Ya ever heard the 1% and their businesspeep cronies… say something like… It’s business. It isn’t personal?
Yeah… it’s all about the do re moolah… it’s about the profits… The mega-bucks… the stupid money territory… who owns and controls the most commodities…
Well, maybe if they made it personal then life for millions of folks would be a hell of lot different. Maybe if they shared their profits with their workers… the people who actually enable them to be so damn rich to begin with… then maybe America might be on the path to finally becoming what it alleges that it aspires to… being great. Not being “great, again” but simply, and for the first time in American history, actually approaching being great… as in being a great place to live and raise your family.
Maybe, if these rich SOBs provided their workers… and by extension their families… with real profit sharing… real health care that covers anything and everything… real time off, more vacation time as well time with pay to attend to personal matters (like an illness in the family or the birth of a child)… real wages… real education opportunities for the worker as well as his/her family…
Maybe, if they made it personal the problems that presently besiege the working class; the middle class; those most effected and disadvantaged in America, then they… and America… wouldn’t be in the leaking boats that they all are in.
Maybe, if the 1% made it personal they might share some of the overwhelming wealth that they possess with those that need it the most… by providing funding for programs that benefit and actually helps folks… by providing a safe and burgeoning environment so that people can exist in a world that is conducive to clean and healthy living instead of being in a world that is perilously dangerous to their health and well-being and an obstruction to life.
Maybe, if the obscenely rich gave back to the community… to America… they might find they would be richer than could ever know or realize, and that wherever they would go, or be, they would never, ever have to worry about anything for the rest of their lives.
But, unfortunately them rich bastard capitalists are prone to the greed gene and seem oblivious to all that exists around them and think only about their own personal welfare.
And, thoughts like that don’t ever cross through their grey matter.
They only want so see more profit, more profit, and more profit. They want blood from a stone… as well as the very blood that courses through each and every one of our bodies.
Then, and only then, when there is nothing left to literally squeeze from anything they might approach being somewhat satisfied.
Understand and grok this…
… capitalism is not healthy for children and other living things.
Freedom of speech…
There is this web site/blog… which up til now I never knew it existed… called Ted Rall. In fact, to show you how ignorant I can be sometimes… I didn’t even know who the hell Ted Rall was.
Turns out he is a somewhat famous and established American columnist, editorial cartoonist. It also turns out I actually have seen some of his political cartoons before; I just didn’t realize he was the name behind the artwork.
He is also the political cartoonist at ANewDomain.net, editor-in-chief of SkewedNews.net, a graphic novelist and an occasional war correspondent and the author of the biography “Trump,” that supposedly was published 2016. In addition he is a past president (2008-2009) of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.
From what I can gather, he ranges from being called a conspiracy theory dude to a satirical political cartoonist who muckrakes with the best of them about both sides of the aisle. To say he is controversial is putting it mildly. Personally… since I have just “discovered” him… I have read or viewed little of his work… writings… cartoons. What I have seen or read… I like some of his stuff and I don’t like some of it. It’s like life… an ever changing and evolving thing. Today I may think he is great; tomorrow he shits the bed and the next day… meh.
Any way… there is this web site/blog Ted Rall and it recently posted this…
Not even a Nazi.
I am disturbed by the news that some of the white nationalists who attended the violent “Unite the Right” hatefest in Charlottesville last weekend are being outted on social media. Attendees have been on the receiving end of threats and doxxing. It was reported that a restaurant worker in Berkeley was canned after he was exposed on Twitter.
Needless to say — it ought to be, anyway — I hate Nazis, Klansmen and the like. Their politics and values are exactly the opposite of mine. Still, no one should get fired for parading around with torches like it’s Germany in 1933.
This isn’t a First Amendment issue. Nothing in our outdated constitution prevents an employer from firing you on account of your politics. In 2004 an Alabama company even fired a woman for having a John Kerry for President bumpersticker (sic) on her car.
It is a free speech issue.”
Sorry. I disagree with this.
