Dog days of summer blues @ WTF 8/17

something to think about

Dag gone dog days…

It’s the dog days of summer and I don’t know about other parts of the country but right now in my part of New England it is fucking damn hot and damn humid. And, believe it or not, I happen to live in an abode that has no AC…

I know that is barbaric but it is what it is. With that in my mind… sleep is something that has been little to none for me the last week or so. Or, in as few words as possible…not fun… not fucking fun at all.

With that in mind I am going to try and keep this week’s column to a minimum… my brain is tired.  To paraphrase George Harrison… I look at my screen and I see my words need re-editing, still my fingers gently weep…

You only have one conscience… use it!

joe1Some peeps in the power structure of the donkey central committee rigged the primaries and used a smear campaign against Bernie, so Clinton could get the nomination of the donkey party. And… despite all that bullshit… Bernie almost won anyway.

Or… would have at least forced a convention showdown.  But, nope… nada… the donkey power structure used the BS super delegates to clinch the fix that was in for Hillary Billary, regardless of how the primary voting… the voice of the people of the donkey party… was headed.adams 2

Then peeps wonder why other peeps have this idea that the two party system in America ain’t exactly working for the we of the we the people who actually make America go. Who do the everyday shit work that needs to be done, so that the system really does work, or, least, meanders petulantly along so the big business of America keeps pumping out commodities… be they big, small or in-between, so, that the certain somebodies who think they are the bigger part of the we the people get their profits while the other folks… the true we the people… get barely enough to keep on trucking along through their daily days… getting their daily bread.

So, as the prezidential campaign moves along… as Trumpty Dumpty keeps seemingly shooting himself in the foot and his campaign to hell and back and is seemingly losing support left and right… (pun slightly intended)… remember this… Hillary Billary is one email scandal away… one more SecState decision come back to haunt her ass… one more FBI investigation… Justice Department inquiry… Senate review… or even a Clinton Foundation financial boondoggle away from losing all the donkey party steam heading into November that Trumpty has handed to her so far. In simple words… while it now appears at this stage of the election game that it is her election to lose… it ain’t over yet, and, something can still come around to change the balance of the electorates… aka we the peoples…  sometimes shaky and very fickle mind.

The facts are that Hills is ahead in the polls to the extent that most polls say if the election were held today that she has enough states to gain the 270 electoral votes needed to anoint her ascendancy into the white mansion at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

However, the election is about another 12 weeks from happening and a lot of shit can still happen as to who will eventually come out a winner after the votes are all tallied on election day.

My prediction? I think it’s gonna be Hills… in a potential bloodbath for the elephants.

But… as a once big ass CEO of a very large company that I once worked for was prone to saying during every state of the company meeting that was held… nothing is written in stone… but all is good and the company is moving right along… despite any rumors ya’ll might of heard.  Right up until they fucking downsized about 75% of the jobs and consolidated their operations into one location in another state. And, then ultimately right out of the country altogether and back to France.

In that particular mind fugue…

There are those out there who cry out to warn all donkeys, liberals, moderates, as well as conservatives and elephants and other folks who don’t wanna see the country held captive y a person who is a narcissistic, misogynistic, racist, ill informed and ill mannered asshole as the prez of the USA, that they need to keep in mind that they need to vote for Hillary Billary… even the Bamster at a recent Massachusetts fund raiser told donkey faithful that they can’t let up on getting the vote out for Hillary Billary.

And, these peeps say to those who are reticent to support and possess their own hesitation blues about voting for Hills to spare them any of their well thought logic when they say… “I’ll vote for an independent because Americans need to move away from the two-party, corrupt system that’s ruining this country.”5 per cent

Why? Because they believe that type of thinking is just stupidity incarnate.

And, why is that? Because they will tell ya’ll if you are a self inclined independent then go right ahead. But understand, be aware and beware the elephants because they have no compunction to do likewise and they are banking on independently minded folks to go ahead and vote their damn principles.

They will then tell your ass that you need to face the facts… the system is what it is and it’s not ever gonna change. It’s been this way since the nation was founded. We’ve been pretty much a two-party system since Georgie was elected the prez and for at least the last 150 years or so have decidedly been a two party system. So, go ahead; go off and vote in your self-righteous snit; take your principled stance. But, as you vote your so-called conscience the elephants will be voting their party and fulfilling a destiny of taking the country into insanity and a new dark ages.

Bullshit and balderdash.

