Standing with Standing Rock Sioux … WTF 11/2

Standing up… with the Sioux

joe1-jpg1Pretty amazing world, we live in… sometimes… pretty fucked up, too.

Remember when those dudes took over the Malheur Wildlife Refuge? Stood off the feds and other varied and sundry armed officers of the law? For about six weeks or so? Anyone remember anybody getting pepper sprayed? Any one get whacked over the head with billy clubs? Anyone get shot in the face with any rubber bullets? Any drones flying over head? refuge

Yeah, one guy did get shot and died from his wounds but evidence says he was about to shoot it out with officers… so…

Not saying he deserved getting his ass killed… but… if, you wanna be a badass, then sometimes ya have to accept that badass shit might come back to visit ya’ll.

But, outside of that incident how much violence to those (ahem… cough… cough) protesters was done to their assess? Not a whole hell of lot when ya’ll think about it. Right?

Anyway… they were ultimately busted, charged and had to go to trial. Now a jury has come back and said they were innocent. Innocent of all charges.

Despite ruining Native American artifacts, burial grounds and archaeological areas. They were found innocent.  They were armed and dangerous trespassing mutts and they stood off federal and state employees and prevented them from carrying out their job responsibilities. They cost the government… feds and state as well as local authorities… countless amounts of dollars to extricate them from that Refuge that they never had any legal or supposedly historical claim to, as well as to try their asses.

Now a jury has found them innocent and allowed them to go back to their virtually unharmed and slightly inconvenienced lives.verdict

Let me ask… if, these were folks of color exactly how do ya’ll think this would have gone down?

North Dakota and some oil pipeline running through some Native American sacred grounds ring a bell?

After the trial and verdict, I read an Op-ed that was written by Lane Crothers (a professor of politics and government at Illinois State University) who said that this case was an example of jury nullification. Which in his words is that the jury “failed to enact their Constitutional duty to apply the law rather than their opinions…” And, then, he adds that’s fucking scary.

OK, I added the fucking but the scary part is all his. But, I’m buying into what he says.

He goes on to say “If juries follow their opinions and not the law, then we don’t have the rule of law anymore. We have a series of ad hoc popularity contests.”

He concludes… “That’s bad.”

He adds that beyond this “constitutional problem” there is our present day reality and that is just as scary and not in a halloweeny type manner… rather as a real frightening fucked up for shit reality…

He lists among our many batshit crazy ass lunacies… a presidential candidate who has said that he might not accept the results of an election (but only if he loses) …. a former U.S. Congressman, Joe Walsh, who has decided to break out his musket (good luck with that idea, if ya’ll gonna be going against Federales with automatic weaponry) to fight off the donkey re-education camps if Hillary Billary is elected, and various Trumpty Dumpty followers who say they will target “certain” precincts (read that as predominately Black) in various large cities with threats of violence… as well as violence itself being displayed at many of Trumpty’s rallies…

On the other side of the coin…

More and more Black folks, as well as other people of color, are getting more and more pissed off whenever another human being dies by cop. And, some of these folks have started reacting in a not so peaceful manner… burning and pillaging mostly within their own neighborhoods… but… sometimes the little bell goes off in their heads… and they take the battle to other more affluent areas.

Indigenous peoples demonstrating against Big Oil trespassing on their lands, albeit with the permission of our so-called government.  And, yeah, that’s effectively under the auspices of the Bamster.

Big Oil desecrating their sacred grounds… threatening their drinking water and arable lands… farming and livestock… all because of our so-called need for… our dependency upon… oil and its variants. And, now the Feds, and other armed forces, come in and protect Oil’s interests as Oil tries to once again steal from the Native Americans… (of course with the blessings of the government which makes it all “tidy and legal like”)…  the indigenous folks who once laid claim to all of America before the white European people came and stole and raped America away from them.northdakotaprotest

The armed forces of Amerika now obstruct these Native Americans… as well as many other many other folks of all colors… from demonstrating peacefully. These armies come and shoot the demonstrators with rubber bullets… sic big ass, sharp toothed dogs on them… beat them with their hard ass batons… kick and pummel them… tear gassed… pepper sprayed… bust their asses and because the jails are already so damn full of peaceful protesters they haul them off to holding cells and with no toilet facilities, no privacy whatsoever… like wild dogs or some other feral animal that they might have captured… and… now the latest rumor is that these armed forces will use drones against the protesters at Standing Rock. How they will be employed hasn’t been specifically spelled out. But… if… how they have been employed in the Middle East is any indication then there could be some really sad and horrendous repercussions.

police-stomp-headsAll in the name of protecting Big Oil’s property and the “right” to take the Sioux’ land away and the “right” to threaten the Sioux through pollution of their water supplies. All in the name of them that really counts… them that’s got the money and that wants more of that damn money regardless of the cost to any damn fucking Indians.

The time has come to draw the line… the time has come for America to take a stand and say “enough.” To stand with the Sioux of Standing Rock.

In the words of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe’s chairman…  David Archambault II…standingrock

“It’s a familiar story in Indian Country. This is the third time that the Sioux Nation’s lands and resources have been taken without regard for tribal interests. The Sioux peoples signed treaties in 1851 and 1868. The government broke them before the ink was dry. When the Army Corps of Engineers dammed the Missouri River in 1958, it took our riverfront forests, fruit orchards and most fertile farmland to create Lake Oahe. Now the Corps is taking our clean water and sacred places by approving this (pipeline) river crossing. Whether it’s gold from the Black Hills or hydropower from the Missouri or oil pipelines that threaten our ancestral inheritance, the tribes have always paid the price for America’s prosperity.

