In a tip of the WTF hat to a former writer on this site… Jayne… some “Musings From the Bench…” or… random thoughts that either popped into my brain, or that I saw somewhere, that I’d like someone to provide an answer for me… some of these are gonna piss some people right the hell off… and… tough… I think it’s shit that needs thinking about…
Kimani Gregoire posted this on Facebook… “Remember back in 2008 when folks were questioning whether Barack Obama’s political resume (just two years in the U.S. Senate; 7 years in the Illinois Senate) was enough to qualify him to be president? Funny, but I don’t hear these same questions for Donald Trump. I’m just saying.”
Yeah, me, too… I’m just asking… what’s up with that shit? Someone wanna try explaining that?
I agree with Kaep wholeheartedly… I said essentially the same during a conversation with a coworker just the other day… the flag is just a piece of cloth… a symbol of America… but… still a piece of cloth and nothing more. I agree with Kaepernick… and… I, also, refuse to value a piece of cloth over people’s lives.
People really need to get over what they believe/think is important and start worrying about the stuff that is important… like people dying in wars. or on the streets of our towns and cities… poverty…hunger… ya know all the small stuff that no one seems to give a shit about… like justice…
So, tell me then… just why do people think it’s important to have a war and have young people die… civilians as well as soldiers… sometimes over nothing more than a piece of damn cloth? Or… what’s so damn funny about peace, love and understanding after all when all is said and done?
Wanna know one of the things that really pisses me off about Trumpty Dumpty?
He calls all of these women fat… and 99.9% of them happen to be beautiful women… and… yet… he tips the fucking scales at what 275 plus?
So… how in the hell does a fucking fat man in the bath tub get away thinking he can call any woman fat when he himself is fatter than fuck. Way fatter than them any of them ladies is… explain the logic behind that one to me. Someone?
Former NFL player Brian Banks… who was wrongly accused of rape in 2002… in an interview with told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin had some stuff to say about Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner, who was found guilty of the same act but got a lot lesser “punishment”… six months jail for raping an “unconscious, inebriated” female student… in a 2015 incident.
Banks told Baldwin, “The judge in this case totally mishandled the situation. Something has to be done about this and my heart goes out to the victim. The sad thing about this is that Brock was sentenced based on his lifestyle. Because of that, the conclusion was that prison would have a negative impact on him. But what about the children that have no choice about where they are born and who they are born to … When that kid stands in front of that judge, they see all the negative.”
So… someone got an answer for Mr. Banks?
And… while you’re at it… for me, too?
While the U.S. Department of Justice temporarily halted construction of a section of the Dakota Access Pipeline… that would pass through Indigenous American people’s… that’s Indians to a late of stupid peeps… sacred land and could impact their drinking water as well as the water of thousands of other folks… two other pipelines are moving forward.
In September, DeSmogBlog investigative reporter Steve Horn reported that back in May… the Obama administration granted the permits for two other pipelines…. the Trans-Pecos and Comanche Trail pipelines. Construction isn’t quite underway yet, but the plans are well formulated and it is but a fait accompli. Horn also reports that no one really understands yet the possible environmental consequences that effect millions of acres of land or water sources for countless legions of citizens if some catastrophic leak or other tragedy should occur.
So… what’s the name of the game? Same shit different area? A classic case of some misdirection? Look see we’re doing the right thing… finally… we do listen. And then go do the same thing somewhere else while we ain’t looking? While we so busy patting ourselves on the back for standing up to the man?
Anyone care to field this one? Explain this bullshit? Or… are ya’ll just all right with it? Anyone?
Then Horn reports… that the same month (May, remember?) the Bamster allowed these pipe lines a presser was held that announced that the U.S. and Mexican governments signed an agreement creating the U.S.-Mexico Energy Business Council.
The council’s announced objective? “… to bring together representatives of the energy industries of the United States and Mexico to discuss issues of mutual interest.”
Think making money… lots and lots of money… a whole lot of money… is one of them interests?
The members of the council is a veritable who’s who list of major oil and gas players… the list “… includes a senior-level lobbyist for Halliburton; the president of oil and gas industry services giant Honeywell Mexico; the CEO of Hunt Consolidated Energy (and former energy policy adviser for George W. Bush’s 2000 campaign); the CFO of Sempra Energy’s Mexican subsidiary, IEnova; and the president of the Petroleum Equipment Suppliers Association (PESA), who worked on the press team in the George W. Bush White House and 2000 presidential campaign as well as Halliburton itself (where have I heard that name before?) and other oil and gas industry services companies.”
All will be involved in the immense profiteering of moving energy through the US and into Mexico.
Walls? fuck them walls… think I’m being frivolous with my words?
One industry executive recently told Financial Times, “As long as the (Trumpty Dumpty) wall doesn’t go below ground, I think we’ll be OK.”
Horn further reports that “… this creation of the U.S.-Mexico Energy Business Council comes as Mexico continues to make its push to privatize its energy sector under the auspices of constitutional amendments signed into law in 2013 and move away from the state-owned system run by Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos).” The U.S. State Department… as DeSmogBlog first pointed out… spearheaded those privatization efforts. State at the time was under then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
So… tell me? What’s the difference between the donkeys and the elephants, again? Anyone? I’m started to have hard time seeing it. The lines of demarcation between the two seem to be blurring a hell of a lot lately. So someone wanna explain what the damn difference is when it all comes down to it?
Or… is it the truth… and not just paranoiac delusions… when some people say there ain’t no damn difference… they both serve the same damn master?