It’s time we followed certain other countries like Germany, Austria, etc… who have outlawed certain symbols and how they can be used. I am talking about Nazism and other organizations who espouse hatred or genocide or race supremacy and their symbols. And, if I may go so far… and, I damn will may… I seriously would add in symbols of the confederacy. These organizations have symbols that promote nothing but hatred, racism, genocide and white or ethnic supremacy and they have no place in any country where people are yearning to be free.
Sorry. But, not really.
I have no sympathy for Nazis. They murdered… among other atrocities… some of my ancestor’s countrypeople in Poland. The Nazis wanted to exterminate… eradicate from the face of the planet… Jews, Romani (aka Gypsies) and Poles along with other Slavic nationals as well as the physically and mentally handicapped, in order to preserve and maintain the supposed purity and strength of the Aryan race.
I damn well do not want to see their ilk try to do that shit in this country or anywhere else.
Was the confederacy and the Civil War all about economics and the rights of the South to be their own determiners of their ow economic realities? Yes. As far as being about economics? Most definitively, yes.
All wars, all social activity, all things in life are somehow connected through and by economics. It’s all about how stuff… commodities… is produced. About property. About who owns and controls it and how it is sold and brought. And, how it is returned to those who produced it in the terms of money so that people can purchase the stuff… other commodities… from other producers… that they need to exist and subsist.
The problem was that the then 1% that existed in the South at the time essentially enjoyed an almost feudalistic economic system where they were the lord and masters over everything and everyone and used slave labor… a commodity… as part of how they cheaply produced their commodities to eventually be brought to market, sold and would then pocket the profits almost entirely all into their own pockets.
They used Black people as nothing more than tools to cheaply produce commodities so they could enrich their own personal welfare. And, they had no compunctions about simply discarding Black men, women and children if they lost their functionability to effectively and cheaply produce the product they needed to be sold for their profits. They reduced people… especially Black people… to nothing more than being a tool to be used as they required… an inanimate object to be used and abused as they saw fit and then discarded when the “tool” lost its functionability to be useful.
That’s the origin of white American racism against Black folks in a nutshell.
A system that was morally and ethically wrong.
And, the continued adoration and glorification of all things confederate in today’s society is also morally and ethically wrong. Simply put… you do not see symbols of the Nazis anywhere in Germany unless it is being used in the context of education or social and historical studies. You don’t see statues of Hitler, Goebbels or Himmler. You don’t see people parading up and down German streets with the Reichskriegsflagge (National war flag), swastikas or SS runes. Hell, in Germany if you say “Heil Hitler” or “Sig Heil,” especially with a raised hand, you can, and most probably will, be arrested.
It is time we start erasing all symbols of the confederacy… of a racist society … a time when Black people were brought and sold and used up and then discarded as nothing more than tools. Treated like they were drek and worth drek unless they somehow either made their owner money or provided a necessary service. Maybe the confederacy wasn’t advocating all out ethnic cleansing… but… it was damn close.
The bottom line?
It is not an issue of free speech when they… white supremacists, Nazis or people who refuse to let go of their so-called Southern heritage of confederacy and racism… perpetrate hate and/or encourage others to follow suit and hate, too. It is instead the very definition of what a hate crime is.
In America the modern era of hate-crime legislation began in 1968 with the passage of the Civil Rights Act and federal statute, 18 U.S. 245, of that law which made it illegal to “by force or by threat of force, injure, intimidate, or interfere with anyone who is engaged in six specified protected activities, by reason of their race, color, religion or national origin.”
See the words “or threat of force”?
A threat is and/or can be verbal (“I am going to kill you, (insert your racist term”) or physical (wearing body armor and carrying weapons while shouting stuff like “Sig Heil! Death to (insert ethnic group.”)
All actions that were done by the racists, bastards, political whores… the Nazi and confederacy loving white supremacists in Charlottesville.
Deep breath… exhale…
Acts which could be considered as hate crimes in various states include aggravated assault, assault and battery, vandalism, rape, threats and intimidation, arson, trespassing…
See threats? Intimidation?
The things I said above regarding violations of the Civil Rights Act and federal statute 18 U.S. 245? It goes here, too.
