Time to understand some truths about U.S. @ WTF 6/7

From Democracy Now! September 3rd, 2007…

Lawrence Ferlinghetti: You know, I’d like to read one poem that I just wrote. I really want to get this out.

Amy Goodman: Read.

Lawrence Ferlinghetti: Especially since Khalil Gibran has been in the news lately, including yesterday or the day before on your program…

“Pity the Nation,” after Khalil Gibran.

Pity the nation whose people are sheep,
and whose shepherds mislead them.
Pity the nation whose leaders are liars, whose sages are silenced,
and whose bigots haunt the airwaves.
Pity the nation that raises not its voice,
except to praise conquerors and acclaim the bully as hero
and aims to rule the world with force and by torture.
Pity the nation that knows no other language but its own
and no other culture but its own.
Pity the nation whose breath is money
and sleeps the sleep of the too well fed.
Pity the nation — oh, pity the people who allow their rights to erode
and their freedoms to be washed away.
My country, tears of thee, sweet land of liberty.

Amy Goodman: Lawrence Ferlinghetti. So, what about the state of the world today and our role in it?

Lawrence Ferlinghetti: It’s rushing over the cliff.

American History 101… the reality

We need to start teaching our children real American History… demanding that our school systems teach our children the truth about America’s history instead of the vanilla (in more ways than one) scrubbed squeaky clean version we presently allow to be taught in our schools.

We can start with the history of what the Europeans who came over to America did to those who were living here already… the Native Americans… the fact that they began the killing of millions of Native Americans through war, murderous raids where women and children were slaughtered and forced marches before imprisoning them into concentration camps… I mean “reservations” …  where inhuman living conditions… poorly built living quarters, meager and infested food and water rations, threadbare, worn-out clothing and disease ladened blankets… were the norm.

The genocide of Native Americans… or… the American Indian Holocaust…  was a systematic and a deliberate mass destruction of Native American populations that occurred after the Europeans arrived. Revisionists of this part of American history… or those who report history using alternate facts… paint the millions of deaths as either deaths attributed to war wartime or deaths due to the fact that the Native Americans died because their biological systems were unable to adapt to fight off diseases (smallpox, etc…) that the Europeans brought over with them.

The facts…. the truth… tell a different story…

Yes … when Europeans first landed upon America’s shores they did introduce various illnesses that did immeasurable damage to the indigenous population… so drastically that some historians have called it one of the worst plagues in human history, and that it may have devastated the indigenous population to the same percentages that perished in Europe during the Black Plague in the 1300s… which have been estimated as being between 30% to 60% of the European population.

But, it was the actions of the Europeans, and then those that eventually came to be Americans, that followed that event who began America’s walk down the slippery slope of the almost total elimination of the Native Americans that were still in existence. Even if, the estimates of how many people were living in America before Columbus was to be middled between the most popular guesses that still puts the number of people in America at that time to be about 9 million or thereabouts. Assume that the “New World Plague” took about 40% of those numbers… that leaves the Native American population at about 5.4 million. The white Europeans and their progeny that followed killed off, through the various previously noted ways and methods, another 95%-plus of the Native population of the New World, or what is now United States. By 1800, the American Indian population had declined to about 600,000, and by 1890 it was about 250,000.

The refinement of the American government’s very purposeful program to eliminate the American Indians was begun in earnest in 1830 when Congress passed the Indian Removal Act. This act legitimatized a full-scale attack upon Native Americans as it authorized the government to relocate them from their homelands to lands west of the Mississippi River purely for no other reason than to accommodate European-American expansion. In effect, it began the almost total elimination of the indigenous people of America by first forcing them on death marches to lands that were foreign and alien to their nature and lifestyles, and then, very barren and mostly ill-suited for anyone to try and eke a subsistence from.

Our children need to know this part of American history… as well as a lot more of American history… that is a tad on the dark, sinister, nasty side and ain’t all that apple pie, mom and baseball.

As the man once said… one of his few moments of lucid truthfulness… “You think our country is so innocent?

What was done to the Native Americans is very comparable to another era that almost every American is aware… the time of Nazi Germany.