“Protecting water and our sacred places has always been at the center of our cause. The Indian encampment on the Cannonball grows daily, with nearly 90 tribes now represented. Many of us have been here before, facing the destruction of homelands and waters, as time and time again tribes were ignored when we opposed projects like the Dakota Access pipeline. Our hand continues to be open to cooperation, and our cause is just. This fight is not just for the interests of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, but also for those of our neighbors on the Missouri River: The ranchers and farmers and small towns who depend on the river have shown overwhelming support for our

“As American citizens, we all have a responsibility to speak for a vision of the future that is safe and productive for our grandchildren. We are a peaceful people and our tribal council is committed to nonviolence; it is our constitutional right to express our views and take this stand at the Cannonball camp. Yet the lieutenant governor of North Dakota, Drew Wrigley, has threatened to use his power to end this historic, peaceful gathering. We are also a resilient people who have survived unspeakable hardships in the past, so we know what is at stake now. As our songs and prayers echo across the prairie, we need the public to see that in standing up for our rights, we do so on behalf of the millions of Americans who will be affected by this pipeline.

“As one of our greatest leaders, Chief Sitting Bull of the Hunkpapa Lakota, once said: ‘Let us put our minds together and see what life we can make for our children.’ That appeal is as relevant today as it was more than a century ago.”

And, so it goes and so it needs to be that each and every one of us should make some form of a contribution… be it money, material contributions, time or just a damn phone call… to stand with the Sioux of Standing Rock.

Because we are not just standing for the Sioux… rather… we are standing for the future of our lives as well as the lives of our children and their children and their children’s children… and… right protest2on down the line…

We need to start standing for justice and what is right in all its forms… whether it’s by kneeling during the so-called National Anthem… sitting during the Pledge of Allegiance… or protesting the death of all too many people at the hands of cops who really serve the interest of them that gots and not them that needs… or standing with the Sioux of Standing Rock against the interests of Big Oil and in support the #NoDAPL protesters.

If nothing more… isn’t it time that America finally keeps it word to them who were here first? To those that we call the Native Americans? And, maybe America can stop lying its ass off in the name of the damn almighty dollar?

“The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing”

In the words of Frank Zappa… (from his song … “The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing”)

“You say yer life’s a bum deal
‘N yer up against the wall…
Well, people, you ain’t even got no kinda
Deal at all
Cause what they do
In Washington
They just takes care of NUMBER ONE
You ain’t even NUMBER TWO”

Why this shit is important…

Wanna know why this shit is important? Wanna know why more and more folks are standing with Sioux at Standing Rock?

This is why…

If, tens of thousands of gallons of oil poured into a river that supplied your drinking water… the water you bathed in daily… cooked and cleaned with… drank. A river that also supplied another 10 million people…

Would you? Would you do any of those things? Drink or cook or bathe in it?

Nope. Nor, would I.

Yet, just his past weekend a North Dakota oil well owned by Oasis Petroleum Inc. failed and is leaking more than 67,000 gallons of crude oil and is either about to seriously endanger or has already seriously and negatively impacted a tributary of the Missouri River.

According to Reuters “The blowout happened at 11 p.m. local time on Saturday. The company worked all weekend to regain control of the well, including flying in staff from its Houston headquarters, but so far efforts have been unsuccessful, according to state and local officials.”

The well is about 15 miles south of White Earth, North Dakota, in Mountrail County. That’s just 384 north of Standing Rock… or… up river.

Reuters also reports “A light sheen of oil was on the nearby river, and a Reuters reporter counted at least 16 absorbent booms that had been installed in an attempt to keep the oil from moving downstream. State officials reported approximately 84,000 gallons of saltwater also leaked from the well. Crude oil extracted from the state’s Bakken shale formation typically contains high concentrations of brine (salt water) that must be separated.”

While you think about “maybe” supporting the Sioux at Standing Rock, think about this oil spill and the possibility it may have already poisoned many folks’ drinking water and that it could already be travelling down to the other folk’s water sources along the Missouri River.

Maybe it might be time to take a stand against the tin soldiers that Amerika sends to protect the interests of the greedy corporate oligarchy… the true masters of war of that send the politicians their marching orders.nd-gov

This is all about making a stand for what’s right and what’s just and what’s good for our… and our children’s…  future…

No more greed… take the time to tell the Bamster… Hillary Billary… to tell the governor of North Dakota… and all the other politicos that they need to stand down from building an oil line through Standing Rock.  Trumpty wouldn’t listen no matter what… so… I ain’t asking ya’ll to say anything to his lame brained fat ass.

I wish no deaths ever occur from this protest but maybe standing up and with the Sioux against Big Oil… that this can be the lynch pin moment for this time, that Kent State was once for many in their fight against America being in Vietnam.

Masters Of War

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin’
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it’s your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people’s blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You’ve thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain’t worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I’m young
You might say I’m unlearned
But there’s one thing I know
Though I’m younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death’ll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I’ll watch while you’re lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I’ll stand o’er your grave
’Til I’m sure that you’re dead
