Health is not negotiable… WTF 4/27

cartoon

Health…

… it does a body good. And health should not be a negotiable right that we the people should have to fight for but unfortunately it seems in this country… the USA… it’s a carrot the politicians like to wave in front of us to get our votes and then cruelly withhold after thy get in office and follow the wishes/money of the medical industry… Big Pharm… Insurance companies…

PSA

joe1Before I get onto the meat and potatoes of today’s WTF… I got a PSA to deliver… Public Service Announcement…

For all you peeps who be sitting on your asses and bitching about life and what a bad deal ya’ll been dealt…

So, wake the fuck already why don’t ya’ll? Get up off your ass and do something… regardless how small your contribution may be just fucking do something to help change shit.

Even, if, it’s as little as going out to vote for someone who is not of the political status quo… just vote for someone who you believe is not a lackey… a pitiful minion… of the 1%… it’s the minimum ya’ll could do, but, at least, it would be something, which is a hell of a lot more than what ya’ll are doing now… which is not a fucking thing.

But, if I were a betting a man I would bet ya’ll will just sit there bitching and moaning about what a fucking raw deal ya’ll just get and how the cards is always stacked against little peeps like yourself… the working man just ain’t  got no chance. True that… but… then if ya’ll ever do a damn thing, then, maybe ya’ll think ya’ll be getting what ya’ll deserve?

Ya think?

So… one more time… at least get off ya ass and cast a ballot if ya’ll do nothing else.

Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow… and… whatever you do in your life… big or small… try and make sure it contributes to us going forward as a species and not going back into the primordial goo from whence we once came…

With that thought… I give you this week’s WTF… a melange of the random thoughts going through my mind as I recall the past week’s news…

Another one bites the dust…

John Stossel, 69-years old and a television personality at Fox News Channel, recently announced in a missive he wrote on Fox News Opinion.com that he has lung cancer and then went into an Op-Ed that took deadly aim at the medical industry.stossel

He wrote… “My doctors tell me my growth was caught early and I’ll be fine. Soon I will barely notice that a fifth of my lung is gone. I believe them. After all, I’m at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. U.S. News & World Report ranked it No. 1 in New York. I get excellent medical care here. But, as a consumer reporter, I have to say, the hospital’s customer service stinks…”

He added, “I get X-rays, EKG tests, echocardiograms, blood tests. Are all needed? I doubt it. But no one discusses that with me or mentions the cost. Why would they? The patient rarely pays directly. Government or insurance companies pay.

“Customer service is sclerotic because hospitals are largely socialist bureaucracies. Instead of answering to consumers, which forces businesses to be nimble, hospitals report to government, lawyers and insurance companies…

And… he ends with this…

“Whenever there’s a mistake, politicians impose new rules: the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act paperwork, patient rights regulations, new layers of bureaucracy… Patients will have a better experience only when more of us spend our own money for care. That’s what makes markets work.”

Let me start with his last words…

That’s a crock of shit…  I pay enough money… as do all other Americans… in taxes already which could be funding my health insurance. So, guess what? I am paying my own money for health care already… the government just spends we the people’s money wrong… instead of taking care of we the people’s health, education and welfare, the fucking stunads, who are also known as our elected representatives, spend it building a bigger and “better?” war machine to go around fighting in wars that we have no business being in.

What was the cost of the Iraq war? A war that was entered into under false premises?iraq war cost

According to a study done by the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University and released in 2013… “The U.S. war in Iraq has cost $1.7 trillion with an additional $490 billion in benefits owed to war veterans, expenses that could grow to more than $6 trillion over the next four decades counting interest.”

Yeah… right. And, that doesn’t even consider the unnecessary lives lost. I need to ask what $1.7 trillion could of taken care of for we the people? Besides defending us against enemies that aren’t ours and fighting in wars we have no business being in?

Stossel rants, “… X-rays, EKG tests, echocardiograms, blood tests. Are all needed? I doubt it. But no one discusses that with me or mentions the cost. Why would they? The patient rarely pays directly. Government or insurance companies pay.”

Did he ever ask? Did he ever say why this? Why that? What the hell is going on here? And, if, he did and didn’t get an answer that was acceptable… did he go up the ladder and bitch some more… until he got an answer… that was acceptable?

I have… I did it when my mom was in the hospital… had to have a tumor removed from her stomach that would have killed her…

For the most part, my mom is a very simple person who gets easily intimidated by doctors…we all do on some level…  and… she sometimes needs me to help her decide some things when she gets a tad confused or overwhelmed… she’s in her eighties…

So, sometimes I had some very serious and damn stern discussions for the doctors who somehow tended to think their shit didn’t stink and that they could pull out their intimidation cards just because they got an MD and a bunch of other letters from the alphabet after their names.

