It’s all about the critters in the news… large and small.. human and animal… and, then there’s Trump…

Sorry…  I had to bring him into the discussion sooner or later…

Tazing old blind folks in Merry Olde England… monkey-newspaper_

Baby saved in Brooklyn from inferno… firefighter heroics… no cape required…

Fawning over some other babies in Omaha…

And, a tribute to a race car driver…

Its all happening this week at the zoo… ummm… I mean in the news at WTF….

Don’t taze me, bro…

News item… “British police hit a 61-year-old blind man with a Taser after they mistakenly believed his white stick was a samurai sword.”

joe1Colin Farmer decided to take a stroll down to his local pub to meets some friend and toss back a pint or two…

At the same time the local cop shop got a call saying a man was roaming the streets while brandishing a samurai sword…

Officers were dispatched…

Mr. Farmer...
Mr. Farmer…

The constables come upon Farmer tapping his way down to his pub and asked him to stop and identify himself… or whatever they do in jolly old England…

I mean after all it’s obvious a 61-yrear-old gent walking around with a white stick tapping the ground is definitely suspicious activity…

Farmer didn’t respond… at least not fast enough for one of the constables liking… he yanked out his taser and shot the old man full of 50,000 volts… then he… the cop… knelt on the man’s back and handcuffed him as he lay dazed and confused on the ground.

This happened in 2012 according to the news report I read…

As of Thursday (8/20), legal action brought by Farmer against the Lancashire Police was settled for an undisclosed sum, subject to court approval.

Maybe it’s just me… but… I hope that Farmer dude took them to the woodshed and stuck it to them…

I mean… got his just desserts money wise…

However…

In the interest of fair play, and, simply because I just hadda know, I checked out a whole slew of pictures of blind people’s walking sticks/canes and samurai swords and cane swords…

cane sword

hanwei-skull-swords-canesamurai-for-blind-630x480

And ya know what?

How in the hell does anyone mistake a blind man’s cane for a fucking samurai sword?????

I just can’t finds any evidence what would make me think seeing a dude walking along, tapping the ground in front of hisself could possibly be mistakened for a damn sword waving personage of any kind if’n ya’ll wanna know what I really think…

Oh yeah, the cops did later bust a dude… a 27-year old man… in connection with the sword reports but released him without charge.

Hmmm…

Gotta wonder… he get tazed, too? Or is it only old men with white canes who the cops over in Lancashire think a threat to their and the public’s safety?

I mean that’s a reasonable question, right? All things considered…

Fish don’t matter?

I’m sure most of ya’ll if not all of ya’ll been reading up on the dude that went and killed that lion in Africa… as well as other stories about other dudes… and dudettes…. who go out doing what is called trophy hunting… usually armed with something more than just their bodies and a good old sharp buck knife…

And, if’n ya’ll been reading any of that stuff then ya’ll know that it’s usually been in accordance with words that describe all sorts of peeps getting their panties in a bunch and having themselves a good old uproar over the fact that this it is effectively unwarranted and senseless killing of life…

And, to an extent, I tend to lean towards that side of the things… I subscribe to the fact that people-folk should not go around hunting for the sake of just hunting to get themselves a trophy to hang in their den or lay on their floor…

But… then I come along a story… and before we go on… I just gotta say this is not the gratuitous photos section… that comes at the end… ya’ll know that… Any ways… I come along this story about this beauteous vision of feminine pulchritude holding up dead fish…

… Or are they trophy fish?

Anyways… the gist of the story I read went along kinda like this…

“A stunning female angler has got her fans hooked by posting sexy snaps online of her battling massive fish — including an 8-foot bull shark. Darcie Arahill, 26, is a reel catch as she battles deep-sea monsters on a 23-foot boat wearing nothing but a bikini. The tanned and toned blond babe uses her incredible skills to reel in tuna, swordfish and Mahi Mahi off the coast of Florida. With her heady mix of good looks and expert tackle tips, Arahill, from Boynton Beach, has a following of almost 100,000 fans on the Web. To date, her biggest haul was an 8-foot-long bull shark, which she fought for over an hour…. ‘That was a real fight, but I won in the end.’ ”

Now to be fair to Arahill, she does state… “I put him back in the ocean, as I do with all of the protected species. But most of the time we fish to eat.”

