Homeland Security ends program allowing Haitians to seek work visas in U.S.
The article explains that Haiti is no longer on the list of countries whose people can apply for low-skilled work visas from a program that was created to help Haitians who were displaced by a devastating 7.0 earthquake in 2010. The resulting earthquake damage created a situation where inhumane conditions were more the normal circumstance than not, because the country’s infrastructure, hospitals, communications, etc… were almost destroyed. Many on the island nation were left without homes or jobs. More than 200,000 people were killed and hundreds of thousands were displaced. Due to this situation, the Obama administration granted “temporary protected status” so Haitians could come and legally live and work in the U.S.
Even to this day problems from the earthquake still plague the country. In 2017, the United Nations reported that 2.5 million Haitians were still in need of humanitarian aid and that “There are still about 55,000 people in camps and makeshift camps. Many are still living in unsanitary conditions due to displacement caused by the earthquake. We have a very long way to go.”
That is until now.
The program will ultimately end by 2019 due to a direct order from the Trumpty Dumpty administration.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rationalized the move by saying there were “high levels of fraud and abuse” from Haitians in the program and a “high rate of overstaying” from those who got visas.
Others in Trumpty’s inner circle also have said that the conditions have improved in Haiti more than enough so that the program is no longer necessary.
Which directly flies in the face of the UN report of “… a very long way to go.”
According to Reuters news services, Belize and Samoa were also removed from the list.
DHS announced this discontinuation of the humanitarian program less than a week after Trumpty asked the question during a White House meeting, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” The question was in response to an attendee who made a proposal to restore protections for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and some African nations ravaged by war and natural disasters as part of a larger immigration deal.
Is it a coincidence that the DHS announced ending a program to provide humanitarian aid to a… in Trumpty’s words… to a shithole country?
A further continuance of the Trumpty regime polarizing the United States from the rest of the world using racism and non-humanitarian methods?
Trumpty and the Porn Star…
Back in 1998, the so-called Christian right roasted Wee Willy Clinton over the coals for his sexual involvement with a White House intern… Monica Lewinsky… and his obvious infidelity towards his wife Hillary Billary.
In fact, the head of the Family Research Council back then… Gary Bauer… said, “The seamy facts under public discussion are shameful enough. But fascination with this story should not be allowed to obscure the deeper lesson these incidents impart. That lesson is this: Character counts… in a people, in the institutions of our society, and in our national leadership.”
And Bauer was not alone as plenty of well-known and prominent Christian right wingers kept up a steady drone that a person’s personal character is inseparable from what is expected from the president of the United States of America.
Just a small sample…
The Rev. Pat Robertson called for Clinton to be impeached because Wee Willy had “debauched, debased and defamed” the presidency.
Then “Focus on the Family” leader James Dobson said, “We are facing a profound moral crisis” when speaking out about Wee Willy’s actions and presidency.
Now, as Trumpty Dumpty is ensconced in the Oval Office, the Christian right is suddenly quite quiet… extremely so, in fact… even as rumors and details are being printed and talked about in the media regarding Trumpty’s 2006 hookup with a porn star just months after his wife gave birth to their son Barron.
Robertson? He has nothing to say about Trumpty and the porn star.
And Dobson? Dobson recently asked his fellow Christians to pray for Trumpty.
And nary a peep from Bauer.
Not one damn word of condemnation for improper, seamy, shameful sexual behavior or about a moral crisis.
In addition, not a word is being said about the news that Stormy Daniels… the porn star… was paid $130,000 to shut the fuck up before the 2016 election about Trumpty and her hooking up. I mean just in case she decided to maybe open her yap about fucking the elephant candidate for the presidency of America.
And, yeah, according to various media reports Trumpty’s lawyer says there is no truth to The Wall Street Journal’s story on Trumpty and the porn star, but it is common knowledge that back in 2016 various media peeps were already working on the porn star angle. One report says good old Stormy was ready to tell all about it in an exclusive interview with Slate.