Guess what? My mom’s got rights and as her son I meant to see them rights got respected… and in my mom’s situation I got power of attorney… and… I damn will ask them questions and they damn will answer the questions or I will go up the ladder until someone does.

It came to pass… she was given a procedure that I found out about only because I happened to be in the right place at the right time… for me… but not for them.  I asked why the procedure was done and if it wasn’t absolutely necessary to have it done… life or death… why was it done without consulting me and who’s paying? One of the residents in attendance said “You don’t care about your mother’s health enough to help pay for her hospital care…”

I had to summon up a lot to stop myself from cussing them out right then and there…. I did manage to say… with  a stare in my eye that was as cold as possible and as icy a voice as possible… “Some people don’t have as much money as some other people… Yes…I want to know about every procedure and what things cost and who pays for what…”

I got a visit from the head surgeon after that and we had a little discussion of our own… I made my case clear… nuff said.

As for the fact that Stossel said that someone pays your medical bills but you never get told the costs.

Very few folks ever get full freight… there’s always something that comes from your pocket… something in addition to the premiums you pay. Whether it’s copays or whatever…

Still… I want to see the damn bills. I want to see what costs what and how it gets paid for and what negotiations are going on behind the scenes that some poor sucker who ain’t got diddly squat has to pay full freight… Which, by the by, chances are he won’t, because he ain’t got a pot to piss nor a window to toss it out of… or… he’ll have to go into to hock… remortgage the house… sell his car…start taking the bus… maybe sell off his children one by one into indentured servitude…

But… maybe… Stossel never got one of them letters from any of his insurance providers that state at the very top of a long official looking statement that “This is not a Bill” and then it enumerates everything… procedures… doctors/hospital/lab visits you made…all that was charged to your insurance. It states clearly, in column 1, how much it would have cost had you no insurance; then, in column 2, what the good old insurance folks negotiated the cost down to and then in the last column what you… the patient… are gonna have to pony up…

This plan's cost estimate is $1.38 trillion per year.
This plan’s cost estimate is $1.38 trillion per year.

He never got one of them?  Or… is it that he too damn important and doesn’t open his own mail? So, maybe he just never sees the damn statements.

As a corollary to what I just iterated… once we put a stop to what should be the illegal marketing of medicines that could help hundreds of thousands… if not millions… of people from suffering needlessly with certain devastating illnesses… and… as soon as we put an end to insurance companies who are still making incredible profits despite improved health care laws… once we end this profiteering upon people’s health (or should I say poor health?) and the suffering from various maladies then a lot more consideration can be extended to the people side of health care rather than the paperwork and red tape side of customer service… we the people need to also do our part and squawk when squawking needs to be done and make sure peeps do  their jobs.

Listen up… doctors can be hired and they can be fired… if a doctor doesn’t measure up to what you think the standard should be… I don’t care if it’s making ya wait too long in the waiting room or won’t give you sufficient reason for why stuff needs to be done… then let him/her know and if he (or she) don’t change then get another doctor.

Hospitals are little tougher because let’s face it there are plenty of folks in there who just might have something a tad more serious than what ya’ll might be there for…so… sometimes ya just gotta wait your turn… and… if… it’s an emergency ya just may not get a choice where ya land due to one reason or the other, but, if, ya can then tell your ambulance crew where your druthers lay… then do it. But… if, it ain’t an emergency then find the best one for what ya need to get done and, then, plan and on getting your procedure done there… if ya can’t then just make sure ya got the right doctor doing the right procedure on ya.

Yeah, I know it’s tough and sometimes it’s damn intimidating… been there, for sure… but it is doable and it’s your damn right.

As far as inattentive peeps providing inadequate service… bad workers are everywhere… some peeps just don’t respect the fact they got a job and should always give their best effort to do the job the best that they can do. Yes, they may be underpaid… and disrespected by management.. still… if, you have a job to do  then it should be done to the best of your ability. I firmly believe that premise. I apply it to my own self daily… I’m not always 100% successful… but… I do try.

As Martin Luther King Jr. once said…  street sweeper

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”

As far as his bitch about over doing the paperwork, rules and regs and all the rigmarole involved that is written in seemingly indecipherable legalese?