In  April 2017,  a piece presented by Indian Country Media Network (ICMN) ICMN called Ugly Precursor to Auschwitz: Hitler Said to Have Been Inspired by U.S. Indian Reservation System says that “Hitler… was incontrovertibly one of the world’s most brutal and bloodthirsty bastards to ever walk the globe. Yet, little is it known that he was also a plagiarist.”

Th author of that article is Simon Moya-Smith.

Left, Nazis stand before a mass grave of victims of the Jewish Holocaust; right: U.S. soldiers pose for a picture near a mass grave of dead Lakotas following the Wounded Knee Massacre of December 29, 1890.

Moya-Smith explains why he wrote that sentence by stating, “… the Pulitzer-Prize winning biographer John Toland wrote that Hitler was inspired in part by the Indian reservation system … a creation of the United States.”

Further quoting Toland from his book, “Adolf Hitler: The Definitive Biography”, Moya-Smith writes…  “Hitler’s concept of concentration camps as well as the practicality of genocide owed much, so he claimed, to his studies of English and United States history. He admired the camps for Boer prisoners in South Africa and for the Indians in the wild west; and often praised to his inner circle the efficiency of America’s extermination … by starvation and uneven combat …of the red savages who could not be tamed by captivity.”

Moya-Smith then avers, “… it is not in the best national interest of the U.S. to recognize such a realization as presented by Toland. As I’ve said time and again, you cannot be the greatest nation in the world if you’re guilty of genocide … and especially if your country’s policies were the inspiration that engineered one of the world’s most devastating genocides.”

Moya-Smith presents evidence that our founding fathers themselves set in stone the policy for resolving what eventually became known as the “Indian Problem” …  another phrase Hitler stole when he labelled his policy to exterminate Jews as the “Jewish Problem” … during the Andrew Jackson presidency when the Indian Removal Act was enacted.

Moya-Smith also presents that Thomas Jefferson once said that “(The American Indian has) justified (their own) extermination.” And, that George Washington offered up the theory that the only way to kill Native Americans was to wage war on their crops.

So again… it is time to stop the sanitization of American history and start reporting history to our children… and most likely to many American adults… the truth about America’s past starting with how a predominately white America tried to and almost did exterminate the American Indians through a program of dehumanization simply because they were in the way of the development and progress of American settlers and various business interests… or white immigrant progress.

Say what?

I am probably gonna make some peeps very uncomfortable with what I am about to say… but, hell… why should today be any different than any other day that I have expressed myself in this column…

The donkeys… by donkeys I mean probably a some of those within the DNC and party people in high positions of power and/or elected office…  in all likelihood, probably did not want Barack Obama… the dude I usually call the Bamster… to be the president either. Yep, it wasn’t just the elephants but many donkeys were also appalled that a darkie was running and then became our prez. What happened is that got snared and hung up by their own petard. They so often preached that they were this liberal progressive party who advocated for civil rights, equality and justice for all that when the Bamster started swooping up primary wins, they were kinda, sorta stuck between a rock and a hard place. They couldn’t very well pull the same shit they eventually did on Bernie… a very old and a very white man… because then how could they explain the conundrum… this dude is killing at his rallies and then at primaries and then somehow fix the results through all sorts of political machinations and sundry bullshit pull the rug out from under him and still claim to be a party of liberalness, equality and justice and freedom for all?

And… once he won the election some of the party proper, as well as probably some of their white constituents, weren’t very happy.

Yes, I am saying there are racists within the donkey party and they damn well did not like the fact that the very black person that is Barack Obama was now the damn president of the United States of America. To be sure, they couldn’t pull a Mitch McConnell and say that “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” (Which, by the by, the elephants most dramatically and resoundingly failed at achieving.) But, they most certainly could, and probably did not fully support certain initiatives that Obama wanted to get done… maybe a reason why his climate change bill was passed by the House but stalled in the Serrate and never came to the floor for a vote where it eventually came to a quiet death.

Or, they could make sure the party faithful didn’t come out in droves which could partially be a reason the elephants gained control of the House in 2010 and then both houses of Congress during the midterm elections during Obama’s second term.

Just like all elephants are not all racist motherfuckers, not all donkeys give a good goddamn about Black folks… they may give lip service to the party line but that don’t mean they mean it.