I won’t even get into the lies and the misdirections they try to foist upon you about how we have almost always been a two party system…  about how third parties have never really been an integral part of any election in the last century and a half… and…  instead ask… what the fuck is going on here?2 party demise

And, if, you come to the conclusion that neither party has a candidate that will serve the needs of what we the people actually need to live better and more full lives then vote your damn conscience. Vote for a blow against the empire of the two party system… of two parties who serve the same master but in succinctly and masterfully disguised ways…

One the so-called right, or conservative, wing fear mongering foil who warn about the fall of America from its manifest destiny of being a great country of a Christian god-fearing people who are fighting for truth, liberty and the American way…

The other the so-called left, or liberal, wing who say only they have the good of the country in mind …only they have the key to unlock the tools needed to give America… the working class and the middle class of America… a leg up so they can live better than any other Americans have ever lived.

But, when it all comes down I hope the reality doesn’t fall on you when the truth is found to be the same shit; different day.

Understand this… regardless of who is in power the two party system serves only one master… they both serve at the altar of the profits. Profits and who is in control of those profits. They answer to the same dog whistle … they may say they care about America, but, really? Just look around and see the mess we are in and then think how the hell did we get here?

And, when you ask that question… also ask… Do you have your own mind?  Do you believe that anything can happen and will happen if enough folks truly believe in the truth of their own hearts and their own beliefs? Then… if… so…

If, you have your own mind; if you believe you can think and make rational decisions, then listen to everyone and everything and make your own decisions. You are an individual who hopefully has the capacity to think for his, or her, self and with that you need to grab every piece of information, every nuance of datum, every jot of fact and even rumor… absorb it all… dissect it and parse it… grok it to the fullest of your abilities. Then, lining it up with your ethics… moral beliefs… your soul… select and chose your poison on how you will step inside the booth on Election Day and appoint your vote for… whomever.trump hill

According to many polls the percentage of we the people who think of themselves as independents is, and has been, at record highs for at least the last five years. In 2015, 42% of we the people said they were independents… free of any formal ties to either party… elephant or donkey.

As for them so-called major parties… The donkeys claim just 29% of we the people, an all time low point… and… the elephants are at 26%, which is very close to their all time low point.

Now, the elephants and the donkeys have chosen as their prez candidates, two people who are seen by the populace of America as being…. “This is what you offer me… this drek… these totally untrustworthy, unworthy, dishonest and unlikable peeps?”

In other words… the two parties have offered up two candidates who we the people see as unfavorable types.

Hillary Billary registers 53% percent unfavorable (vs. 42 percent favorable) and Trumpty Dumpty is at 61% percent unfavorable (vs. 33 percent favorable).

What’s a citizen to do? What can a person do in an effort to fulfill their patriotic duty and responsibility to choose the most responsible and the best person available to be the prez when all that is offered is drek? When all that there is, is a choice between bad or baddest… or… slightly evil and then very fucking evil… bad to the bone evil.

Many of you once you pull the curtain… or step into a booth… to ensconce yourself within the symbolic wall of privacy to cast your choice for the next prez will actually see at least three and some of you will see four and maybe more choices. Along with the elephant and donkey choices there will be the Libertarian nominee… Gary Johnson (who is now on the ballot in all 50 states and is polling close to 10% nationally) and the Green Party nominee… Jill Stein (on the ballot in 23 states and D.C. and has filed in 8 more and is polling anywhere from 4% to 6% nationally.)gary 2

You do have choices…

So don’t listen to the propaganda machines… when you vote… vote your damn fucking conscience and vote like ya’ll mean it… like ya’ll hold the future of America in your fingers… like your own personal life is at stake. Because…in a sense…it damn well is.

FYI… before I go onto other matters…

There is this factoid… in a recent poll using all four candidates… Hillary Billary got 45%; Trumpty got 31%, Johnson got 10% and Stein got 6%… with 8% still undecided…If, this trend holds up and them 8% who are undecided goes to either Jonson or Stein… it may not mean much for this year’s elections but it could will be the beginning of an impetus to carry over into future elections… both nationally and locally… that could begin the death knell for the two party system in America that has up to this point served none but the captains of industry… the 1%.

Girls are afraid of being killed…

Boys are afraid of being laughed at, but girls are afraid of being killed. Recently, a girl was shot in her school for refusing to date a boy. This is something that needs to change.girl fear

This is something I found whilst scurrying about the internet… from circa 8/2015…

The piece attached to this “quote” told of a story of a high school girl who refused a boys advances multiple times, until one day he said to her… I have a gun and if you don’t go out with me I will kill you.

She kept her mouth shut. Then at her first opportunity went to the principal’s office and told of the threat… the boy’s locker was searched and a gun was found in a back pack…

Afterwards, some of the other girls in the school told the girl… would it have hurt you to say yes… to go out with him? Now we all were endangered because of you.

