Almost cut my hair but why I didn’t @ WTF 1/11

Almost cut my hair…

joe1Another day and another penny… at least that’s what it seems to be sometimes… but… my fingers are still typing onto my computer keyboard and putting some of my rambling and gambling thoughts of my questionable grey matter onto my computer screen. Then from mine to this websites for your perusal and hopeful consumption…

The phrase and title of today’s column is (1) taken from a song that was done by the Byrds back in the day and (2) were used because I have been thinking of taking a break from writing the column for a while…

It ain’t always easy coming up with new stuff and sometimes I just feel like its the same old story… just a different day with slightly varied and  some what hackneyed words.

But, then a confluence of events came to be and I changed my mind…

Almost cut my hair
Happened just the other day
It’s gettin’ kind of long
I could’ve said it was in my way

But I didn’t and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
And I feel like I owe it, to someone, yeah

Must be because I had the flu this Christmas
And I’m not feeling up to par
And increases my paranoia
Like looking in my mirror and seeing a police car

But I’m not, I’m not giving in an inch to fear
‘Cause I’ve promised myself this year
I feel oh, like I owe it,to someone

When I get myself together
I’m gonna get down in that sunny southern weather, yeah

I’m goin’ find a space inside a laugh, yes
Separate the wheat from some chaff
I feel
Like I owe it, yeah, to someone

“I ain’t gonna hit you. I ain’t gonna hit you. To hell I’m not!” …

joe1I wasn’t gonna write or say anything about Trumpty Dumpty… I’m just tired of running out the same old stuff. I just feel most of ya’ll are already in one corner or the other anyway. Probably what I have to say ain’t gonna amount to a hill of beans to changing your mind at all.

And… yeah… I know for those of us who feel the man is a sad, horrible, lying ass, poor excuse example of humanity that it’s kinda, sorta our responsibility to hold the fire to his feet every time he issues one of his proclamatory false tweets or otherwise public pronouncements, so that his lies somehow don’t simply become accepted as less than the damn dangerous batshit propaganda that they are…

Still… I am just starting to feel a tad on the repetitive side and worn down by it all and am just wondering if hammering down on the same refrain week after week is beginning to turn more people away than is being drawn to this column… WTF… and this website… 7Poundbag.

Then, I see something from HuffPo and other media sites about some shit Trumpty has said…  bundle of his quotes… sound bites. And… if, I heard any of what he said in isolation… just one of the quotes by itself… it could be really easy to just toss the words out as Trumpty being Trumpty. But, the reality is that those words are not just isolated nothing phrases that have no consequence what so ever. If, you put the words all together and then hear them… or view them… in their totality… as one lump sum of his so-called sentient consciousness… an entirely different sense of who Trumpty is begins to come together.

And… it ain’t just Trumpty being Trumpty…

Now… way back when Trumpty was making noise as a candidate I had once compared what Trumpty was doing to stuff that the fucktard Hitler had once done in the mid-20th century. There was a world war fought… more or less… because of him, and what he wrought, that had begun with his desire to control and rule the world with his racist ideologies.

Lately, I had been backing off from that stance. I thought even Trumpty, as bad and nasty as he is, ain’t as bad as Hitler.  I know… world leaders once were willing to accept and justify Hitler. And, I know… when we let down on our diligence that’s just when the wort shit sometimes can get into play and start doing stuff we really don’t want occurring.

The words Trumpty said… the various words and phrases he made in public sometimes to cheering crowds… combined with actress Meryl Streep’s comments at the Golden Globe Awards made me stop and reconsider my present attitude towards Trumpty Dumpty.  (A Golden Globe Award is an American honor presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) recognizing excellence in film and television, both domestic and foreign.)streep

Streep was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement and as Streep accepted the award she spent her time not speaking about her long and distinguished career but by making a political and a critical social statement of the times that are definitely achanginq as we enter into a period in America that will be politically controlled by Trumpty and the elephant party. Streep never mentioned Trumpty by name but it was clear who she was referencing in her words.

“There was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good. There was nothing good about it. But it was effective, and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth.

It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.

And this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.

This brings me to the press. We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call them on the carpet for every outrage. That’s why our founders enshrined the press and its freedoms in our constitution. So I only ask the famously well-heeled Hollywood Foreign Press and all of us in our community to join me in supporting the committee to protect journalists. Because we’re going to need them going forward. And they’ll need us to safeguard the truth.”

The incident was when Trumpty was doing what he does best… belittling people who either challenge him, disagree with him or point out an outright lie he tries to claim is truth. It was during the pre-election campaign, when he mocked New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski (who has arthrogryposis, which is a malady that visibly limits the functioning of his joints) by bizarrely shaking about the stage.

Why did Trumpty do this?

