Wrestling Roundtable

This week we discuss the arrival of EC3, Adam Cole, the Royal Rumble and much more.

Well hello there wrestling fans, welcome back to the Wrestling Roundtable. The Royal Rumble, and NXT Takeover has come and gone. We give our opinion on which show won the weekend. Do we have any new champions to report? What about the arrival of EC3 to NXT, and what is the expectation moving forward with Adam Cole? All this and much more.

1. AJ Styles

Styles is back on top after his handicap victory over Owens and Zayn. I don’t think we have seen the last of this rivalry.

2. Shinsuke Nakamura

The 2018 Royal Rumble winner eliminated favorites John Cena and Roman Reigns to win the match. He also lasted over a half an hour in the match itself. On to Mania, where he will face off against AJ Styles.

3. The Miz

A week after winning the Intercontinental Championship, The Miz had yet another victory over Roman Reigns on Raw last week.

4. Asuka

The first ever winner of the Royal Rumble, which title will Asuka go after at Wrestlemania?

5. Braun Strowman

Strowman, despite not coming away with the Universal title was dominant, and more importantly, was not beaten in the match. Strowman may be headed to Wrestlemania for a rematch?

Which show, The Royal Rumble or NXT Takeover won the weekend?

Steve: I can honestly say this and it has been awhile since I have been actually able to say this. The WWE Main Roster won the weekend. For over a year now, it appeared as if NXT Takeover literally held up to their name and took over the weekend. I would even say including Wrestlemania weekend. NXT Takeover Philly was not a bad show, it was a full of some top tier matches, and an incredible match between Cole and Black. However, the Royal Rumble did not disappoint. With the exception of a lame ass main event between Lesnar, Strowman, and Kane, the rest of the card really did well. All the right people won, the Royal Rumble womens match was fantastic and they were able to main event one of the big four events for the first time. It had the right amount of legends come back to participate, and we got to see the debut of Ronda Rousey, sporting none other than Rowdy Roddy Piper’s leather jacket. Very well put together show for the Royal Rumble, the weekend was great if you ask me.

Frosh: In protest to Braun Strowman making the power rankings this week, over Brock Lesnar, I will not be answering any questions this week.  Yes, Strowman may not have taken the pin, but he LOST THE MATCH, because HE DID NOT WIN THE MATCH.  LESNAR DID.

Chad: I will say the Rumble just because it was the first time in years I haven’t walked away from the Rumble match  questioning the big decisions of the night. Don’t get me wrong Takeover also was grat the Almas/Gargano match easily a top 5 NXT title match with the Drama involved.

Adam Cole lost to Aleister Black this past weekend. Does this hurt Adam Cole, or was Black the right guy to go over in that Extreme Rules match?

Steve: I don’t think it hurts Adam Cole at all. I think he put on one hell of a match with Aleister Black and proved that he is not just one dimensional, and he can do the hardcore stuff as well. He can take it and deliver it. If anything, I think it helps him in the long run, and I will hold true to my prediction that we will see him on the main roster sometime this year. I mean let’s face it, Cole got a spot in the Royal Rumble while Aleister Black did not, and Cole looked pretty good even though you could tell he was in quite a bit of pain.

Frosh: In protest to Braun Strowman making the power rankings this week, over Brock Lesnar, I will not be answering any questions this week.  I am against the concept of part timers (especially holding championships) as much, if not more than anyone.  But keeping Lesnar out of the top 5 this week is just asinine.  It makes no sense, and shows pure bias and inability to think clearly about the facts.

Chad:  I think Black was the right guy to win in that instance and I think having Cole enter the Rumble match shows that the loss did not hurt him.

EC3 made his return/debut back to the WWE at Takeover last weekend. How big of an impact will be make in NXT, and how soon do we see him on the main roster?

Steve: It will be a massive impact on NXT, and I think we will see championship gold around the waste of EC3 sooner than you think. I really thought we would see him on the main roster and completely jump NXT as a whole, and I think give him a year in NXT to shine, and he will be on the main roster as one of the top heels in the business within one year from now.

Frosh: In protest to Braun Strowman making the power rankings this week, over Brock Lesnar, I will not be answering any questions this week. Brock Lesnar (like it or not) is your Universal Champion, and is on his way to one of the longest reigns this decade, second only to CM Punk.

Chad: I expect EC3 to have a huge impact on the roster as he will be a main part of NXT I believe and I will say he debuts on the Main Roster the night after Wrestlemania 35.

Ronda Rousey is officially in the WWE as she made an appearance at the end of the Royal Rumble. She seems to have her sights set on Charlotte. How interested are you to see Charlotte vs Rousey at Wrestlemania?

Steve: I am one hundred percent sold on the fact that Ronda Rousey is now in the WWE. However, I may be in the minority to say that I don’t want her facing Charlotte Flair quite yet. I want to see Rousey in the ring and to prove herself that she actually belongs in the ring with some of the best female wrestlers in the business. If she debuts in ring at Mania against Charlotte, I could see this being a catastrophe, but if you let her face off against Becky Lynch, Naomi, or hell even Lana for several weeks, then lead her into Wrestlemania. I could see these two having a great match, with great hype. So I will say time will tell. Right now, I have no interest to see it until I see what Ronda can do in the ring.

Frosh: In protest to Braun Strowman making the power rankings this week, over Brock Lesnar, I will not be answering any questions this week. Braun Strowman has NEVER BEATEN LESNAR.  In fact, in their only one on one encounter, Lesnar kicked out of 3 RUNNING POWER SLAMS, and took down Strowman with ONE F-5.

Chad: It’s obviously the way that makes the most storyline sense I wonder how much “Horsewomen” involvement there is on each side. I am at least intrigued.

Stephanie McMahon announced this past Monday that we will see the first ever Womens Elimination Chamber later this month for the Raw Womens Championship. What are your thoughts on yet another monumental moment for the WWE female talent?

Steve: It seems to be the way they are going, and it probably is the last thing they can do to put the women on an equal playing field to the guys. I like the concept, and as long as the right people are in the match, I will be excited to see it. It is great for women’s wrestling once again, as they keep crashing through the glass ceiling. Funny thing is that I was watching Wrestlemania’s 20-24 recently and saw how they simply exploited these girls, playboy matches, pillow fights, lingerie matches. Now they are main eventing Royal Rumbles. Is Wrestlemania next?

Frosh: In protest to Braun Strowman making the power rankings this week, over Brock Lesnar, I will not be answering any questions this week.  I am not saying that Strowman will not reclaim a spot in the power rankings, but this week, after a successful title defense against two of the biggest monsters WWE has ever had to offer, and Lesnar doesn’t make the power rankings? HOW DISRESPECTFUL! Q.E.D.

Chad: This is basically the next to last one other than possibly main eventing a Wrestlemania they division has come a long way since basically being non existent at Wrestlemania 31.