There was a reason Malcolm X said in a speech that the donkeys are playing Black people for a political chumps…

Batshit craziness…

What the fuck is wrong with Trumpty Dumpty? I mean I know the guy is a sad excuse for a human who is usually… that’s 99.9999999% of the time…  without much feeling for anyone not named Donald Trump but really? In the aftermath of the murderous terrorist attack on the London Bridge he tweets this bullshit … “We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!”

Then after somebody must have finally broke through his ego and brought to his attention how insensitive, inhumane and totally inappropriate and asinine, and above all, how much it would hurt his ratings in the public eye that his tweet was, he came back and tweeted…   “Whatever the United States can do to help out in London and the U. K., we will be there – WE ARE WITH YOU. GOD BLESS!”

And, then followed that with… “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!’”

What the Mayor…  Sadiq Khan… had said was… “Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days. There’s no reason to be alarmed.”

Trumpty totally took everything out of context and twisted it around to once again address his agenda which is that he is the only one willing to do what is necessary to lead the fight against terrorism… damn people’s rights and damn if people are frightened because maybe that is what’s needed… for people to get scared shitless… so paranoid… that they be ready to allow anything to protect their asses. In other word…  he lied straight faced while people were trying to find a reason to believe.

And still he was not done… he tweeted… “Do you notice we are not having a gun debate right now? That’s because they used knives and a truck!”

Ex-fucking-cuse me? Exactly what the hell does that mean or have to do with anything?

The man ain’t right in the head… he needs to go to his room and take all his asshole buddies along with him, and stay the fuck away from society. He needs to just shut the fuck up and leave managing the world … or at least the United States … to grownups, who at least understand how things need to be addressed and dealt with… whether I agree with it or not.

We go enough problems in this world; we certainly don’t need a madman running around saying all sorts of crazy ass shit that will result in who knows what…

Liar, liar…

Back when Trumpty Dumpty was running for prez, I said… more than once… in what world does any working class, or middle class, person who supports his ass and is considering voting for his ass think that this stone cold proven lying ass billionaire will ever give a shit about any of them?

He went into coal country and he was doing his electioneering sidewalk act and promised all those miners that he would save their jobs, when he said “Let me tell you: the miners in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, which was so great to me last week and Ohio and all over, they’re going to start to work again, believe me. You’re going to be proud again to be miners.”

Hell… in March, he even… with much fanfare and coal miners gathered… signed an executive order that rolled back a temporary ban on mining coal and environmental protection rules and said… “I made them this promise. We will put our miners back to work.”

The latest news from the White House to news media folks… in fact from Gary Cohn, Trumpty’s economic adviser… is that coal isn’t even good for much of anything anymore and the future of American energy is in natural gas, solar, and wind.

Cohn said, “Natural gas, which we have become an abundant producer, which we’re going to become a major exporter of, is such a cleaner fuel. if you think about how solar and how much we’ve created in the US, we can be a manufacturing powerhouse and still be environmentally friendly.”

Trump lied, and he damn well knew he was lying to those coal miners. He lied for no another reason than to get people to vote for his lunatic billionaire ass.

in 2014, Nobel prize-winning economist Paul Krugman said, “The real war on coal, or at least on coal workers, took place a generation ago, waged not by liberal environmentalists but by the coal industry itself. And coal workers lost.”

What he meant was that technology and automation had made it so that the coal mining industry needed fewer and fewer actual people to do any of the mining anymore.

Added to that is the fact that the market for coal had already started to collapse even as he was lying his ass off to those coal miners… domestically because of competition from cheaper and cleaner energy sources and internationally, because most countries in the world are moving away from the most foul of the available fossil fuels just like we are doing… regardless of how many executive orders Trumpty signs revoking environmental protections to supposedly put miners back to work or allow oil pipelines to be built.

The great financial oracle from Wall Street… aka Goldman Sachs… even says that “Peak coal is coming sooner than expected. The industry does not require new investment given the ability of existing assets to satisfy flat demand. So, prices will remain under pressure as the deflationary cycle continues.”
In people speak… there is no foreseeable recovery for coal futures, which have already dropped 77% since 2008 and 63 percent since 2011.

It is the primary reason many coal companies are following in Trumpty’s business management and leadership footsteps and cashing in their chips, walking away and declaring bankruptcy.

The only ones left out in the cold without a pot to piss in or a window to toss it out of… are the poor coal miners who got screwed royally in every way imaginable.

Another thousand words…