At one point in his electioneering he made the statement that when the World Trade Towers were struck and destroyed by hi-jacked planes, that thousands of Muslims in New Jersey danced and cheered.  It never happened… some Muslims maybe but not thousands of Muslims cheering the travesty that happened on September 11th 2001. Needless to say, Trumpty was taken to task for the falsehood. In his defense he pointed to a 2001 article Kovaleski had co-authored that said, “Law enforcement authorities detained and questioned a number of people who were allegedly seen celebrating the attacks and holding tailgate-style parties on rooftops while they watched the devastation on the other side of the river.”

muslims-cheeringWhen asked about what he had written Kovaleski said, “I certainly do not remember anyone saying that thousands or even hundreds of people were celebrating. That was not the case, as best as I can remember.”

Just to be clear… “a number of people” in any way, shape or form would not be interpreted as being “thousands of people.” A “number of people” might mean a small group of people… a crowd at best.

When Kovaleski’s comments got back to Trump, he went out of his way at a November rally to berate the reporter by mocking his physical disability by exaggeratedly and somewhat spastically shaking around on stage while saying, “Now, the poor guy… you’ve got to see this guy, ‘Ah, I don’t know what I said! I don’t remember!’”

Trumpty took more heat for that incident.

Since then he has said, he never mocked a disabled reporter but simply showed him ‘groveling’ due to the fact he changed his original story about Muslims dancing in the streets.

If, I had to guess how to depict  another person groveling I believe it would be to lie or crawl with the face downward and the body prostrate, trying to look abjectly humble or in fear. Not bizarrely jumping around and shaking and stuttering as if you were the village idiot.

Believe what you want but the facts speak plainly and clearly to me… Trump was belittling a person he considered a threat… hell… he viciously, despicably and moronically attacked a guy and egged on his supporters at the rally to cheer him on. Both fed on one another… the crowd sadly on Trumpty’s words and Trumpty on the crowd’s reactions.

With Streep’s words now stimulating my conscience prodder, I then saw the HuffPo piece and… ah, fuck it… let the words speak for themselves…

Just this one thing first… these are not all the Trumpty quotes from the HuffPo article but in my opinion they are the most eye-opening and the most damning quotes about what Trump is about…

“All men are created equal. Well, it’s not true. ‘Cause some are smart, some aren’t.”genes_copy

“When you connect two racehorses, you usually end up with a fast horse.”

“Secretariat doesn’t produce slow horses.”

“Do we believe in the gene thing? I mean, I do.”

“I have great genes and all that stuff which, I’m a believer in.”

“You have a certain gene, I’m… a gene believer.”

“The fact is you have to be born and blessed with something up there.”

“Some people cannot genetically handle pressure.”

“Winning is something that is innate. It’s just something you have. You know… you have the winning gene.”

And, the last and the most critical as well as defining quote of them all…

“You know I’m proud to have that German blood no question about it. Great stuff.”

Anybody thinking about Eugenics right about now?

Ya know… the so-called “science” of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics.

Ya know… kinda, sorta what Hitler was all about?

restock-the-swampFood for thought. Just think about it.

Then take the time to think about some other shit he has said…

When you get done grokking that… think about who he is appointing to his advisory staff and his cabinet.

He is a very dangerous person in a very critical position.

Be afraid. Be very afraid…

Not paranoid afraid but wisely afraid and aware.

Then speak out at every opportunity… challenge wherever and whenever you can every time Trumpty or one of his stooges speak against the welfare of we the people or say an outright lie.

Because from now I am intending to never stop speaking out against him and what he is unjustly trying to do to all of we the people… the 99%… in America and by extension in the world.

I just feel like I kind of owe it to someone.

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

“He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.”

Another shooting… another child gone…

Recently, a 6-year-old North Carolina girl… let me stop for a minute… why in the hell does it seem when the words gun… shooting… people dying are being used that there is a good chance some incident in North Carolina is gonna be involved?

Any way… a 6-yer old child was shot and killed when her 11-year-old cousin was showing off his new Christmas present to her… a new shotgun.

Victoria Whitehurst killed when shotgun held by an 11-year-old cousin goes off
Victoria Whitehurst killed when shotgun held by an 11-year-old cousin goes off

The boy was displaying the weapon in front of his younger cousin and another 12-year-old girl when it went off.  By the time first responders arrived the child was beyond any hope… she was deceased.

Of course… the usual words were said… “sorrys” were expressed… as well as the du jour “the boy was a good child.”

And as far as I know he probably was… from what I read there is no evidence of any malice being involved… there is no evidence that he was being a threat with the gun… just that he was showing it off when it went off…

The sheriff’s department however is looking into whether any charges should be filed.

And as hard as this is for everyone… as sad and tragic an incident as this is… in my opinion… they had better file some damn charges.

Start wit the gun was not in a locked and secured place. That’s per the sheriffs’ department.

The boy somehow had easy access to a loaded shotgun and obviously was either untrained in how to properly display a weapon… check to see if it is loaded and then if it is unload the damn fucking thing… or… if he was trained then he simply wasn’t trained to the point where he automatically did what he was trained to do.

So who carries the weight for that?

The peeps who gave him the damn shotgun and who supposedly were to have oversaw his ownership of the weapon.