Other countries have laws that deal with this shit. And in a more definitive manner sometimes.
In Finland, ethnic agitation is against the law and the prosecution does not have to prove that an actual danger to a group is caused but only that a malicious message is conveyed.
That message can be verbal, or otherwise… like by computer, letter or publications.
Volksverhetzung is a concept in German criminal law that refers to incitement to hatred against segments of the population and refers to calls for violent or arbitrary measures against them, including assaults against the human dignity of others by insulting, maliciously maligning, or defaming segments of the population. It is can be translated into English various ways, including… “incitement of the masses”, “instigation of the people” or “incitement to hatred”
Specifically, Section 1 of the Criminal Code says…
Whosoever, in a manner capable of disturbing the public peace:
- incites hatred against a national, racial, religious group or a group defined by their ethnic origins, against segments of the population or individuals because of their belonging to one of the aforementioned groups or segments of the population or calls for violent or arbitrary measures against them; or
- assaults the human dignity of others by insulting, maliciously maligning an aforementioned group, segments of the population or individuals because of their belonging to one of the aforementioned groups or segments of the population, or defaming segments of the population,
shall be liable to imprisonment from three months to five years
That’s damn clear.
You can’t insult and assault the human dignity of someone through racial, ethnic or in an otherwise discriminatory manner and get away with it. At least that’s what the German law itself states.
In Canada. Hate speech is not allowed…
Public incitement of hatred
- 319 (1) Everyone who, by communicating statements in any public place, incites hatred against any identifiable group where such incitement is likely to lead to a breach of the peace is guilty of
- (a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or
- (b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.
(2) Everyone who, by communicating statements, other than in private conversation, willfully promotes hatred against any identifiable group is guilty of
(a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or
(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.
Iceland’s laws say, “Anyone who in a ridiculing, slanderous, insulting, threatening or any other manner publicly abuses a person or a group of people on the basis of their nationality, skin colour, race, religion or sexual orientation, shall be fined or jailed for up to two years.”
Again… ridiculing, insulting or any other manner where someone publicly abuses a person based upon race religion, sexual orientation… these are specifically referencing verbal assault.
Austria strictly prohibits the public display and/or proliferation of all insignia/symbols, emblems, uniforms (full or partial), flags, etc., clearly associated with the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP, or the Nazi Party)
In France, it is illegal to display Nazi flags, uniforms and insignia in public, unless for the purpose of a historical film, show or spectacle
Germany strictly prohibits public display of Nazi symbols, such as the swastika and the SS logo, unless it is for historical purposes.
Section 335 of the Act C of 2012 on the Criminal Code of Hungary regulates the “use of symbols of totalitarianism”, including the swastika, the insignia of the SS, the arrow cross, the hammer and sickle, and the five-pointed red star.
Anyone, but me, see something incongruous here with the way our Constitution is protecting the right of people to spread… in a deleterious and malicious manner… despicable racist, sexist asinine hatred that has no place in the world at all?
This isn’t a theory about the earth being flat… inoculations being bad for people… schools being poor educators of children… or dinosaurs never having existed… or that the world has only been around for 5,000 years…
Yeah, in my opinion all of those things are based upon stupidity but they don’t advocate the killing of… the annihilation of… people. Well, a fair amount of time those people with those views don’t advocate killing or threatening people in a racist or ethnically biased way. But, all too often they may.
Folks displaying Nazi symbols or white supremacists saying they are protected to speak hateful words and jingoist slogans to Blacks, LGBT, Jews Catholics, etc… is inherently wrong and actually not fucking protected by the first amendment or any other of a slew of laws that have since been enacted on a federal and state governmental level.
Hatred and calling for the annihilation of whole groups of people based on ethnicity is wrong, immoral and should be forbidden in any way, shape, manner or form.
No one has the “right”… civil, protected or otherwise… to advocate for the elimination or enslavement of a people based on ethnicity or any other category. It’s wrong.
It’s un-American. It’s immoral.
It’s against any damn decent religion or philosophy.