And, some of the boys in the school… they said it was because of girls like her… cockteasers… that stuff like this occurs.

That’s the reality all too often for females in America. It starts when they are young and often… hell, most of the times… goes all the way through into their adult lives and even into old age.

As I scoured the internet for more info I found that the phase seems to have been used in different stories about females who were threatened with, or received, violence in return for refusing a male’s advances or request of a date. According to wikiquote it appears its origins originated from the book “Gift of Fearby Gavin De Becker with a few words missing or changed. The book which is published under its more formal title… “The Gift of Fear: Survival Signals That Protect Us from Violence” is a non-fiction self help bestselling book that offers strategies to help people avoid violence by attempting to teach about violence and it’s various warning signs. The actual phrase in the book appears on page 67 and it is… “At core, men are afraid women will laugh at them, while at core, women are afraid men will kill them.”

We need to face and understand the facts… there needs to be a change in America… there needs to be a reckoning of men’s images of women and what is acceptable and reasonable and what is not.jonathan law

Back in April 2014, there was a very horrible incident close to where I live… at Jonathan Law High School (Milford, CT) a teenage boy killed a 16-year-old girl because she said no to his request to be his prom date. The boy, also 16 years old, first shoved the girl down a flight of stairs; choked her and the used a kitchen knife to stab her in her neck. She was transported to a local hospital and was eventually pronounced dead.

This is not an uncommon reality for many women… maybe not always to the extent reported here, but, none the less it does happen all too often where a woman loses her life or is beaten to within inches of losing her life because she told a man “no.”

That type of obscene sexism needs to stop… but until we as a society… especially the male members of this society… work to eradicate sexism on all levels… it will never happen.  Violence against women for simply saying no will not ever stop completely.

Sexism needs to stop at the earliest and the very embryonic part of its very being. We need to recognize its insidious sneakiness and how it inserts itself into our daily lives… into almost every aspect of  daily life.

For instance…

I recently read that Katherine Heigl did an interview with Vanity Fair where she said that the comedy she was in… “Knocked Up”…  “paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it on some days. I’m playing such a bitch… why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women?”knocked_up_poster_header

Seth Rogen a co-star in the movie was on the radio jock Howard Stern’s show and said that “As we were making the movie, honestly, I was like, ‘I would make a dozen movies with her. I would be whatever shitty version of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan is. I thought we had a great dynamic, people seemed to like it, we were funny together, I was having a really good time, and then when I heard afterwards that she didn’t like it… your trust feels betrayed somewhat.”

Then Heigl did an interview with Stern and tried to clarify the remarks she made in the Vanity Fair interview… which essentially came out as she now faces criticisms for her words and it has impacted her career.

Stern’s thoughts? That maybe Heigl should call Rogen and apologize…

Double… Okayyyy….

Rogen also said at one point, “I respect the fact that maybe that perhaps she realizes it has hurt her career, and I don’t want that to have happened to her at all. Because I’ve said a thousand stupid thing, and really like her.”

Maybe I’m reading stuff into this all wrong but I think not.

This is exactly what I mean when I say we need to recognize the reasons sexism is in this society of ours and in fact is thriving so deftly we don’t even see it or understand it.

Sterns thinks Heigl should apologize for saying she thinks the movie… “Knocked Up”… depicts women in a negative light while men get depicted as happy go lucky schmoos who need to be cut a break. What is not said is that she dared to question the roles that Hollywood gives out to women. How could she… how could she have the audacity. Why that shrew…

And, Rogen says that he “respects the fact that maybe that perhaps she realizes it has hurt her career…”

Excuse me?

Instead of Rogen being objective and thoughtful, even insightful and saying… “Ya, know…Katherine has point… that movie really did kinda, sorta present show her character as this shitty ass bitch and maybe we do need more roles in movies that show women in a stronger and more adept light… fashion…or manner.”

Rogen & Heigl
Rogen & Heigl

Rather, it was something along the lines of … “I feel for the poor girl but maybe now she has learnt her lesson and will be a little wiser next time she opens her mouth about the industry that feeds her.”

Hell… all that’s missing is a shitty ass Brit accent, a cup of tea with his pinky extended from the cup and a monocle…

And, unfortunately, because of this shitty ass male dominated industry attitude, Heigl herself is even capitulating to that maleness as she bemoans the fact that she opened her mouth. That maybe she shouldn’t have said a word… she is defensive when she should be standing tall and saying I am woman hear me roar damn it all.

She capitulates to the male desires because she doesn’t fear her personal death but instead her death within the industry because now she appears as nothing but a troublesome woman who isn’t grateful for the opportunities that are bequeathed to her.