That is until she decided to shut the fuck up about it all.
And curiously enough, while his lawyer says the Wall Street story is in effect hokum, no one on Trumpty’s team is denying Stormy got the $130,000 payment. OR… had anything to say about what Stormy told InTouch magazine in 2011 about her and Trumpty’s “affairs.”
And let’s not forget… this is the same man who was been caught on tape saying…
- “I moved on her like a bitch, but I couldn’t get there, and she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she’s now got the big phony tits and everything.”
- “I’m automatically attracted to beautiful [women]—I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything … Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”
Why do the Christian right, the conservative Christians, the Evangelical Christians suddenly remain quiet… silently supporting Trumpty in the face of his obvious very non-Christian words and actions?
Why does the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins, in an interview with Politico, say Trumpty is doing one heck of a bang up job for Christians so far… “a right-wing Supreme Court justice, more obstacles for women to navigate if they want an abortion, repeated acts of bigotry against LGBTQ people”… and… then when asked… “What about the shithole comment? Or the hush money allegedly paid to a porn star he had an affair with shortly after his third wife gave birth to his fifth child?”
Perkins says, “We kind of gave him … ‘All right, you get a mulligan. You get a do-over here.”
And when asked by Politico if Trumpty is “… really the sort of person evangelicals want in the White House? Doesn’t he do damage to their reputation (or at least the reputation they want to project)?”
Perkins eventually says, “I think the president is providing the leadership we need at this time, in our country and in our culture.”
And Politico asks, “As a moral leader?”
Perkins says, “As a leader.”
A leader of what?
Where are the moral values… the family values… the Christian right once criticized the Bamster for not having when he sat in The Oval Office? They no longer count any more? They get tossed into the trashcan because now they got a “leader” who will give them what they want?
Talk about hypocrisy…
I have spoken about this before… about how unholy some so-called very holy people really are when they refuse to challenge some of their favored politicians on the shit that they do…. from Trumpty all the way down the line.
Where are their bible thumping fists when its someone they want in power that participates in activities that are decidedly not about family values?
Where are the entreaties that decry the debauchery, debasement and defamation of the person sitting in the ultimate position of power in America?
Where are the declarations about how character counts?
Did they forget the part in the bible that says to love thy neighbor?
Did they forget that in both the gospels of Luke and Matthew when Christ was asked, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” The reply was, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Did they also forget another part of the gospel as told by Mathew… “Love Your Enemies and Bless Those Who Persecute You”?
Did they forget that the ten commandments exist? And the message they teach? Forget the first four… it is the next six that really matter…
Honor thy father and thy mother.
Thou shall not murder.
Thou shall not commit adultery.
Thou shall not steal.
Thou shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Thou shall not covet.
Did they forget the sermons on the mount or the beatitudes or a whole host of other dictates of the bible that speak about love, forgiveness, hope, charity, good works, taking care of the poor and the infirm, welcoming into your safekeeping those who are in need, in want of a place to be secure and safe?
Did they forget the bible and the messages, especially the new testament… the basis of their beliefs, Christianity… that speaks of love, helping thy neighbor and doing good while on this earth?
This entire situation of these men being “exposed” about their sexual improprieties… abuse, rape, etc… in some cases sexual abuse against children… part of the reason this is now a big deal is that some men… a lot more than was first thought… thought they were superior to women and could do whatever they chose.
Including the sitting president.
It is all about power… about control… about thinking they are better than all the unwashed masses of we the people. That they are owed because of their phoney piety and high standing with their version of god… their Christian version of god.
As succinctly as I can put it…
… this nonsense… this utter outrageousness… this two faced bullshit needs to stop now!
We do not live in a theocracy. And even if we did… then “god” help us if it is a theocracy based on the lies and double talk and hypocritical inanities that the Christian right believes and purports.
And their so-called moral values? Until they are used to judge all people equally and fairly, their values are simply in a state of perpetual bankruptcy and nonexistent of any value whatsoever.
The Christian right is not the boss of my… or anyone else’s … conscience.