I agree… and that shit needs to end… the laws, the rules, regs… all that stuff needs to be to be made so that all the bases are covered but streamline it and say it damn understandable English… (translated of course when needed…)

It’s supposed to be customer service not paperwork service. That much Stossel and I agree upon… the solution to the problem is something we disagree upon…

Bottom line? it just so happens that I’m fucking right on a lot and he is fucking wrong on a lot.

So there…

Calling NCIS…

Talking about wasted we the people money aka our damn taxes…

A U.S. Army airborne exercise in Germany happened to be videotaped and that videotape happened to find its way onto social media sites… it shows a military exercise going what appears to be in a normal fashion… 173rd Airborne Brigade flying across blue skies dropping military equipment by parachute… until… a Humvee breaks free of its rigging and plummets to the ground… followed by another… and another…humvee

Three Humvees… gone and wasted to the scrap heap…according to a Government Accountability Office report released in 2011 (and I’m sure the cost has gone up since then…not down) the U.S. military’s Humvee truck replacement is expected to cost the U.S. around $350,000 each, on average, before tacking on armor and any additional high-tech equipment… which when adjusted for those modifications the cost is estimated to be $600,000 or more.

Not lot by the estimations of some when all the costs of running a military is considered…but… still… that was over $1.8 million thrown down the shitter.

I personally don’t like that someone didn’t take enough precautions to make sure my tax dollars weren’t wasted because someone didn’t tighten a rope or connect a chain… or clamp… or whatever… properly. Ya wanna throw away $1.8 million? Then fucking throw it in my direction. I certainly could spend it better than letting it fall from the sky and crash to the ground into a pile of junk.ncis

And… just so ya’ll know… the Army says nobody was hurt, and it’s investigating what went wrong… and who shot the video.

Well thank goodness for that… no injuries or lives lost… and… the fact they all is right on top of things.

What’s that damn investigation gonna cost now?

Maybe they should bring in that crew from the NCIS show? They seem to always get their criminals by the end of the hour show.

Tiger by the tail…

About a week or so ago down in Conroe (TX) a couple… a dude and a dudette… was cruising down one of the city’s streets when they spotted something that quick as a bunny ran into some bushes… only it t’weren’t no bunny. It was much, much bigger.

One of the peeps got out of their vehicle to go check what it could be in the bushes… now I ain’t saying anything one way or the other but it was the male rep of the human species of the two folks. So, with his testosterone a blazing… off he went to… let’s let the female tell it… “(He) hopped out of the car and was like “I’m gonna catch it.”

Then, something unexpected occurred… cue  the dude… “Out of nowhere it took off running towards me, put her paws on my shoulders and started licking me in the face. I was really scared at first.”Conroe PD tiger

Ahem… Scared? How about… ya’ll about shit your drawers because I am here to tell ya’ll that is exactly what the hell I would have done if some big ass ginormous looking fucking tiger came busting out of some bushes, rushing at me and then decide to hug me with her paws.

I don’t give a fuck if it was only a baby at four or five months old. It’s a damn tiger and still probably a hell of a lot bigger than me… with paws the size of god knows what. Tah tgots claws as long as my fingers. Sharp claws. Long and sharp…

Just so it’s clear what went down and so ya’ll know it’s not normal to have tigers roaming around the streets down Texas way…

The tiger was evacuated from a rescue farm in nearby Harris County because of the recent rains and the resultant heavy flooding. The animal was supposed to stay at a “friends” house but the friend was unprepared for what he (or she) was getting into and assuming responsibility for… needless to say… being somewhat larger and a tad stronger than a puddy tat, the tiger soon found out it was able to get outside and decided to go checking out the local scenery…

The rest ya’ll know already…

Cops say at last report the tiger has “… been friendly, it seems tame. A little probably agitated because it’s in a different environment, but we have not had any problems at this time with the tiger.”

Yeah… the dude got “scared at first.” He means he did exactly what I would have done…he nearly fainted and shit his pants.

Never give up…

Back on April 23rd the prez… the good old Bamster… said that what the folks connected with Black Lives Matter movement has done a lot to highlight racial inequality… but… yep, even the Bamster got himself some buts…  he also said maybe they should try and tone down their words a bit and think about compromising on some of their goals

Black Lives Matter need to compromise
Black Lives Matter need to compromise

Specifically he said, “As a general rule, I think that what, for example, Black Lives Matter is doing now to bring attention to the problem of a criminal justice system that sometimes is not treating people fairly based on race, or reacting to shootings of individuals by police officers, has been really effective in bringing attention to problems.

Here comes the “but”…

“One of the things I caution young people about, though, that I don’t think is effective is once you’ve highlighted an issue and brought it to people’s attention and shined a spotlight, and elected officials or people who are in a position to start bringing about change are ready to sit down with you, then you can’t just keep on yelling at them.” Obama said.