It needs to stop now.
It needs to be condemned.
We do not need to, nor be forced to, go against what many of us… and I sincerely hope is a significant majority… feel and know in our heart of hearts is wrong to do. Protect vile vicious, racist and hate mongers that would kill you in a New York second given the chance. Animals who are so viciously and racistly hateful that they would do that, given the chance, deserve no freedom whatsoever. They have abdicated their right by unfulfilling, or being unwilling, to do their duty under the social contract that should bind us all and they violate every principle of the Bill of Rights of humanity… simply.. of being a caring human being. Therefore, they cede any protections under those listed rights that are afforded to all Americans and her guests. They need to be driven out like St. Patrick supposedly drove the snakes out fo Ireland.
I ain’t saying death to all Nazis, white supremacist and people who still stupidly believe the confederacy was a legitimate American government, but I am saying they should not have the right to advocate for people like myself and most of my friends and acquaintances to be “replaced.” If they do, then they need to suffer serious repercussions and consequences.
I got news for these assholes… they are an anachronistic remainder from a past that is slowly (unfortunately not faster) disappearing in the rearview mirror of life. What they profess, and what they shout and parade around, is an evil that must be extinguished, expunged in all societies. No one should have the freedom to spout out racist, ethnic, religious or any other form of hate in any public space in the world… not just the US, but the whole damn fucking world.
What they do and say is a hate crime. It is not a right that is, or should be, protected by the First Amendment. It is not free speech; it is the calling for the elimination of any person they believe to be unclean, unpure and not worthy of being part of their white ruling social order.
What you saw in Charlottesville was some semblance of humanity whose brains were fried with and on hate.
The light bulb just went on!
Trumpty Dumpty, not that long ago, said some shit about the pissing contest between himself as the supreme leader of America and Kim Jong-un, the supreme leader of North Korea…
“If they do not now accept our terms, they may expect a rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this Earth.”
Those weren’t the words. Trumpty’s words.
Who said those words?
Try Harry Truman.
August 6, 1945, hours after he authorized the atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima.
“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen… they will be met with fire, fury and, frankly, power, the likes of which this world has never seen before.”
So, exactly what type of “fire, fury and, frankly, power, the likes of which this world has never seen before” is Trumpty Dumpty going to be dropping on North Korea?
Worse than what Truman authorized against Japan? Than Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
Trumpty wants to commit mass murder… genocide… on a nationwide level in one fell swoop?
Trumpty is placing American citizens in extremely very dire straits… he is threatening our national security and that should be grounds for impeachment.
Too bad the elephants don’t give a fuck.
This exact reality … the use of nuclear weapons, the madmen against the world dick comparison exhibition Trumpty And Kim are having… was discussed on Democracy Now! relatively recently between the show’s moderator, Amy Goodman, and award-winning investigative journalist Allan Nairn, who himself spends a lot of time in Southeast Asia and has written extensively about the situations throughout that region.
But, the discussion went beyond just Trumpty, missiles and North Korea…. it became a conversation on the Trumptonian agenda and what may possibly be his overall goal of “making America great again” and how he intends to achieve that goal.
Then Charlottesville happened.
And, Trumpty responded stupidly about “both sides” having some degree of responsibility for the bull shit that went down… instead of coming out and condemning… hell outright damning… the white supremacists who paraded their hate, and specifically the one white supremacist son of a female dog who drove his car through a crowd of counter protestors, injuring many and murdering one woman.
As I ran through my brain what he had said… the context of what he had said… and saw the gazillion posts on Facebook (OK. I exaggerate. But it was a lot; it swallowed my Facebook page for over a day.) that condemned him for being an ignorant slut for saying what he said and then thinking about the Democracy Now! show…
And it was a million lumens blazing bright as it totally illuminated my mind.
And, I finally grokked what Trumpty means by saying “Make America Great, again.”
Let me skip through all the gist of all North Korean stuff …a lot of the missiles stuff… the nukes stuff… right to where Nairn is responding to something Senator Lindsay Graham said about using nuclear weapons as an option to resolve certain international problems and a conversation where he (Graham) spoke with Trumpty who he says Trump told him directly that nuclear weapons could be viable and real option, if he (Trumpty) felt the situation or circumstances warranted it….
