Hey there wrestling fans welcome back to the Wrestling Roundtable. This week we will dive into the Mixed Match challenge that will be shown on Facebook. We will also get back into the Royal Rumble. Who will win the WWE Championship match? Also, Is Samoa Joe finished? Find out all this and much more!
1. Braun Strowman
A complete beatdown of Brock Lesnar and Kane at the same time makes Strowman the favorite to win the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble.
2. AJ Styles
The WWE Champion is set to face off against Zayn and Owens at the Royal Rumble. With the deck stacked against him, can he prevail and retain the title?
3. Roman Reigns
The contenders are lining up to face the Big Dog, can anyone defeat Reigns to take the Intercontinental title off of him?
4. The Balor Club
A nice reunion last week and a huge win over the tag team champions and Intercontinental Champion this past week on Raw.
5. The Miz
Hes back and he has made a statement that he wants his title back. Roman Reigns got the message loud and clear.
After failing to win the Intercontinental title in back to back weeks, and being pinned clean by Roman Reigns a couple of weeks ago on Raw, Is Samoa Joe’s WWE push dead?
Steve: Dead? I’m not sure about that, however, I do think that it has at the very least been pushed back. The Miz is back, and he is going to face off against Roman Reigns (more on this in a little bit). Joe should not have been pinned clean over Reigns last week on Raw. I think that hurt him and derailed his run. If you are serious about pushing Joe to the next level, Reigns should have won with some sort of interference, costing him the match, but having Roman save face. Jason Jordan would have been the perfect patsy.
Frosh: For the moment, I think it is (albeit not permanently). Reigns faces off against Miz, but after that, it looks like Balor is lined up for the IC title (a brilliant move if you ask me). IF Lesnar retains, then Joe stays in irrelevant storylines for the forseeable future. I could see feuds with the likes of Cena, or Bray Wyatt, but he is a long way from the title picture.
Chad: That along with his injury histroy already seems to have brought his push to a halt which is a shame because of the talent he can be.
Agree or Disagree: The Miz will win back the Intercontinental Championship at Raw 25?
Steve: I’m going to agree for the sole reason that I think the WWE has bigger plans for Reigns. I don’t think it will be a clean win, as he will have help from the Miztourage. I think Miz wins. and Roman Reigns will go on to WrestleMania to face either Lesnar or Strowman for the title. I don’t see him as the Intercontinental champion going into that.
Frosh: Disagree. Well, let me rephrase, the WWE wants Reigns in the main event of ‘Mania, so he might lose here just to free him up (unless they want him to hold both belts…a possibility), but if I were booking this, Reigns wins, and then goes on to face Balor for the title at ‘Mania, which Balor wins. The guy needs a belt to really cement himself. Reigns does not. Reigns can then go into the main event picture after ‘Mania, to face off against Strowman/Lesnar/Joe/Cena, whoever has the big belt.
Chad: I agree I think Miz winds up with the belt to possibly have a feud with the Miztourage against “The Balor Club”
Agree or Disagree: The Balor Club reunion is the best thing for the characters of Finn Balor, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson?
Steve: Agree! This is huge for all three, Balor, Anderson, and Gallows. Neither had too much going for them, as a matter of fact, we have not really even seen Anderson and Gallows on Raw in quite some time, and Balor was mid-carding it at best. This could be a big push for all three, as they can push for the tag titles, and perhaps the Universal title that Balor never actually lost.
Frosh: Huge agree here. This really elevates Gallows and Anderson back to a true contender, and gives Balor some much needed support. I see tag and IC gold in the future for this group, and the clean win over the “Shield” is proof that the WWE sees a bright future here.
Chad: Absolutely all 3 of them had nothing going and I think something like this that they can all get behind can only help their careers and with Ambrose’s injury the door is open for the 3 man team spot
Will AJ Styles retain the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble? Or will either Owens or Zayn win the title in the handicap match?
Steve: AJ SHOULD retain, I say SHOULD very bluntly because I don’t see either Owens or Zayn entering Mania as the champion. However, you never know what could happen with these storylines. More likely what will happen is that Owens and Zayn will cost one another the pinfall over AJ, they fight with each other and AJ capitalizes and wins the match.
Frosh: I think he should. He needs the title going into ‘Mania. Story and booking wise, it does not make sense to give it to Owens or Zayne, right now. At a later date, like after ‘Mania, absolutely, they can use it and run with it. But going into ‘Mania, you put it on your top guy, and that is Styles. Also, and a bit of fantasy booking here (It will never happen, but if it does, I predicted it right here). If I were HHH or Vince, I would work hard as hell to make this happen, you will create the biggest pop, and have the biggest buzz heading into ‘Mania, that you have ever had, bigger than the Rock/Cena, or Rock Hogan. It has to be complete suprise, no one can know it is coming. Imagine at number 30, the countdown starts, 3, 2, 1 and then “Cult of Personality” music hits, and out comes CM Punk. Punk goes on to win and face AJ Styles at ‘Mania….Wouldn’t that be phenomenal?
Chad: I predict a retention as I think it makes more sense for AJ to be champion going into Wrestlemania instead of the Owens/Zayn feud which I think needs its own Mania match.
What is your take on the upcoming Mixed Challenge matches starting this Tuesday on Facebook?
Steve: If I can steal the pun. I have “Mixed” feelings towards it. I honestly don’t think I will watch too much of it as it is not on the Network, but on Facebook. It is a an interesting concept, but I just don’t know what purpose it serves other than doing something different. This should be done in the summer when nothing really is happening in wrestling. Not during the Road to WrestleMania.
Frosh: It’s not on the network, so I probably won’t watch it. It won’t have any lasting effect on storyline, so it is not important…I just don’t get it….unless they are introducing a new belt? I mean, it is a new and neat concept. I am sure it will get views on Facebook, but it just seems like it would get more traction on the network… Either Miz/Asuka win or Strowman/Bliss win…I cannot see any male getting a win over Strowman, or any female getting a win over Asuka.
Chad: Interesting matchups and a concept. I’m definitely interested to see how it all plays out.
