Lets keep in mind that this is not a full breakdown of everything GOT, but more a primer of what has happened and what you need to know moving forward. (Example, the whole Drago storyline and Viserys? Not really needed since that’s a dead thread and everyone involved is dead.)
There are also a ton of minor players who will get their treatment.
Again, keep in mind, neither EJ or David have read the books, and don’t be that asshole that spoils the series for no reason but evil glee. What the hell is wrong with you? So if we miss something IN THE SHOW, by all means let us know.
Today we hit one of the biggies in the show in Cersei Lannister, plus her inner circle in Grand Maester Pycelle, Qyburn and Gregor Clegane.
Grand Maester Pycelle
Pycelle has been in Kings Landing forever, and has been a member of the Small Council and advisor to the past several Kings and Hand. He’s been loyal to Cersei since basically the beginning of the show, even though he’s a bit of a coward. Tyrion, when he was Hand, discovered he couldn’t trust him and threw him in jail. Pycelle repaid Tyrion by claiming that the poison that killed King Joffery were stolen from his office. When the Mountain is poisoned in the duel with the Oberlyn Martel, Pycelle states he can’t do anything but give him the painkiller Milk of the Poppy to ease his pain until he dies. Qyburn says he can save the Moutain, but Pycelle objects saying Qyburn was thrown out of being a Maester due to unknown experiments. When Cersei is jailed by the High Sparrow, Pycelle brings in Kevan Lannister to run the Kingdom. While he’s no longer as important as he was, Pycelle is still in the Red Keep when we last saw him.
Earl: Pycelle is awesome. He’s conning them all with his ancient old man act. He’s fit, spry, and mentally sharper than some of the opponents he is playing against in the Game. With that said, I wouldn’t be suprised if he allies himself closely with Kevan Lannister to first freeze out Qyburn, and then to isolate Cersei. Pycelle won’t be the last man standing when all is said and done, but I won’t be too surprised if he ends up surviving the Game of Thrones.
David: I love Pycelle, he’s trying to fool everyone, as we saw when he was in Littlefingers Brothel, even his walk is fake. The smartest ones like Tyrion see through him, as did Tywin in a deleted scene (go find it) . I think he’s not as smart as he thinks he is, but he’s dangerous, you don’t outlast almost a half-dozen Kings by being stupid. I think its going to be fun seeing what happens between Pycelle and Qyburn, as Qyburn basically has replaced him due to his efforts with the Mountain.
He used to be a Maester somewhere, but was thrown out of the – , well, I guess we could call it a Guild, for medical experiments that went against the order. He was brought in to save Jamie Lannister after he had his hand cut off, and this brought him with Jamie to Kings Landing. He did such a good job of staving off infection Cersei asked him to take a look at the Mountain after his duel with Oberlyn Martel. He does save the Mountain’s life, but it’s changed the Mountain to an unknown degree. In gratitude, Cersi had Qyburn named the new Master of Whispers on the small council.
Earl: I’m not too crazy about Qyburn. Yes, Cersei loves him, and yes Roose Bolton is also a backer, but that’s about it. That might be enough to keep Qyburn around, but I won’t be too stunned if he’s slowly manuevered out of the way. He might have the Mountain as a trap card to play, but I think he’s not smart enough to play the Game.
David: Oh Qyburn. Just a spooky dude, and you have to think he’s going to be dangerous at the end. I get the feeling he’s not as loyal as say Pycelle, and might just be in this for the science of it. He’s still creepy as hell, but I don’t think I’d give him any power, but I certainly would want him on my team. The more Qyburn I get, the better I like the show.
The Mountain the Rides. The older Clegane brother is a rough and evil sumbitch. The only people that we have heard of ever being able to stand up to him is his younger brother, Sandor Clegane, The Hound, and Oberyn Martell, who was beating him in a duel until he made a mistake and Martell’s head was popped like a grape. The Mountain is just downright evil, having been the one that killed Elia Martell and her Children during Robert’s Rebellion. Oberyn was able to wound the Mountain with poison, and when Maester Pycelle could do nothing, Cersei turned to Qyburn to save him, he did, as the Mountain is back up and going, but Qyburn says that the Mountain has taken a vow of silence and joined the Kingsguard, so we don’t know if a brain is still inside that massive helmet.
