Lets keep in mind that this is not a full breakdown of everything GOT, but more a primer of what has happened and what you need to know moving forward. (Example, the whole Drago storyline and Viserys? Not really needed since that’s a dead thread and everyone involved is dead.)
There are also a ton of minor players who will get their treatment.
Again, keep in mind, neither EJ or David have read the books, and don’t be that asshole that spoils the series for no reason but evil glee. What the hell is wrong with you? So if we miss something IN THE SHOW, by all means let us know.
Today we go through the Faith Militant group, The High Sparrow , Septa Unella and Lancel Lannister.
The High Sparrow
Seemingly coming from nowhere, the High Sparrow showed up and took down the Religious leader of the Seven in a brothel. The High Septon went to Cersei to demand justice. Cersei basically blew him off and gave the High Sparrow information and power to arm themselves. The High Sparrow has used this information to imprison Queen Margaery and her brother Loras, and even Cersei herself. As far as we have seen, the High Sparrow is pious and honest, but is fully aware of his growing power when the Queen of Thorns came to get her grandchildren. The High Sparrow is consumed by his faith, and will do anything to cleanse the Seven Kingdoms.
Earl: The High Sparrow has a ton of power right now. He and his followers control Kings Landing, but you can’t help but feel that it’s only temporary with him. He had a real chance to crush Cersei and it all fell short. Yes, he humiliated her, and knocked her down a bit, but he didn’t knock her out. She’s still around, her son sits on the throne, and even though she hates Margaery, the Tyrell’s are still on her side (albeit in name only). The High Sparrow might bluster a ton this season, but he’s going to be gone by season’s end. That’s my call, anyway.
David: The High Sparrow is a true believer, but I think he overstepped what he could do when he tried to take down Cersei. Had he not done that, who knows what he could have accomplished, but again, he didn’t have a choice when he saw evil. That’s going to bring him down, being a True Believer and trying to wipe out evil is a nice concept, but impossible as long as free will is involved. I don’t think the High Sparrow can turn Kings Landing to a police state just yet.
Could be considered the Chief Nun of the group, its not known if she is the number 2 of the High Sparrow or just the highest ranking female. She is in charge of Cersei while she is imprisoned, and when Cersei does her Walk of Atonement, Unella is the one who walks behind her yelling Shame as she rings a bell.
Earl: Septa Unella and her shame chant was a good moment in Season Five. It really was. However, Season Six? She has got to die. Cersei is free and I would think one of her first acts of revenge would be on Unella.
David: She Dead. Period. Trust me on this. There is a person in the seven Kingdoms that Cersei wants dead more than Septa Unella right now, and yes, I’m including Sansa in this one.
Lancel is an odd character, not overly important, but the story would be dramatically different without him. Lets go down the list.
1) Being Cersei’s cousin, he’s made a squire of the King, Robert hates him, cause he’s not manly enough, but as a glorified cup-bearer, he’s able to give Robert too much/drugged wine to slow King Robert down, leading to Robert’s death.
2) When Jamie left for war, moved up to Cersei’s lover, got caught and blackmailed by Tyrion.
3) Wounded in the battle of Blackwater Bay, Cersei ignores him when he wants Joffery to inspire the troops in the final battle, this is the last time we see him before he joins the faith militant
4) Is one of the more physical members of the Faith Millitant, beating the High Septon
5) Confesses his sins to the High Sparrow, and this gets Cersei arrested.
Earl: Lancel Lannister has had an interesting time on this show, hasn’t he? He’s helped murder a King, slept with the Queen who is also his cousin, and now he’s part of the Faith Militant bent on tearing the family down. Interesting guy. Not sure how much Lancel has to do in Season Six but it would be cool if he was some sort of double agent. Playing up to the Faith, but also leaking information to someone to help tear them down. Who wouldn’t mind a Lancel/Lady Olenna alliance? Or Lancel and Littlefinger?
David: Cersei is going to kill him. Not directly, most likely the Zombie Mountain is going to pop his head like a grape. If Lancel states Cersei and he killed Robert, Cersei is a gonner, if Lancel admits to the affair, then that lends weight to the whole twincest and Tommen is a bastard Lannister argument, that not only brings down Cersei, but Tommen as well. Cersei is going to kill Lancel ASAP, or she’s a dumbass, family or no family.