And, that’s the stuff that needs to stop. That type of subtle, insidious, sneaky ass, slimy sexism and how it permeates everything it touches whether we realize it or not.

Institutionalized discrimination… be it racism or sexism or any negative ism should not ever have a place in our lives.

When did watching become synonymous with shooting?

Chad Copley, a so-called and self-described  neighborhood watchman, who is white, called 911 and told a Raleigh (NC) cop dispatcher that  “We’ve got a bunch of hoodlums out here racing. I am locked and loaded. I’m going outside to secure my neighborhood.”

Later reports also said he told 911… “I’m on neighborhood watch. I’m going to have the neighbors with me. There’s hoodlums out here racing up and down the street. It’s 1:00 in the morning, um, there’s some vandalism. They have firearms, and we’re going to secure our neighborhood.”black man killed

Shortly after that call was made a shotgun blast was heard emanating from Copley’s garage and Kouren-Rodney Thomas, who is Black, was laying on the ground with a mortal wound.

Another call was placed to 911 by a woman and she put Copley on the phone…

“We have a lot of people outside our house, yelling and shouting profanities. I yelled at them, ‘Please leave the premises.’ They were showing a firearm, so I fired a warning shot and, uh, we got somebody that got hit.”

The 911 dispatcher asked, “Someone was shot?”

Copley said, “Well, I don’t know if they were shot or not, ma’am. I fired my warning shot like I’m supposed to by law. They do have firearms, and I’m trying to protect myself and my family.”

The dispatcher asked who was at his house.

Copley: “Ma’am, I don’t know who they are. There’s frigging black males outside my frigging house with firearms. Please send PD.”

Police responded with other emergency vehicles… they found Thomas seriously wounded; transported him to a hospital and he was pronounced dead.

Investigating officers and news media at the scene  pieced together that a party was going on about two houses down from Copley’s house.

A 16-year-old teen, who lives at the house where the party was being held, told the Raleigh News & Observer there were about 50 people there, with a mixture of folks inside and outside the house hanging in the front yard. Thomas arrived with a friend around midnight. The street was said to be serene… not much noise at all. The ten aid there was “No fighting and no arguing and no one waving guns.”

In fact, cops found no guns anywhere outside Copley’s premises or anywhere near Copley’s premises and reports indicate  there were never any guns evident at the party, either.

Copley was charged with first-degree murder and held without bail.

Copley could face the death penalty if he is convicted of the charge.

Chad Copley being arraigned

The situation is reminiscent of when Trayvon Martin was murdered by George Zimmerman in Florida…

Zimmerman called dispatch, identified himself as a member of the neighborhood watch and told them he was tailing a suspicious teen wearing a hoodie… dispatch told him to stand down and let cops handle the situation. Zimmerman ignored the advice… Martin was eventually shot by Zimmerman who said he was standing his ground according to Florida law. Zimmerman eventually walked on a charge of murder based on that defense… he was standing his ground… against an unarmed Black teen wearing a hoodie eating candy and slurping a drink.

I am having a problem grokking this entire Raleigh scenario… My essntail problem? Isn’t the operative word in neighborhood watch… or watch group… or… watch of any kind…the word “watch”?  I mean the way I understand watch is you passively watch and you then report the facts of your watching as you know them to cops… or to 911 and a dispatcher who then calls cops and directs then where to go so they can investigate. Shooting off firearms is not watching. Shooting off firearms is actively acting with potential deadly force that can, and sometimes does, eliminates a person’s life.  This in my book is kinda, sorta diametrically opposed to the passive action of watching.

Now what is even more scary and more tragic is this…

The neighborhood watch was all in Copley’s head. He never was a part of any neighborhood watch group

The Raleigh News & Observer found that Copley’s own neighbors said there is no neighborhood watch, and, that residents are specifically told by cops not to ever take matters into their own hands. In fact the closest thing to a Neighborhood Watch is something called the Neuse Crossing Homeowners Association, but, according to a spokes person, the Association has no authority to protect the neighborhood.  The spokesperson told the newspaper, “We do not give residents police powers at all. The homeowners association has certain responsibilities and obligations, and none of that can be construed as law enforcement. We can make you mow your lawn but not law enforcement.”

Another person interviewed by the newspaper said he was surprised to hear the man who called 911 tell the dispatcher that he was “locked and loaded.” He added that,”A neighborhood watch is just that: a watch. You don’t pack a gun and put on a badge like you’re a sheriff.”

