Villain and others announced for Thor: Ragnarok

Per Marvel.com We now have the Villian for Thor: Ragnarok

Now keep in mind I have not read the comics since the mid-90s, and if the words “The Ultimate Version” come out, I have no idea WTF they are doing (Also keep in mind the latest Fantastic Four reboot was the Ultimate Version)

So.

Cate Blanchett will be Hela, who is the Queen of the Dead, basically a Norse version of Pluto. In most tales, she is the daughter of Loki, who is also coming back with along with Tom Hiddleston

GrandmasterAlso in the movie is Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster- who like the Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy is a Elder of Universe. Wheras the Collector was obsessed with, well, collecting, the Grandmaster is obsessed with games. Always a fun guy to me.

Idris Elba as Heimdal and Anthony Hopkins as Odin are back, but Rene Russo is not announced, so she might be dead. No word on Sif, either- but they are adding Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. That could be a replacement for Sif, and also Natalie Portman is not on the list as well.

New additions are Karl Urban as Skurge and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/the Hulk. I guess Karl Urban is better than getting some crappy wrestler, but Batista worked well in Guardians of the Galaxy. I guess it’s a good thing we didn’t get Ryback as Skurge.

All in all, I’m not sure I like Jeff Goldblum. Cate Blanchett can pull off anything- see the Lord of the Rings, but it’s going to be interesting to see if they can pull Thor out of the basement of Marvel Movies with Ragnarok.