Nor are they the final word on what virtue and morality is… especially since they don’t even seem able to follow, in a faithful and meaningful manner, the basic tenets of the book that they say is the basis and the authority of how to be a good Christian.
If, they can’t play by the same rules as they want everyone else to play by then they really have no business being in the game.
Government shutdown blame game…
I won’t go into details about the government shutdown that recently happened on Friday and over into and throughout the weekend. If, you aren’t aware about it, then either go Google it, or you really didn’t give a fuck about it in the first place and could care less now, so this isn’t for you any way.
What I will go into the details of… is this…
The elephant controlled White House updated their voice message on the automated telephone comments line to blame Democrats for the government shutdown…
Thank you for calling the White House. Unfortunately, we cannot answer your call today, because Congressional Democrats are holding government funding, including funding for our troops and other national security priorities, hostage to an unrelated immigration debate. Due to this obstruction, the government is shut down. In the meantime, you can leave a comment for the president at www.whitehouse.gov/contact. We look forward to taking your calls as soon as the government reopens.
The existence of the message was confirmed by various reporters.
Snopes website said they called and they confirmed that this was exactly what the elephants in power had done… change the telephone comments line message to blame the donkeys.
Not for nothing but remember that once upon a time Trumpty was the dude who said… when the government was shut down during the Bamster’s reign… that it was the president’s responsibility to keep it all together and get a deal done so that the government could keep on keeping on.
Now… with an elephant controlled White House… and… an elephant controlled Congress… both Houses… the Trumpty Dumpty administration sees fit to bluntly and blatantly cast blame and dispersion upon the donkeys alone for this government shutdown?
Let me let ya’ll in about another little tidbit that might also raise the temperature of your anger a tad…
Whoever works for agencies and departments that are considered nonessential, including agencies that pay out small business loans and process passport requests, will cease to work effective immediately until Congress is able to agree on a bill for the federal budget.
The employees in these departments would be placed on “furlough.”
That furlough? That means don’t come to work and don’t get paid.
Regardless of whether folks who were furloughed during government shutdowns were previously paid retroactively or not… during this weekend’s shutdown… for people who got bills to pay and mouths to feed or family to keep healthy… if a government employee worked they got not a damn penny. No paycheck to take care of whatever necessities exist or might arise expectantly.
Members of Congress, however, will still get theirs… their full pay.
Want some more?
Go back to that White House phone message… see that line about “Democrats are holding government funding, including funding for our troops and other national security priorities, hostage to an unrelated immigration debate.”
Especially that part about withholding the troops pay?
Vice President Mike Pence doubled down on that tact on Sunday while addressing troops overseas by saying, “Despite bipartisan support for a budget resolution, a minority in the Senate has decided to play politics with military pay. But you deserve better.”
What he was referencing was this… when the government shut down on Saturday, military members would continue to serve, after all they are kinda, sorta a necessity of this world (why that is, is another topic for another day), but their pay was suspended.
Pence was stating, for the record, that congressional lawmakers were playing games with military salaries. That the donkeys were holding their pay hostage over a measly little old inconsequential immigration bill. And, he was doing it in front of our troops who were in a hot zone of military activity. Soldiers who could be in harm’s way in a New York minute.
Pence continued by saying, “We’re not going to reopen negotiations on illegal immigration until they reopen the government and give you, our soldiers, and your families the benefits and wages you’ve earned.”
Pence used a meeting with troops stationed near the Syrian border to make an uncommon political attack from foreign soil.
The outrage over what Pence did… politicizing a non-political meeting with the country’s overseas and in harm’s way troops… was immediate…
Ronald Klain, who worked for Democratic Vice Presidents Al Gore and Joe Biden, said… “None of them would have given a speech like this, abroad, with troops as a prop.”
