Hey there wrestling fans, welcome again to the Wrestling Roundtable. We are about to enter the Sweet 16 of our Womens Tournament. Are all the #1 seeds still left? Also we are going to discuss New Ring of Honor Champion Cody Rhodes, as well as Jason Jordan being named as Kurt Angle’s son. All this and much more!
The WWE Champion is set to defend his championship in a punjabi prison match. Will he continue to have the Viper’s number and retain the championship?
2. Braun Strowman
Not even a near death experience can keep Braun Strowman away. Braun may be well on his way to a Universal Championship match in the near future. Roman, Joe, and Brock better watch out.
3. AJ Styles
The United States Champion looks to continue his winning ways as he is set to defend his US title against Kevin Owens.
4. Roman Reigns
He is back in the championship picture again, but can the former three time WWE Champion, claim his first Universal Championship gold soon? Only time will tell.
5. Samoa Joe
Joe may have picked the wrong guy to mess with in Braun Strowman, but he has shown no fear against Lesnar, why should Braun be any different?
With a Nilsen rating of 15.2 and a viewership of over 33 million, the rematch between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant broke records and still holds the record for the most watched wrestling match in North America to date.
After losing to Hogan at Wrestlemania III, Andre the Giant defeated Hulk Hogan in a match that lasted barely over 9 minutes. The match started in Hogan’s favor and he managed to pin The Giant after a leg drop by the referee was distracted by wrestler Virgil. While arguing with the referee The Giant attacked Hulk Hogan from behind and pinned him for the win. The pin wasn’t correct as Hulk Hogan’s arm was up in the air.
It was later revealed that Ted Dibiase hired the referee’s (Dave Hebner) twin brother to fix the match in order for The Giant to win and surrender the title to him. This was against WWE’s rules so the title was vacated after this incident.
Here is the updated Bracket for the Womens Tournament

Cody Rhodes recently won the Ring of Honor World Championship, giving him his first World Championship of his career, and making history as being one of just a select few father son duos to win a World Championship in wrestling. While ROH is technically an independent circuit, it is still widely known around the World. Will Cody’s success in ROH propel him back to the WWE someday?
Steve: I don’t think so. I can’t see him back in the WWE, because he likes control of his character. He is finding out that sometimes it is good to be the big fish in a small pond. He is wrestling for multiple organizations, and is gaining a huge following not only in the United States, but all over the World. I just don’t think he goes back to the WWE where they made him dawn a foolish costume and when he wanted out of that, they basically said he can walk, and he did.
Frosh: By the time he gets back to WWE, he will be at an advanced age (in wrestling terms), and may win a WWE world title, similar to AJ styles (although he does not have the same level of talent Styles does.), but do not expect him to be the face of the business or have an extended run. He had an opportunity, and became Stardust.
Chad: I think eventually he goes back but right now being the ROH World Champion, having a shot at the New Japan Belt , being in the hottest thing in wrestling the Bullet Club he’s probably having the time of his career right now and wouldn’t be in a hurry to get back.
Tyler: Well, you can argue at ROH is the number two promotion in the US, but it’s still a great achievement for Cody and his family. While it’s possible he may make his way back to WWE, between his ROH and NJPW commitments, it won’t be for awhile if it does happen.
With Jason Jordan being revealed as Kurt Angle’s son, will this propel Jason Jordan’s singles career, and will he be a singles champion within his first year as a singles competitor?
Steve: I could see Angle trying to push him into championship matches, and others saying he is playing favorites. I could see Jordan eventually turning on Angle and becoming a heel, while Angle is the face. Then Angle just reminds him over and over again that he won an Olympic gold medal with a broken freakin neck. As far as winning a title in his first year? I see him getting opportunities, but I don’t see that he is ready yet.
Frosh: Stupid illegitimate son angle….at least it wasn’t hornswoggle, although Hornswoggle had more charisma than Jordan does. If WWE wants to waste a talent like Angle on a lazy story like this (Seriously, there is NO OTHER WAY to get Jason Jordan to be relevant? Like, oh, I don’t know, be in a tag team with Chad Gable and win a few more tag belts?) anyways, if they are going to waste Angle on this, it better pay off. Jordan needs the IC belt within 3 months. Have Miz wrap up with Ambrose and Rollins, and move on to a feud with Jordan.
Chad: I think that is the plan but I just don’t see him as a Singles champ that quick the problem too many other tag teams have split up in 2017; I mean are they looking at Cass vs Jordan for the IC belt down the road
Tyler: UHGH. No fuckin’ comment.
Now that Braun Strowman interfered in the Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe match, are we destined to see a Fatal Four Way match for the Universal Championship at Summerslam?
Steve: Probably. I mean it is pretty predictable on what they are trying to do. Just as long as they get the belt on Lesnar, I honestly don’t care who wins the title. Unless Brock is going to stay on full time.
Frosh: It seems that way. It is a legit way to get the title off of Lesnar, as I do not see WWE wanting either Lesnar or Strowman to take a loss, which means Joe will probably be the sacrificial lamb to Reigns….sigh……such a waste.
Chad: It is an absolute certainity in my mind at this point and it makes to group them together on a larger cross-branded show like Summerslam.
Tyler: Either that or a three way match between Reigns, Joe, and Strowman.
We have given our bold predictions before special events in the past, but we are going to change it up a bit. On a scale of 1 to 10 with ten being the most; What is your excitement level for Battleground?
Steve: 2. I don’t have much interest in the show as of now. The AJ vs Owens match should be a good one, and I have some interest in the Womens match. However, I have no desire to see Mahal vs Orton in a bamboo structure known as the Punjabi Prison.
Frosh: Umm…probably a 7. I am not super-excited, but the Punjabi Prison match is intriguing, although I am pretty sure Jinder will win. The tag match will entertain, and might be suprisingly a show stealer. We will get to see if WWE is really taking Nakamura/Corbin seriously. Also, in what will likely be far more dramatic and better storytelling that the Illegitimate child angle from Raw, we will FINALLY find out who has been messing with the Fashion Police! YES! YES! YES!
Chad: I’d say a 3 just because I want to see how the Punjabi Prison Match takes shape and Owens/Styles.
Tyler: 5 at the most.
EDITORS NOTE (Dynamite drop in Tyler, that broadcast school has really paid off)
Agree or Disagree: The Booking of Lana thus far has been piss poor?
Steve: Strongly Agree here. I like Lana, she is a very attractive woman, and she was very over with the fans when she just just the valet for Rusev. Separating them hurt them both, and now she is prancing around like she is on Dancing with the Stars or something just has no place for wrestling. Not to mention her lack of wrestling talent is nothing to get excited about.
Frosh: Well that depends….Do you think Lana should have won the Smackdown Women’s Championship? If you do, then yes. If you do not, then no. I think most are in one of two camps, either “WE WANT LANA!” or you treat her as a blonde version of Eva Marie, who got to where she is by her looks, no matter the lack of talent. The matches with Naomi showed some GLARING gaps in her in-ring capabilities. Do I think she can eventually be something? Absolutely! Remember, Trish Stratus was a fitness model before she became one of, if not the greatest woman wrestler of all time. But Trish put in A LOT of work. It is up to Lana to do the same.
Chad: Well, trying to book a non-wrestler as a title contender is not the easiest job.
Tyler: I don’t have a problem with it, actually. She hasn’t bee an active competitor that long, so her winning the title right away wouldn’t make any sense.