Obama went on to say that people have a “responsibility to prepare an agenda that is achievable… (and)… sometimes need to take half a loaf that will advance the gains that you seek, understanding that there’s gonna be more work to do, but this is what is achievable at this moment.”

Now back in February some Black Lives Matter folks met with Obama and he praised their “degree of focus and seriousness and constructiveness.”

However… it seems some folks weren’t real damn overjoyed about that meeting…

For instance… Aislinn Pulley, co-founder of Black Lives Matter in Chicago didn’t go and essentially said it was all a crock… and… wrote in a column that going to meet with the Bamster… the man in the white house, the rep of the establishment… would only “legitimize the false narrative that the government is working to end police brutality and the institutional racism that fuels it.”

Ya think he doubts that enough effort is being made by them who is in control?  Maybe a slight, teensy bit?

Yep…America

Me? If, I’m a member of Black Lives I take the road that “No, I will not tone down my rhetoric because without it, ya’ll in power will just give lip service and do a little of this and a little of that and then hope to hell all the noise dies down and everyone eventually goes their merry way and forgets why the fuck they were yelling and screaming in the streets in the first place. That voice of organizations, like Black Lives is needed… is necessary… to keep the movement for full justice for all on the front burner… that the goal is to stop police brutality… at all levels… for all of we the people…

Yes, there is a need for some folks to go meet with law makers and to try and get things done… legally and lawfully changed… but… never, ever should voices that cry out for justice and freedom ever be silenced.

If, that were the case… if we back during the civil rights movement and anti war movement said “OK… we got their attention now, it’s time to sit back and wait for them to take action.” Guess what… nothing would have ever happened.MLK

The civil rights movement would have been set back probably another fifty or so years.

And… we would have stayed in Vietnam a lot longer and lost a lot more lives and spent a lot more money than we had already wasted.

Everything and everybody has a purpose… some purposes are meant to be loud and strong… to shout out the need for freedom and justice so folks never forget what still needs to be done… that the journey for true freedom and justice for all is far from over… there a miles and miles and miles yet to be traveled.

Suicide is painless… no… it’s not…

Saw this article the other day in the NYDN… it’s not that long… I present it here in almost its entirety…

“Members of an anonymous forum dedicated to Fairfax, Va., gossip may have cyberbullied a female firefighter who died in an apparent suicide in Shenandoah National Park.nicole

Multiple posts from December 2015 targeted Nicole Mittendorff with derogatory name-calling of a sexual nature. On April 13, the 31-year-old’s body was found more than a week after she failed to report to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Police found a suicide note in her Mini Cooper, which was parked a mile from the site where her body was discovered.

Fire Chief Richard Bowers acknowledged a scattering of disparaging forum posts that referred to several female paramedic-firefighters, including Mittendorff, as “slut.” He pledged to investigate the harassment.

The derogatory posts from unidentified users continued even after news broke that authorities had found Mittendorff’s body.

(Chief Bowers said) “We at Fairfax Fire and Rescue are aware of the posts and are looking into the matter… I assure you that my department cannot and will not tolerate bullying of any kind.”

That’s it… that’s it for what was in the Daily news… however…

Someone feels so damn threatened by a woman being their equal that they have to resort to threatening and bullying the woman. And… on top of being an asshole bully… they had to do it under the cloak of online anonymity…

I am sorry that the woman became so distraught because of these pukes actions and I wish she had been able to go somewhere for help… but… for whatever reason… it seems she felt no help was available. And that is another tragedy… a damn fucking tragedy that a person can be so bullied and terrorized that they feel there is nowhere to go… to turn to… no way out… so they choose death.

But the initial tragedy is that these bullies exist and do what they do… how in the name of humanity… of anything decent… do peeps think it is okay to demean a person for any reason… color of skin… choice of religion… their sexuality… or… for being a woman who dared to choose as her profession a previous bastion of men.

One more time… these pukes felt so terrified of a woman… these big bad men…. were so scared of the fact a woman might do their job better than them that they hid their selves under a white sheet called the internet and bullied her death.

Fucking damn cowardly assholes is what they really are… nothing more than terrorists. I thought they were big bad men… yet… they can’t confront a so-called unequal woman face to face.

What day was it???

Were you in Alabama on April 25th? Trying to get something done at some sate office or something?

Problem was ya’ll couldn’t because a lot of shit was closed.

Why was that, ya ask?