And… on NBC’s Morning Joe a panel of newscasters and political “experts” had the following conversation…
Joe Scarborough: “The fact that vice president of United States would launch a partisan attack against another party in front of troops overseas is unspeakably bad and is corrosive. The fact that Mike Pence did that after (Sen.) Claire McCaskill (D-MO) tried to get her amendment on the floor to guarantee (service members) that very pay and that Republicans killed it by not allowing that vote makes it even more corrosive.”
Andrea Mitchell: “I can’t recall any precedent for a president or a vice president speaking to U.S. troops, especially overseas, especially forward-based. We were near the Syrian border. These Air Force teams, these men and women, are flying everyday against ISIS in Syria, so I cannot recall another moment like this.”
Richard Haass: “I grew up in an era when politics stopped at the water’s edge. When you went abroad, you spoke with one voice, the idea was to show that the country was one in coming together. This, shall we say, is the opposite. It’s using troops as props and it’s taking our domestic divisions, and essentially it’s broadcasting them to the world. Again, this works against the effectiveness of this country in the Middle East and beyond that.”
Elise Jordan: “I was in President (George W.) Bush’s speech writing office. For these foreign trips, there’s always a lot of speeches that are prepared in advance, but when you’re going to a base, it is an address to the troops. It is not about your politics. It’s about motivating the men and women on the front lines and thanking them for their service. It’s not about you and your political ambitions at the given moment.”
But did anyone catch one teensy weensy issue that maybe ain’t so damn teensy weensy?
Like when Scarborough said… “… (Sen.) Claire McCaskill (D-MO) tried to get her amendment on the floor to guarantee (service members) that very pay and that Republicans killed it by not allowing that vote makes it even more corrosive.”
Yes. Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill stood up for our troops, and Mitch McConnell, the elephant’s senatorial leader of the pack, objected to the amendment and in that moment he, and the rest of the elephant party, stood against the country’s troops. They did what Pence said the donkeys had did… when he lied and told our military men and women in Syria that the donkeys had screwed them out of their pay.
And that should tell you everything you really need to know about whether the elephants really care about the military, or if they are just using them to serve their agenda, as usual.
If, they did care, they would have joined the donkeys in passing the amendment that Senator McCaskill wanted to get passed. The amendment wanting to pay them. Instead, Pence straight faced lied to them.
Pence abandoned his so-called Christian faith… his sworn to moral beliefs… and seriously and most grievously lied… right along with the rest of the elephants in Congress as well as the Trumpty Dumpty White House administration… about who is responsible for the government shutdown.
And, why they would not get paid while the government was closed for business, but they… our men and women who swear to stand in harms way for their country against any enemies be they real or created by the military-industrial oligarchy… still had to keep soldiering on through it all.
Another bill that McCaskill was a part of which you might not of heard about during all this asinine government shutdown business…
The legislation comes from Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), along with Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Ranking Member Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Bob Casey (D-Pa.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Tina Smith (D-Minn.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Jon Tester (D-Mont.)
A McCaskill press release said, “In accordance with the 27th Amendment forbidding Congress from raising or lowering its pay, the No Government No Pay Act of 2018 would take effect during the 116th Congress and would be applied to each new Congress going forward.”
McCaskill also said, “If members of Congress can’t figure this out and keep the government open, then none of us should get paid.”
Heitkamp said… “If members of Congress can’t fulfill their basic duty to keep the government open and provide the essential services Americans depend on, then they don’t deserve their paychecks. Period.”
Tester said… “It’s real simple, if politicians in Washington can’t keep the doors open, they shouldn’t get paid. I am ready and willing to work with anyone to govern responsibly and maybe withholding Congress’ paychecks will bring some folks to the table to responsibly govern.”
Stabenow said… “This bill ensures Members of Congress will not get paid and another bill I have cosponsored makes sure our troops will. Even if these bills do not pass, I will donate my salary for every single day a shutdown occurs.”
Manchin said… “In West Virginia, we know that when you don’t do your job, you don’t get paid. If Congress can’t come together to fulfill one of our most basic constitutional obligations, then we don’t deserve to get paid either.”
I say, fuck, yeah.
Another thousand words…
