What was the issue?
I have had my disagreements with our past prez, the Bamster… still do. He was, in many ways, in the pockets of the billionaires just like so many presidents that came before him. And, in many ways, he continued the neoliberalism popularized by Wee Willie Clinton. And, I believe he has helped edge America along into a burgeoning age of neofeudalism.
One of his worst transgressions was that he bailed out the damn banks but not the working and middle class people who lost their homes and saw their financial savings slip, slide right down the toilet as they tried keeping their necks above water… but failed because their government failed them.
He fought unnecessary wars… he authorized the killing of way too many citizens of other countries simply because he said that America needed to stop terrorists or to send a message to those enemies of America.
But, I have a hard time comprehending people when they say he was an embarrassment to them, but now with Trumpty Dumpty in office they aren’t embarrassed any longer
Yeah, I’m talking about mostly white folk here…
I could go over a whole litany of why these words that state such an idea make me cringe but I won’t… instead I will quote Pastor John Pavlovitz, a minister at North Raleigh Community Church in Wake Forest, North Carolina, who expresses many so-called left leaning ideas in his blog, “Stuff That Needs To Be Said”, who wrote and posted an open letter to those white Trump voters, informing them that… no, they were not embarrassed by their former president. Not in the least. Rather it was something else that they needed to face… something that they really should be real fucking red-faced about…
So, you were embarrassed for the past 8 years, huh?
What exactly were you embarrassed by?
Were you embarrassed by the way he lovingly and sweetly parented and protected his daughters?
Were you embarrassed by his Columbia University degree in Political Science or his graduating magna cum laude from Harvard Law School?
Maybe you were embarrassed by his white American and Black Kenyan parents, or the diversity he was raised in as normal?
Were you embarrassed by his eloquence, his quick wit, his easy humor, his seeming comfort meeting with both world leaders and street cleaners; by his bright smile or his sense of empathy or his steadiness—perhaps by his lack of personal scandals or verbal gaffes or impulsive tirades?
No. Of course you weren’t.
Honestly, I don’t believe you were ever embarrassed. That word implies an association that brings ridicule, one that makes you ashamed by association, and ifthat’s something you claim to have experienced over the past eight years by having Barack Obama representing you in the world—I’m going to suggest you rethink your word choice.
You weren’t “embarrassed” by Barack Obama.
You were threatened by him.
You were offended by him.
You were challenged by him.
You were enraged by him.
But I don’t believe it had anything to do with his resume or his experience or his character or his conduct in office—because you seem fully proud right now to be associated with a three-time married, serial adulterer and confessed predator; a man whose election and business dealings and relationships are riddled with controversy and malfeasance. You’re perfectly fine being represented by a bullying, obnoxious, genitalia-grabbing, Tweet-ranting, Prime Minister-shoving charlatan who’s managed to offended all our allies in a few short months. And you’re okay with him putting on religious faith like a rented, dusty, ill-fitting tuxedo and immediately tossing it in the garbage when he’s finished with it.
None of that you’re embarrassed of? I wonder how that works.
Actually, I’m afraid I have an idea. I hope I’m wrong.
Listen, you’re perfectly within your rights to have disagreed with Barack Obama’s policies or to have taken issue with his tactics. No one’s claiming he was a flawless politician or a perfect human being. But somehow, I don’t think that’s what we’re talking about here. I think the thing President Obama did that really upset you, white friend—was having a complexion that was far darker than you were ever comfortable with. I think the President we have now feels much better.
Because objectively speaking, if what’s happening in our country right now doesn’t cause you great shame and doesn’t induce the continual meeting of your palm to your face—I don’t believe embarrassment is ever something you struggle with.
No, if you claimed to be “embarrassed” by Barack Obama but you’re not embarrassed by Donald Trump—I’m going to strongly suggest it was largely a pigmentation issue.
And as an American and a Christian committed to diversity and equality and to the liberty at the heart of this nation—that, embarrasses me.
Now I am not a member of any faith… nor do I believe in a Christina version of god. My concept of god is so far from most people’s conception of who or what god is… especially those who profess a belief in a Christian supreme deity… that it hard for me to to put into words they would or could understand. So, just believe me… my idea of what god is, is not most peoples idea of what the supreme being is. I wouldn’t say its overly deep or even heavily philosophical, rather its just very personal and unique to the person that I am and how I see myself in his world… this universe.
BUT… sometimes there come a confluence of people’s minds where our ideas and thoughts became entwined and in agreement… regardless of social , political, economic, philosophical, and yes, even religious affiliation.
This is one of those times.
Reverend Martin Luther King Jr is a hero of mine… not for any of his religious beliefs but he is primarily because of what he stood and fought for. Another person I have an admiration for is Malcolm X… a devoted Muslim… not for his Muslim faith but for what he struggled with and fought against and gave his live for… for how he progressed through his life and how he was on the precipice of becoming a true and very wonderful spokesperson for all people’s human rights.
And, now, maybe Pastor John just joined those ranks… because although I have my problems with the legacy of the Bamster presidency, I do not have a problem with him being Black. In addition, I think he was someone who left the office of president of the United with at least trying to do some good. It wasn’t perfect, and it needs to be replaced with something better, but just for an example… the Affordable Care Act… it left America in better shape health wise when he left office than when he came into office.