April 25th ain’t even the tax return deadline day…

Try this… it was Confederate Memorial Day… meaning state offices and courts are closed in honor of those who fought and died for the Confederacy during the Civil War. While “celebrated” here and there throughout the South, only Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi designate the last Monday in April as Confederate Memorial Day.post

All I can say is this… this dumb shit needs to stop… the confederacy is done and over with and was bad business from the get go. It was never a formal government no matter what some peeps may say. It was never recognized by any foreign government as a country… so…let it lie in its ashes and excrement and be dead and buried and left alone in the history of our country as chapter to a sad time when certain people tried to use other people as property and slave labor.

This is from the same guy who did the cartoon that fronted today’s WTF…

A last word…

I’m probably gonna piss off some folks… but… then… that’s nothing new with me and with stuff I got to say… but… this time it’s probably gonna be folks who lean a lot closer to the way I lean politically and sociologically speaking-wise.primary-and-caucus-7-638

Lot of folks been bitching about the primaries.. .and that’s nothing new, either… but, frankly, I gotta bone to pick about some of what some of the left leaning… mostly indie voters and peeps who tend to be Bernie supporters… be all bitching about. Specifically… they are pissed that independent voters can’t vote in some state primaries.

Why’s that?

Because some of the primaries are closed… that is… unless you are a registered donkey or elephant ya’ll can’t vote in the primaries to decide either party’s candidate for prez. Some folks think that’s wrong because it leaves the indies without a voice in a so-called democratic process.

I don’t…

Why?

Because… now. listen up so ya’ll can grok this… it’s the donkeys deciding who their candidate for the presidential election is gonna be and it’s the elephants doing the same for who their candidate is gonna be. It’s not a fucking free-for-all where everybody gets to vote…

THAT’s called the general election where we vote for the candidates on the ballot or write in our own choice.

If, indies want a candidate of their own, then maybe they ought to start a party of their own…

But, then I guess that sorta defeats the purpose of being an indie doesn’t it? I mean if they did that then they kinda, sorta wouldn’t be any more… huh?

two partyHere’s the deal if anyone wants to change the way a party’s system is run then they have to be part of that system and change it internally… its kind a like this…its their party and they can run it like they want to…

Ya wanna change how its run? Then become a part of their organization and fight to change it. Otherwise… ya can bitch all ya want but it ain’t gonna change. Simply, because there is no reason for it to change. Ya feel that strongly about it? Then join up and give it a reason. Enough peeps do that who are of the same inclination and… wowzers… ya just never know… shit might change… system

But truth? What this country needs is for there to be other viable parties in the country that run other candidates that give we the people other choices… more choices than just the two party system gives us. Two partys who say essentially the same damn thing… it’s just one is sort like Bud and the other is Bud Light.

Look, I been an indie for all my life… never bothered me all that much that I couldn’t vote in any of my states primaries. If, I wanted to vote in Connecticut’s primary, then I have to be a part of one party or the other and I never wanted either label attached to my name.

PoliticalPartiesLogosAnd truth be told? There are other parties in America… go check them out and see what their people have to say… ya never know… might be something more to your liking or way of thinking. If, more people opened their eyes and their minds to other ways of thinking than what the status quo (some folks say 1%) just serves us from day to day… month to month… year to year… then maybe that change that we all keep hoping will come, will eventually come a lot fucking sooner.

As far as I am concerned… let them have their cluster fuck called the primaries and nominate who they want… AND… when the time comes I’ll do as I always do… vote for somebody…

But, when the time comes to vote, I will tell you this… my vote will not be for an elephant nor will it be for a Clinton…

And, another thing… dag rabbit…

If, the Trumpster wins the elephant primaries and wins enough delegates to be the candyman for the elephants in November, then the fucking elephants better let him be their candyman.  No shenanigans…

When he bitched about the primaries and how it could wind up going to the convention as an open convention or contested convention, all the damn elephant leadership, and other peeps running, said he shoulda read the rules…stop-trump-720

Well… if, he does get enough votes and the corresponding delegates then he should get the party’s nomination…

As of 4/27 Trumpster has 950 delegates… an elephant needs 1,237 to get the party’s nomination…. there are 622 delegates left up for grabs… Trumpster needs 287 to get to the needed threshold… is there anything Trumpster could say… that he hasn’t already said?… that could not allow him to get enough delegates?

I don’t think so…

It’s in the rules right? Sauce for the goose is sauce for the ganders…

If, they don’t then they is a bunch of lily livered hypocrites….

But, what else is new? They been proving that fact for the last eight years…

 Another thousand words…