Humph… like I said… watch is the operative word…

Nuff said…

Baltimore 5 UH, OH…

A year-long probe into Baltimore’s cop shops resulted in what is being called a damning Justice Department report.  The report says Baltimore cops target Black people and they then use excessive force in investigating mostly made up reasons for stopping those Black people… and the cops do so with carte blanche… or… almost total immunity from any disciplinary response from their superiors or from the city government. doj report

The report specifically said,  “Baltimore’s legacy of government-sanctioned discrimination, serious health hazards, and high rates of violent crime have persisted and compounded for years… making Baltimore a challenging city to police fairly and effectively.”

It also said that the “targeted policing of certain Baltimore neighborhoods with minimal oversight or accountability disproportionately harms African-American residents.”

Among the findings:

  • Blacks comprise 63% of Baltimore’s population, and, 86% of people charged with crimes.
  • Police reported 2,818 uses of force over a six-year period … but only 10 were internally investigated… and… only one case was ruled as excessive.
  • The Baltimore PD also encourages “overly aggressive tactics that unnecessarily escalate encounters, increase tensions, and lead to unnecessary force.”
  • The Baltimore PD “reported” more than 300,000 pedestrian stops between 2010 and 2015… (the report indicated in most situations the Baltimore PD actively engaged in underreporting most cases of police involvement.) Most of those stopped were in predominately Black neighborhoods, and most stops were done with no “reasonable cause.” baltimore PD

I feel some relief now…. I mean… I have been having a hard time grokking why the six Baltimore cops who were busted and charged with various crimes in Freddie Gray’s death were eventually found innocent by a so-called jury of their peers… or… a mistrial was issued… or… charges were eventually dropped.

But… now I see the reality. It’s all due to the institutional racism running rampant in the Baltimore Police Department… as well as probably within and throughout all other forms of the law enforcement hierarchy. From the street cops… to their superiors… to probably even the prosecutors within the court system.

I fervently hope any prosecutor worth his salt would vigorously and righteously prosecute any cop found egregiously violating any citizen’s rights… of practicing persistent and consistent police brutality.

But… maybe… they kinda, sorta didn’t.

I mean does anyone else got any other reason why a relatively healthy Freddie Gray would be thrown into a cop transport van and left unsecured… against specific departmental policy… and… then. found upon transportation to a city jail, to have serious injuries to his spine that required him to be hospitalized and ultimately wind up being dead? And, then, not one damn cop involved with Gray’s bust and transportation was convicted of any crime whatsoever? Please, tell me exactly how did Gray then get so seriously injured in that goddamn van that he would wind up being dead? Whose responsibility was it to make sure he got to where he was supposed to be in one unbroken and undamaged piece of human flesh and bone.gray protest

The police commissioner himself said that contrary to department policy, the cops did not secure Gray inside the van while driving to a local cop shop.

A medical investigation also concluded that Gray had sustained his spinal injuries while in transport and the medical examiner’s office said that Gray’s death was not an accident… it was purposeful…and… it was a homicide  due to cop’s mistreatment of Gray and failing to secure him safely in the transport van.

One more time not one of those damn cops were found guilty of any fucking damn anything?

How is that fucking possible?

Oh, yeah… stupid ass me… institutional racism run rampant and fucking cops protecting other cops who commit crimes against the people.

And, maybe a purposefully inept presentation of evidence by the prosecution for the people.

Let’s give them something to talk about…

  1. Hey, Joe. You wrote a tough blog but it needs to be said!

    1) election – I recall the Phil Ochs song, “Love me! I’m a liberal.” But any resemblance of the current Democrats to liberalism is as remote as the resemblance of the Republicans to conservatism. (Just ask Sanders and Rubio!) Personally, I am moving toward Jill Stein and the Green Party.

    2) treatment of women – I am the father of two daughters. They are middle-aged women now, but I have helped then through many discriminatory situations including sexual ones. They continue to face discriminatory actions and words. It is those who look human can show how nonhuman they are by their actions.

    3) neighborhood watches – One problem with our society is that guns represent power to far too many people. No way should a neighborhood watch person even be carrying a gun. But the number who do are testimony to how gun-sick our society is.

    4) police departments – I am aware of the argument that there are “good cops” and “bad cops.” But I’m not sure there are any good cops. If any cop has signed his or her name to a falsified report–even in the spirit of honoring “all cops must cover for each other”–that cop is not good. The feeling that cops should have each others back has gone far beyond the firefight, and directly leads to the human rights violations like the ones Baltimore was cited for. I doubt that there are any “good” cops.

  2. Jill Stein has my vote also.

And,I think I have to agree with you that at this point in time there are no “good” cops until the cops themselves start policing themselves and turn in, expose and denounce all cops who commit crimes against the people… the citizens.
