Tommy Boy has seen his wins drop every year for the past 4 years. His owner isn’t happy, and let’s just say the win-now mandate is going to worry the coach more than the GM who is giving him the groceries. The Giants, oddly enough don’t have an offensive problem- ranking #10 in the NFL, and with Eli throwing passes to Odell Beckham, everything should be fine. Manning cut his interceptions from 27 to 14 last year- not bad for a 6-10 team. The issue is running the ball- a formerly Giant staple. Rashad Jennings is the incumbent, but how long will he be the top guy who only gained 639 yards behind Andre Williams, who is still there, but not exactly a rousing success as a rookie. . Shane Vereen is over from New England to try and become a focal point. Whomever comes through, or joins the committee, will have a pretty good line in front of them. Ereck Flowers should be able to slide into RT from day 1, Justin Pugh bumps to a more natural position at LG, who bumps down to center. Geoff Schwartz comes off the injury list to complete the reshuffling. Will Beatty is the only one who isn’t moving- in more ways than one.
The Defense is the issue, 29th in the NFL last season. The good news is 6 starters return, the bad news is the 5 that are gone include Antrel Rolle, who is as good as they come when looking for a dependable captain. Personal Favorite Jon Beason is still here, but still has injury issues. Speaking of guys who need to play like they did 5 years ago, Jason Pierre-Paul might be on the chopping block after this year. The Giants brought a LOT of bodies to camp on both the defensive line and the secondary- and need someone, ANYONE to step up. Last year those that were good were hurt, those that were healthy were not very good.
Before starting these, I was a big Giants booster, I thought they were a dark horse, not anymore. That offense could be a top 8 in the NFL, but that defense is going to be clipping them in the wins dept.
I’ll give them 2 wins in the NFC East, just because, but I cannot give them more than 2 wins vs the NFC South and only 1 win vs the AFC East- since they go to Miami. Bonus games vs Minny and SF are not going to help matters, since both of those teams have offensive talent and should be able to control the clock.
I’ll go 5-11, but 7-9 might be more accurate, but I’ll stick with 5-11, and a new coach.
