Some of latest news from here, there and everywhere… and some WTF views on what its really all about…
Who deserves a raise!?
According to a news reports, the senior congressman plans to take a job as president of the Ohio Business Roundtable. The Ohio Business Roundtable is a lobbying group for the state’s biggest businesses and its current president, Richard Stoff, who helped to found the group, plans to retire at the end of the year.
But, that’s not why I brought this issue up.
It makes no nevermind to that some particular conservative politician is going to bed with some big business consortium to lobby for tax breaks or whatever other legislation possible to rook the poor and working classes from whatever meager benefits they somehow have gotten from the prevailing government in power.
I mean it is one less conservative dupe in Congress and hopefully it marks the beginning of one less elephant being in the House whenever their next election is to be held but the reason I brung this up is not for his leaving Congress but for what some other elephant had to say about his leaving Congress.
Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) said “This is a harder life in terms of being away from home and putting up with the pace and the public battering that one sometimes must endure. And no raises in a decade is hard on many members with families.”
Cole really said “And no raises in a decade is hard on many members with families.”
In refence to Tiberi announcing his leaving Congress he had the audacity… hell… the unabashed chutzpah…. the cheeky rat shit balls… to say the fact that Congresspeeps got no raise is hard?
When Congresspeeps do their damn job, and do it responsibly for those being represented… which is supposed to be we the people and not them the rich oligarchs. When they fix this screwed up economy. When they provide people with a living wage. When they give us all real healthcare benefits… Medicare for all.
Then maybe the schmucks will deserve a raise.
But until there is significant movement and the passing of meaningful laws to provide those debts to we the people being paid in full… and not before then… when they do all of that and a lot more, not one damn penny more goes towards Congresspeeps getting a damn fucking raise.
While people are still losing their homes… while some families, children, are going hungry, including service people who need food stamps to feed their families… while ex-service people, who the country seems to have forgot, are suffering from the lack of real jobs or the government providing them meaningful aid and assistance to readjust to civilian life… not to mention the hundreds of thousands of citizens… we the people… who are barely able to make enough so we can live anywhere near a meaningful and fulfilling life… to surviving in this country… not one Congresspeep should even dare to have the unmitigated gall… the balls, or cherries as the case may be… to suggest Congresspeeps should get raises.
And, I mean this with my entire heart and soul…
Every ounce of sincerity I can possibly call upon…
About a week ago, Attorney General Jeff Sessions appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee as part of the ongoing investigation into whether the Trumpty Dumpty people who colluded to get him elected to be the fearless leader of the so-called free world also included Russia in that collusion to further enhance Trumpty’s chances in the 2016 presidential election.
While WTF is sometimes somewhat skeptical about whether this did or did not happen, and if it did, then how much did it really matter and how much will really happen?
Let’s assume it did happen… assume also that there were folks in Trumpty’s election campaign that aided and abetted Russia in the hacking… so?
You really believe this is not… trying to hack into other governments computerized systems or emails for information or intelligence… something every government does, at the minimum every major government involved on the world stage? Trying to corner the market of being in control of who gets to decide where the majority of the money eventually goes in this computerized electronic age?
If, you say you don’t… I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale. Real damn cheap, too.
Now assume that it did.
Tell me what will happen next? In so far as any real consequences? Especially with the elephant controlled Congress now in control of the fractious and somewhat feeble American government such that it is?
It won’t invalidate the election from everything I have read. Not in the least. Trumpty Dumpty will remain in power.
It may cause some folks to get their asses arrested… maybe even put in jail for aiding a foreign power. But, ya know, I really doubt it.
I give anyone actually going to jail about one chance in a million or worse.
Or, the same chance as winding up in jail as the amount of all those who went to prison who brought the US economy to near complete financial ruin by manipulating certain markets in the early 2000’s… which was as far as I know was a grand total of one Wall Street motherfucker being jailed.
So, the long and the short of all this investigation shit is that I think it really doesn’t amount to a hill of beans in the greater scope of things we need to spend money on and try to get accomplished.