For all his faults… and like all men and women he has had, and still does have, many… he was at least a man of some semblance and degree of integrity and understanding and compassion. Words that somehow are foreign to the present resident in the white house on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC.
Trumpty Dumpty’s and his Kickapoo Joy Juice road show…
Trumpty Dumpty took his traveling medicine show on the road to Europe and made a stop in Poland.
Why Poland? Well probably because the Polish President… Andrzej Duda… kinda, sorta told him the peanut gallery at a joint appearance they would make together would be stacked with a loud and very partisan crowd. And, because similar to Trumpty, Duda is not exactly on friendly terms with many, if not most, of his country’s media outlets. In fact, although he is listed as an independent, he is usually associated, or aligned, with the very right wing nationalist Law and Justice party. After the Law and Justice party won a decisive electoral victory in 2105, Duda signed a media law that gave the government power to take political control of state media outlets. The result being that many Liberal media outlets have been censored in what they can and cannot present to the Polish people as an alternative opinion.
Or as Trumpty said during one point of the address he gave to his partisan crowd… “(America’s media) have been fake news for a long time, and they have been covering me in a dishonest way…” He then turned towards Duda and continued… “We don’t want fake news.”
In his own way… just like Trump won his presidency with his “Make America Great, Again” slogan, Duda could have very well have campaigned on a “Make Poland Great, Again” slogan.
Let’s just say their political leanings are muy simpático.
With a trumped up audience, Trumpty had his bully pulpit and used it to royally spew his prejudicial and racist venom as he said, “The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive. Do we have the confidence in our values to defend them at any cost? Do we have enough respect for our citizens to protect our borders? Do we have the desire and the courage to preserve our civilization in the face of those who would subvert and destroy it?” In his speech, he raged that the west faced serious and dire challenges in the effort to “defend our civilization” from terrorism, bureaucracy and the erosion of traditions.
Then, in a nod to his Polish “friends”, he said, “Americans, Poles, and the nations of Europe value individual freedom and sovereignty. We must work together to counter forces, whether they come from inside or out, from the south or the east, that threaten over time to undermine these values and to erase the bonds of culture, faith and tradition that make us who we are.”
So… now it’s us against them, eh? Now it’s the West vs what? The East? I reckon…
Christianity against Muslims. Fuck any other faith… it’s just the Christians vs the Muslims… gotta stop them bastards from breeching our sacred western walls and raping and pillaging our western culture. Protect the women and children from them damn heathen false god believing murderous anti-Christians.
Every time this racist, misogynistic bastard, old rich fool opens his mouth… I grit my teeth… then sigh… then just shake my head.
When I hear words like these I am undermined that the struggle is far from over… and lyrics from 2 songs always seem to come to mind…
“How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand
Yes, ‘n’ how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they’re forever banned
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind”
From Dylan’s “Blowing in the Wind”
… and You’ve long been on the open road
You’ve been sleepin in the rain
From the dirt of words and mud of cell
Your clothes are smeared and stained
But the dirty words and muddy cells
Will soon be judged insane
So only stop and rest yourself
Till you are off again
So take off your thirsty boots
And stay for a while
Your feet are hot and weary
From a dusty mile
And maybe I can make you laugh
And maybe I can try
I’m just lookin’ for the evening
And the morning in your eyes
But tell me of the ones you saw
As far as you could see
Across the plain from field to town
Marching to be free
And of the rusted prison gates
That tumbled by degree
Like laughing children one by one
Who looked like you and me
From Eric Anderson’s “Thirsty Boots”…
Maybe someday soon it will come that we can all take off our thirsty boots and stay for a while and finally be free from all sorts of prejudice, bias, bigotry and lies…
I will… however… continue to contribute however and wherever I can in the constant struggle to combat the bullshit words and actions of people like Trumpty and his cronies who try to divide us so that the billionaire corporatists can institute their final solution of bringing us… the world… into a new age of neofeudalism.
Just a warning… don’t drink the Kickapoo Joy Juice… (or take the purple acid)… its kinda like the koolaid ya’ll always hear about but a hell of lot more sneaky and a lot more fuck ya in your ass bad.
Keeping it short this week… life and work are interfering with my writing time… but before I say adieu… adios… hasta la vista, baby… I want to leave you with this…
In line for the “Dumbass of the Year Award”…
As one of the teens threw what was described as a fireworks mortar towards the cops, the other teen yelled, “Get the fuck off my block!”
The three officers were not injured as the huge incendiary device “harmlessly” went off. It did, however, cause damage to an NYPD patrol car.
Cops searched the area for the teens, but to no avail.
If, anybody is going to go around throwing huge incendiary devices… we ain’t’ talking little lady finger one inch backyard firecrackers here we are talking small bomb… then they best be ready to assume the repercussions and the ultimate consequences of those actions… which could be… the damn cops just might pull out their weapons… very justifiably I might add… and blow some idjit asses to kingdom come… or… they’all might get lucky and only have their idjit asses tossed into a cell for a spell… albeit maybe with a few lumps and bruises.
Another thousand words…
