democratic party allowed those tariffs to not only remain in place but then they turned around raised them.
Ultimately and unfortunately the Republicans ran, and in my opinion still do run, a better propaganda machine to dispense large scale misinformation about the state of the American economy (as well as immigration) to we the people than the Democrats did to spread the facts… and the truth… of the same.
But that, combined with Bidens’ lie about serving just one term, is pretty much why Harris lost.
It’s why right now we have Trump back in power and the capitalists are salivating at the mouth for the potential windfall of profits heading their way and why many, if not most of, we the people are shaking with worry about how they will economically weather through the next four years living in the United States of America.
And why we have in the White House a person who has made no secret of his desire to seek revenge on those who prosecuted him or crossed him. He talks about “enemies from within,” and very recently went on NBC News’s “Meet the Press” and reaffirmed his belief that those people involved in the investigation of the events of January 6 insurrection and his failed attempt to over throw a legal and valid election should be put in prison for their actions. Among Trump’s targeted people’s list are President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, former Vice President Mike Pence and Sens. Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer… along with particular attention to be given towards conservative former congressperson and Republican Liz Cheney for her work on the House committee investigating the January 6 insurrection and for openly being against Trump and campaigning for Harris to be elected the president of the U.S.
Simply put and almost on a weekly, if not daily, basis, Trump made no secret of his desire to seek revenge on those who prosecuted him or crossed him.
And as a very possible real part of his potential “get-even” plan… that would probably put anything Nixon ever considered to shame… Trump has nominated Kash Patel to be the director of the FBI… a person who has who has listed dozens of former government officials he wanted to “come after.”
Such as when he spoke on a 2023 Steve Bannon podcast and said that he and other Trump loyalists “will go out and find the conspirators, not just in government but in the media … We’re going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections… (and)… We’re going to come after you, whether it’s criminally or civilly. We’ll figure that out. But yeah, we’re putting you all on notice…We’re actually going to use the Constitution to prosecute them for crimes they said we have always been guilty of but never have.”
To be honest… in my opinion… instead of threatening to have Biden put in prison, he should be writing Biden a thank you letter for allowing his personal politics and personal pride to interfere in accomplishing the one real job he was elected to do… keep we the people, the United States of America itself, free and safe from Trumpist politics… instead of handing Trump the next four years in the White House.