Earl: The Mountain is apparently some zombie of some sort. Qyburn is an evil mad scientist, and he is going to definitely have the Mountain around in some capacity. I don’t expect a big role for Gregor Clegane but he will show up at some point in Season 6.
David: This is one of the most vile characters in the seven kingdoms, and the worst thing he did was years before the show started. It’s going to be fun to see what happens to the Mountain, he’s kind of been in the shadows, more a threat than an actual person, and to be honest with you, I wasn’t that impressed with him seeing him fight when we did. Kind of those giant men that isn’t hard to outsmart. That being said, this new ZombieMountain should be more upfront than before, and I’m sure seeing him drop his helmet to see his face is going to be a big moment.
Cersei Lannister is the wife of King Robert, and the mother of Kings Joffery and Tommen. Cersei has hated Robert since he called out another woman’s name on thier wedding night. The children are all from Cersei’s twin brother Jamie, whom she has carried on a relationship with for years. Cersei may have started all this by having Robert killed before he found out the truth about their children, but we are not sure, but Lancel talked as if she had a hand in it. Cersei was told by Maggie the Frog, a witch, that she would see all 3 of her children die, and she has two die so far, Joffery in her arms and Mycella died last season, but Cersei doesn’t know yet. Cersei has always hated her brother Tyrion, blaming him for her mother’s death in childbirth, and placed a bounty on his head as she thinks he killed Joffery. Cersei tries to act as Hand of the King for her son, King Tommen, but is met with mixed results and she allows the Faith Militant to arm themselves, and also allows them to arrest Loras and Queen Margaery and only halfheartedly follows her son Tommens order to get the Queen freed. Even worse, when Cersei is leaving, she is stopped and arrested, as Lancel Lannister has confessed their incestuous relationship while Jamie was away. Cersei is kept in the dungeon for some time, before confessing her sins with Lancel, and the High Sparrow allows her to return home until the trial. Cersei completes the Walk of Shame from the Faith Militant’s headquarters to the Red Keep, naked while Septa Unella rang a bell calling out “Shame” during the route. When she arrives at the Keep, she’s covered in filth from the crowd and her feet are bleeding.
Earl: Cersei Lannister is the chick you love to hate. Not sure how many Cersei fans exist in this universe, but I doubt there are many. Season Five saw her imprisoned, without Jamie who was sent to Dorne, and without many friends. She’s completely isolated and with the power of the Faith Militant running around in Kings Landing, she might be ripe for the fall. However, this is Cersei we are talking about. Season Six might show her falling even more, but I doubt that fall will be quiet. Buckle up.
David: Me! I love me some Cersei. I wouldn’t want to be married to her or anywhere near her, but I loves me some Cersei. The hard part of Cersei is she is Tywin’s daughter. She puts her family first and she is all about making sure her enemies know the Lannister Lion is better than any other house. She takes pride in her house, as she should, but Tywin knows the gold mines are dry, and the house is a giant with feet of clay. The problem for Cersei is she will make a giant step forward with no plan B, and that’s her biggest problem. She gets laser-focused on one thing and misses everything else. Littlefinger puts Sansa up north? She lets him live to go get her, even though the Boltons secured Joffery’s throne, and Littlefinger is the reason she is up there. Mycella is solidifying Dorne? So, go get her. Marriage to the second strongest house? Don’t care as that would put her as the number 2 queen bitch instead of HQIC (Head Queen in Charge). Cersei is a classic missing the forest for the trees. Going forward, I look to Cersei to go after the High Sparrow with full venom, and this will cost her more than she is willing to pay. I look for this to be the season she either is sent away to the Rock or Die- either before or after Tommen.