But what did capture my attention was an exchange that went between Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar and Sessions that went like this…
Sen. Amy Klobuchar: “Will you commit to not putting reporters in jail for doing their jobs?”
Attorney General Jeff Sessions: Attorney General Jeff Sessions: “Well, I don’t know that I can make a blanket commitment to that effect. But I would say this: We have not taken any aggressive action against the media at this point. But we have matters that involve the most serious national security issues, that put our country at risk, and we will utilize the authorities that we have, legally and constitutionally, if we have to.
Maybe we … we always try to find an alternative way, as you probably know, Sen. Klobuchar, to directly confronting a media person. But that’s not a total, blanket protection.
Understand that because there is no federal shield law that protects journalists from demands to reveal confidential sources, reporters can be subpoenaed to tell legitimate legal officials…courts, FBI, etc… who leaked classified information to them.
Understand a reporter who refuses to comply with a subpoena can be jailed in contempt of court.
So, what’s the problem with what Sessions is saying?
The problem… which was voiced by Klobuchar… is that Trumpty Dumpty and all of Trumpty Dumpty’s men and women and all of Trumpty’s Dumpty’s horse’s asses… aka Trumpty’s lackeys… might not exercise adequate restraint and just go off willy nilly jailing this reporter or that reporter for any little old hint of what he or she wants to call an issue of national security.
Klobuchar in fact voiced that when she said she is “really concerned because of the president’s recent communications about FCC licensing and some of the media content.”
Let’s face it Trumpty has already gone on record as wanting to curtail certain media venues abilities to exercise their First Amendment rights… freedom of the press and freedom of speech.
Donald J. Trump ✔@realDonaldTrump With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!
Early on in his reign as the capo di tutti capi of America’s government he told Fox News: “It’s a very rough system. It’s an archaic system. It’s really a bad thing for the country.”
And then Trumpty’s then White House Chief of Staff… Reince Priebus… doubled down when asked by ABC about Trumpty’s words… that the president is thinking about amending or even abolishing the First Amendment to stifle what they consider to be unfair media criticism.
When asked if the Trumpty Administration was seriously considering a constitutional amendment so that the president can sue his critics, Priebus said: “I think it’s something that we’ve looked at. How that gets executed or whether that goes anywhere is a different story.”
The expressed sentiment says that Trumpty is interested in penalizing news outlets or stifling the rights the press has under the First Amendment not for any violations of laws but for coverage that he considers “partisan, distorted and fake.”
Effectively Trumpty wants to impose a rule of prior restraint or censorship on all media and news sources to tell we the people the news in their own words and opinions.
Therefore, it is not a real big jump to be curious about whether a certain prez… who would consider using his power to limit the Constitutional rights, especially the rights of the First Amendment, of we the people, including our news venues… might abuse the subpoena authority of his Justice Department to hold the threat of jail time over journalists’ heads that he wants to stop from telling what they see as the truth.
Sessions, good company man that he is, didn’t try and make everyone feel all warm and fuzzy about exactly how just and fair the Justice Department will be in handling certain reporters the Trumpty administration feels is being “unfair and fake.”
Just a word or two…
If you are not willing to do everything in your power to speak out whenever anyone… including the present regime in power… from doing as they wish, especially when it comes to restricting your rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution… then be afraid… be very, very, very, very, very afraid.
Because as one of my personal idols… Martin Luther King, Jr… once said…
“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark, and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without sight.”
“He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.”
“History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.”
And maybe most importantly…
“Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal.”
Kafkaesque logic alive and thriving…
First Lt. Will Milzarski served two tours in Afghanistan that left him with a traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder and hearing loss.
The federal government canceled $223,000 in student loan debt after deeming him totally and permanently disabled.
That’s the good news.
The feds did something that was actually good, right and fair-minded.
Not so damn fast.
Now the bad news…
The IRS… part of the federal government… notified Milzarski and said you owe Uncle Sam $62,000 in income taxes.
