Open letter to Lamar Odom

I’ve been a little busy lately and I haven’t been posting at my usual pace but recent developments in Lamar Odom’s condition (and more free time than I’ve had in a while) have me wanting to blog……so here it goes.

Dear Lamar,Lamar Odom

You’ve been showing major improvement recently and that’s nothing short of a miracle…..truly it is and I’m not particularly religious and never really believed in them to be totally honest. You don’t know me and we’ve never met…..and you most likely will never read this but please get help.

A lot of people don’t get the chance you have before you. You have overcome more obstacles than most people ever should have to in their lives. To get a second chance is very rare and there are many people that have passed on that would say I’m right. As far as all the haters that have been posting on social media condemning clearly don’t know what it’s like to battle drugs or alcohol. While I’ve never battled the demons an addiction can bring, I have seen people and known people that have. It’s never over, it’s a day to day struggle. You need to surround yourself with a good support group. And I’m not talking about your posse or crew that are only around when the money, booze, and drugs flowing. Check yourself into the Betty Ford clinic and get the help you so desperately need.

Your NBA career may be over but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a productive post-NBA life. Time Warner is seemingly hiring every player that has ever played in the Purple and Gold to be a part of their Laker coverage. And your kids…..focus on them. Family is all that really matters in this life we live. Not fame, money, material things, or anything else. Life is precious and oh too short….

Not to sound all like it’s A Wonderful Life………but it is.

Don’t waste it.

Big time sports fan of the Lakers, Raiders, Angels and Dodgers. From 1990-1995, I worked at the Glendale News-Press and I had a blast. I covered mainly high school sporting events and Glendale Community College athletic events, but also attended Dodgers, Raiders, and Rams games. I also write for Joel Huerto (former co-writer and editor at the GNP) at I watch a lot of sports on TV (basketball, football, usually just postseason MLB) and UFC.