“Allan Nairn: Yeah, well, given Trump’s comments yesterday, it sounds like Graham was quoting Trump accurately. You know, recently, even Mother Jones ran a column asking, “Well, why shouldn’t the U.S. do multiple nuclear strikes on North Korea?” During the campaign, Trump talked about nuclear weapons for South Korea and Japan and said, “Well, if there’s a North Korea-Japan war, go for it. Have at it.”
And also, this is not something that Trump just stumbled upon. There are really only three substantive issues that Trump has been engaged with throughout his career. One is trade. One is racism. He’s for it. He campaigned for the execution of the Central Park Five, who were innocent. But also nuclear weapons. During the Reagan administration, Trump tried to get appointed as a U.S. special envoy to negotiate a nuclear weapons deal with the Soviet Union. He’s been thinking about this for decades.”
When Nairn is asked about Trumpty’s new chief of staff… Trumpty’s former US Secretary of Homeland Security as well as a former four star general in the US Marine Corps John Kelly and the influence, stability and direction Kelly could bring to the Trumptonian administration…
“Nairn: Yeah. I certainly hope not, because this is a rightist revolution that is underway. They have—most governments, most new administrations that come in, follow the judicial principle of stare decisis. You accept precedent. You accept what’s already—most of what’s already in place. Not this group, not Trump and the Republicans, who now control all branches of U.S. government. They are a rollback administration. Their agenda is to roll back essentially all popular achievements that happened not just during the Obama years, but also back to Franklin Roosevelt and even Teddy Roosevelt. And on the racial justice and civil rights front, what they’re looking at is a rollback dating back to pre-Reconstruction, because, in principle—and you look at the statements of someone like Sessions over the years, someone like Bannon—they are looking to eliminate anything in law or regulations that specifically acknowledges rights for African Americans. So they’re out to do a massive project of dismantling. It’s a revolutionary movement. It hasn’t gotten nearly as far as it could, because of Trump’s incompetence. But if Kelly succeeds in making it efficient, God help us all.”
Goodman then brings up the fact that the day this how took place it was “the 72nd anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Nagasaki that killed 74,000 people. That also came just three days after the U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing over… 140,000 people. And she then plays the Truman quote referenced earlier… “If they do not now accept our terms, they may expect a rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this Earth.”
Goodman asks Nairn for his reaction and opinion.
During his reply he gets to the gist of what Trumpty is really all about…
Nairn: “… it goes back to the point that this is a rollback administration we have. Since Truman spoke, in the years since then, due to pressure from peace and human rights activists, some U.S. standards in foreign policy have changed a little bit. There have some—been some constraints placed on the military, the CIA. Trump is seeking to eliminate those. Since he’s been in, civilian casualties as a result of U.S. airstrikes in Syria and Iraq have multiplied fourfold. He’s basically told the commanders, “Do what you will.” He’s rolling back—trying to roll back U.S. foreign policy to—regarding violence, to where it stood many decades before, even back to the years of Teddy Roosevelt. When Teddy Roosevelt used to speak about the glory of war, the glory of violence and killing, and how that was essential to both the national character and personal character, that’s the kind of thing Trump is evoking today.”
Trumpty spoke and what many people… including politicians on both sides of the aisle… heard and saw was Trump spouting racist supporting bullshit…
I flashed back to what Nairn said on Democracy Now!
The million lumen light bulb went off…
The reality of Trumpty’s “Make America great, again” slogan is to restore America to a time when white supremacists ruled the country with virtual impunity…
… especially in the South…
When the very white, the very WASP, 1% of the time had centralized and controlled the wealth and most of the people in America were under their filthy, rotten, greedy ass thumbs.
To a time and reality that existed… that thrived… just before the Civil War was fought.
That’s the “great” time period Trumpty and his cronies want to make America return to…
… that’s the “great” they aspire to.
Another thousand words…