It’s the tax on the money the feds cancelled from student loans.
Milzarski says, “One part of government says, ‘We recognize your service, we recognize your inability to work; the other branch says, ‘Give us your blood.’ Well, the U.S. Army already took a lot of my blood.”
Michigan State University’s Low-Income Tax Clinic has agreed to take on the issue. Joshua Wease, a law professor from the clinic, says, “If an individual has been deemed disabled and unable to pay their student loans, it seems incredible that they wouldn’t also be deemed unable to pay the taxes on the forgiveness of those same student loans.”
Damn straight. This is a page right out of one of Franz Kafka’s writings… this totally and outrageously illogical.
Or… maybe I’m wrong… maybe it is totally in line with something America is becoming… a state of bureaucratic alienation.
Milzarski has also asked his state and congressional representatives about the sanity of the IRS action and in turn elephant state Senator Rick Jones said he is authoring a bill that would exempt loan forgiveness for wounded vets under state law.
Ummm… could we have someone add an amendment to this bill?
Why not make it so everyone is exempt from having to pay any taxes on loan forgiveness?
If the logic is that there should be no taxes owed on a forgiven loan for a vet who is unable to pay because he is disabled, then why shouldn’t an average Joe who becomes disabled; can’t pay back his loans for school; gets the government to forgive all or part of his loans, be assured that the IRS won’t coming hunting him down for thousands of dollars in taxes, too?
I mean that’s only sensible… right? Or, is that stretching logic a tad too far?
Want another piece of illogical logic?
The bill won’t be of any help to Milzarski because it won’t be retroactive.
Here’s hoping Michigan State University’s Low-Income Tax Clinic is successful in making an argument for a just resolution of this illogical idiocy… and to me, the extremely immoral act by the IRS… the federal government itself… to play mafia loan shark come collecting on a debt.
Stop the presses…
Bill O’Reilly blames God!
Bill O’Reilly has repeatedly blamed reports of sexual misconduct on a politically motivated media.
Now, just last Monday, he is now including blaming God for his egregious miscreant behavior.
On Monday night, O’Reilly defended himself once again on his website with the latest edition of “No Spin News,” which has served as his primary platform since he was ousted at Fox News in April and among other things he said, “You know, am I mad at God? Yeah, I’m mad at him. I wish I had more protection. I wish this stuff didn’t happen. I can’t explain it to you. Yeah, I’m mad at him.”
O’Reilly being Irish Catholic certainly is aware of something called free will.
That as a Catholic he was taught to believe that God has endowed all mankind with free will to make choices. That, if he remembers his lessons from the Catholic catechism and his days at St. Brigid parochial school and Chaminade High School, a private Catholic boys high school, he knows that he was taught that…
Man is rational and therefore like God; he is created with free will and is master over his acts.
Freedom is the power, rooted in reason and will, to act or not to act, to do this or that, and so to perform deliberate actions on one’s own responsibility.
The more one does what is good, the freer one becomes. There is no true freedom except in the service of what is good and just. The choice to disobey and do evil is an abuse of freedom and leads to “the slavery of sin.”
Freedom is exercised in relationships between human beings. Every human person, created in the image of God, has the natural right to be recognized as a free and responsible being. All owe to each other this duty of respect. The right to the exercise of freedom, especially in moral and religious matters, is an inalienable requirement of the dignity of the human person. This right must be recognized and protected by civil authority within the limits of the common good and public order.
Freedom characterizes properly human acts. It makes the human being responsible for acts of which he is the voluntary agent. His deliberate acts properly belong to him.
Extrapolated from this idea of freedom, and of course freewill, is that…
WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR CHOICES!
Therefore Mr. Bill… Stop blaming anyone else for what you fucking damn well did and stop committing blasphemy according to the dictates and rules of your own professed religion.
In short… stop being a damn hypocritical cry baby shedding a bunch of woe is me… poor, poor pitiful me misery.
Another thousand words…