The clock is ticking and the hour is getting late…
It’s the law…
Ya’ll know… or should know if you even sniffed any news lately… that Trumpty Dumpty has gotten himself into some very big muddiness… even more than his usual stupidness… after he alleged he has sexually abused several women.
Then out of right field came this comment… “The left will promote and understand and tolerate anything, as long as there is one element. Do you know what it is? Consent. If there is consent on both or all three or all four, however many are involved in the sex act, it’s perfectly fine. But, if, the left ever senses and smells that there’s no consent in part of the equation then here come the rape police.”
That was Rush Limbaugh who said it on the show he hosts… The Rush Limbaugh show.
One problem… by law, the so-called “rape police”… which most people tend to call the police… are required to uphold and enforce Title 10, Part II, Chapter 47, Subchapter X , Section 920: Article. 120… Rape and sexual assault which states that a sexual act done without the knowledge (Brock Turner judge… ya listening here?) or consent of the other person involved is rape or sexual assault.
Essentially… fuck that… what good ole boy Limburger cheese head Rush is saying is that the left wingers… or more accurately any correct minded thinking person… and a good amount of even most wrong minded thinking peeps… are wrong to want the police departments of America to uphold a law of America
Rush… ya dumb dickhead… It’s the fucking law!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you believe in magic?
I’m shocked… I have no words… Ummm… yes… I do…
While, I can’t believe this is true. I applaud it wholeheartedly… and say it’s about damn time somebody in authority wants it and is making a stand for it to happen.
What the fuck am I ranting and raving about?
Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Police Commissioner James O’Neill want new laws on the books that would allow all disciplinary proceedings against cops to be made public… full and true transparency.
On Friday (10/14), Mayor de Blasio announced said City Hall will work with lawmakers and police unions on a new law. He also pointedly said, “We hope advocates for greater transparency will join us in the effort to reform this State law.”
That means… when and if the law is enacted… the NYPD would post on its web site a full accounting of any disciplinary action. When a full accounting is said a full accounting is meant… the officers’ names, the charges filed, any transcripts and/or exhibits from any hearings at all, plus the final summary and decision and the ultimate final finding by the commissioner… James O’Neill.
O’Neill, himself, said, “I believe in transparency. I also believe that making information about disciplinary proceedings public will help us build trust with the community.”
I got only one thing to add… Amen… so be it… let this be so. It won’t necessarily be the end of injustice but its a damn start… a big start.
And, let it be the template for all police departments to follow as we try to head into a better future.
One more time…
“Oh no, sweetie, put your hand down…”
After a man passed out on Flight DL945, an attendant rushed to his side to check out his condition. At first he appeared to come awake but then passed out once again. When the man then continued to be unresponsive the attendant asked a fellow worker to see if there were anyone with medical experience who could lend a hand.
Dr. Tamika Cross, an OBGYN resident, started to respond and she was told… “Oh no, sweetie, put your hand down, we are looking for actual physicians or nurses or some type of medical personnel. We don’t have time to talk to you.”
Cross later wrote on a social media site… “I tried to inform her that I was a physician but I was continually cut off by condescending remarks.”
Then… “They paged: ‘Any physician on board please press your button.’ ”
Cross adds that as she went to press her button the attendant said… “Oh wow you’re an actual physician?'”
Still that was not good enough for the attendant… she needed proof… she wanted credentials… she wanted to know what kind of doctor Cross was… where she worked… why she was in Detroit…
As if any of that mattered or was any of the attendant’s business… and more importantly a man’s life could have been in the balance as the dolt was wasting valuable seconds… minutes….
According to Dr Cross, she was eventually passed over for a white male passenger who said he was a doctor.
The attendant then told Dr. Cross… “Thanks for your help, but he can help us, and he has his credentials.”
Cross later told news media folks, “Mind you, he hasn’t shown anything to her. Just showed up and fit the ‘description of a doctor’.”
Cross the said when the man woke up and become responsive to questions the attendant finally asked if she could lend a hand. For whatever reason the attendant was now convinced a woman… a Black woman.. could actually be a medical doctor.
After some profuse apologies and an offer of extra air miles… aka a bribe of sorts… piddling at best but still an attempt of a buyout of Cross’ integrity… Cross said no thank you. Then took it to a higher authority within Delta Airlines and called it what it was… discrimination. Discrimination on all sorts of levels the least of which was due to her skin tone.
In a Sunday morning post on social media she also added, “I’m sure many of my fellow young, corporate America working women of color can all understand my frustration when I say I’m sick of being disrespected.”
Delta spokeswoman Catherine Sirna released a statement that said, “Discrimination of any kind is never acceptable. We’ve been in contact with Dr. Cross and one of our senior leaders is reaching out to assure her that we’re completing a full investigation.”
Point blank… this is the height of what discrimination… racism…is. It is also the epitome of what white privilege is and how it can be used to paint people of color with a wide and racist paint brush. Because Dr. Cross was Black and a woman, she could hardly had been asking to offer her services in a meaningful manner, especially not as a medical professional. She must have been just a silly stupid dolt trying to inter herself in a situation where she had no business being. When, in fact, it could have been a case where that the passed out man was suffering from a serious illness or malady that could have resulted in his death if he had not gotten assistance from a medical professional as soon as he could. Luckily it wasn’t the case but what if it had been and what if the attendant refused to allow Cross to help and what if the man died. All very possible and very potential realities.
Because someone who was Black and who tried to do what they were trained to do… render medical assistance when needed… was assumed by someone who was white to not be capable and what she was actually was… a doctor.
So, a white flight attendant allowed a white man… on his word alone… to help.
That is white privilege. And, that is how white privilege is racist… individually and institutionally… in a nutshell.
Another thousand words…