They need to be held accountable.

I am sorry I don’t believe an 11-year-old should (1) own a damn shotgun… and… (2) regardless what I think, if an 11-year-old does own a shotgun then the 11-year-old should only have access to it under the strict supervision of a responsible adult. Since this was obviously not the case someone needs to pay for that negligence.

Hard time in a prison. No. But maybe weekends in jail for 6 months and then a very long probationary sentence with an additional hefty fine.

Just my opinion.

Just some more damn opinion…

Let me throw some things out there… food for though so to speak…

First… another MLK Jr quote… mlk1

“Capitalism does not permit an even flow of economic resources. With this system, a small privileged few are rich beyond conscience, and almost all others are doomed to be poor at some level. That’s the way the system works. And since we know that the system will not change the rules, we are going to have to change the system.”
Now let me say this… I keep hearing how communism is no damn god… from the time I was child… many, many long years ago… until to this very day… the red menace is just no damn good… and… them commies… especially them Russians and now… oh, my, gawd… them damn Chinese… are trying to destroy us… take us over one way or the other.  Plus, Communism as  a system… an economic system… Just. Does. Not. Work.

Can you prove that to me? Anyone?

Because I say you can’t. Whyizthat?

Because simply it has never been tried anywhere in the world that I am aware… at least not on a national level of any country that has existed in this world.

What about Russia? China? And all them other so-called commie places?

They are not examples of communist economic theory being utilized. They are communist in name only. Communism is an ideal whose time has yet to come… and… who knows if it will ever come.

Be nice if it could happen. But truthfully the way things in this old world are right now… it’s just not possible.

And… for all ya’ll out there saying… “Well, maybe that’s so but I am just glad I’m living in the good old USA… a democracy.

Try this on for size… we are a form of democracy but not a democracy in and of itself. To be more exact..we are a constitutional federal republic…the-united-states-of-america-is-a-democracy

Constitutional because of… well… because we have the damn Constitution.

Federal because America the country is a union of states and commonwealths (each with their own  similar but different republican governments.)

Republic because America is actually ruled by an elected few and not by the more democratically one voice one vote.

So the truth?

When some day some one finally tries running a country by a true democracy or a true communism let me know so we can see if it can actually work.

Until then… let’s just settle on down and try and get on with the job of living our lives in a way that is a hell of a lot more equitable and just than what the hell we all have now.

A sour apple for Tim…

Apple's 2016 revenues fall & Tim Cook takes pay cut
Apple’s 2016 revenues fall & Tim Cook takes pay cut

Apple Inc. missed its revenue and profit goals for the first time since Tim Cook stepped in to head the company. So…  as a result Cook and other company execs did not get their full measured of “promised compensation for the year.

What’s that really mean?

Cook got paid… in total compensation salary and other bennies, etc…  $8.75 million instead of his total compensation for last year… $10.28 million.

And what? I’m supposed to shed a tear for this “poor” guy?

There is a difference…

I have, as of late, begun to point out how the Bamster is just another in a long line of presidents that are nothing more than lackeys of the one per cent of the one per cent. Start with Tricky Dicky Nixon up to Wee Willie Clinton all the way to the Bamster and except for some variance in certain rules of law and how our tax money is spent tell me exactly what was the real difference between all them prezs?

Yeah a “liberal”like the Bamster gave us The Affordable care Act… and by the way, LBJ once “gave” Black folks their civil rights, too…  and he did… the Bamster… did some other nice stuff…  but… really? look at his entire record and you tell me how much he really did do for ya’ll…  I’m waiting…

In my opinion? He did a lot more for big corporations and their profits than he ever did for any one of us citizens … what with waging wars, allowing oil companies to build pipe lines, (yeah, he did go check it out), bailing out banks, etc…    just like the previous seven presidents before him who did more for the one per cent than any single one of us damn citizens who could use some real help making it from day to day.

Now comes along Trumpty Dumpty… A damn for real billionaire.

So, what kind of change are you expecting?

For those of you who think he will make changes that benefits John and Jane Q. Public… keep drinking the koolaid and smoking the the dope.

But… truth be told there is a difference between a schmuck like Trumpty and a dude like the Bamster… check it out…difference

One is so self absorbed, so self  centered, so selfish and self consumed… while the other actually thinks about others… their welfare…  before himself…

Another thousand words…

  1. Joe,

Dante in his “Inferno” wrote (in translation) “The hottest spots i hell are reserved for those who in time of crisis hold to neutrality. Yes, it is redundant to keep on Trump’s tail, but it is necessary.

Lincoln wrote “As I would not be a slave, so I would no be a master. This is my idea of democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is not democracy.

It was on a smaller scale than you mentioned, but there have been successful communist societies. Some of the best were composed of settlers to the new world trying to support each other through their first winter. (I wonder if there is a lesson to be learned for those who made it through that winter? They reverted to feudalism and capitalism.)

  2. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your words, Mr. Appleseed… it’s always a pleasure to hear from you.