And ya know what? I got no problem with that… at least the eating part… but… all of that stress of the fish fighting against that hook and line has gotta really stress the animal out… so… even if she puts… or anyone for that matter… puts them back in the sea… isn’t the chance still there for that fish to succumb to its stress and either kick the bucket and dive deep into Davy Jones’ locker, or, not be able to fend for itself and just wind up being a helpless target of some prey when it normally would have had an even shot of fleeing from the jaws of a predator.

Now… I have heard tale that as long as you do it right that after you catch a fish you can safely return it to the water…

But… ya know what? You fight a damn fish for an hour or more, then, I think it takes more than a few minutes of swishing it in water so the water passes through the gills to refresh… or re-oxygenated… or whatever… the fish. And, then thinking the fish is recovered sufficiently to be totally safely released… if, in fact it canat all..

Sooo… I just wanna know…

All the animal lovers out there that say all life matters? Fish lives don’t?

This is all ok and there is no abashed uproar because it’s just a fish as opposed to a land animal like a lion… a tiger… a bear … oh my????

For a child, you go above and beyond…

This past Monday (8/24), a Brooklyn firefighter went into a burning Brooklyn building and saved a 2-year-old boy. fire scene

Lt. Victor Milukas said that although there was zero visibility and high heat and that he only had a general idea where the tot was… “I just kind of took a chance and figured, ‘I’m gonna have to check this room.’”

He found the unconscious toddler by feeling around beneath a clothes pile.

The child was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital and placed in a medically induced coma, but, his dad (a registered nurse) says he expects his son will pull through… “He’s critical, but the prognosis is much better. He only has a blister and smoke inhalation.”

NYFD got the call at 1:13 a.m. and encountered a “very chaotic scene” and a house filled with smoke when they arrived…

Milukas said… “People (were) yelling that the baby was still inside. There was a neighbor who had climbed up on a front porch roof and was attempting to enter the building by removing the air conditioner.”

So he went into the inferno, as did his firefighting mates, and, said he couldn’t find the child anywhere… he retraced his steps to a spot where there was still high heat and broke into a bedroom with a mattress burning away…

Then, in what he says was a surreal reality… he found a pile of clothes, felt around found what he thought was a lifeless body… scooped it up and dashed out into safety…

The medics took over from there…baby and firefighter

Milukas, an 18-year veteran of the FDNY said… “Every life is precious, but you know, for a child, you go above and beyond.”

I don’t give enough credit to the great job that firefighters do…

So, all those times I didn’t… this time I do…

Thanks guys and gals for all that you do… I appreciate that your goal in life is to save lives by fighting fires and by running into danger… when all others would reasonably flee… to rescue a life…

“This was not a subject that was on anybody’s mind until I brought it up at my announcement.” …Donald Trump, on immigration, Republican debate, Aug. 6

Now… before we go on… I gotta say this… the man I am about to cite as refuting the Trumper’s words is a man I almost never agree with on anything whatsoever… he is that conservative… His name is Charles Krauthammer…karuthammer

But here we go…

The fact that Trump says the subject… immigration… was never on anyone’s mind?

Chuckie says… “For years, immigration has been the subject of near-constant, often bitter argument within the GOP. But it is true that Trump has brought the debate to a new place… first, with his announcement speech, about whether Mexican migrants are really rapists, and now with the somewhat more nuanced Trump plan.”

About that plan?

Chuck says… “Much of it… visa tracking, E-Verify, withholding funds from sanctuary cities… predates Trump. Even building the Great Wall is not particularly new. (I, for one, have been advocating that in this space since 2006.) Dominating the discussion, however, are his two policy innovations: (a) abolition of birthright citizenship and (b) mass deportation.

Now …Chuck really gets warmed up and fires off the volleys…

I will say this… Chuck can get his dander up and when he is riled can get on a real good stump and orate with the best of ‘em…

About that birthright citizenship that the Trumper wants to revoke…

Chucky says: “If you are born in the United States, you are an American citizen. So says the 14th Amendment. Barring some esoteric and radically new jurisprudence, abolition would require amending the Constitution. Which would take years and great political effort. And make the GOP anathema to Hispanic-Americans for a generation.”

And, about mass deportation?

Go get him Chucky…

Trump and Todd (r)
Trump and Todd (r)

“Last Sunday, Trump told NBC’s Chuck Todd that all illegal immigrants must leave the country. Although once they’ve been kicked out, we will let “the good ones” back in. On its own terms, this is crackpot. Wouldn’t you save a lot just on Mayflower moving costs if you chose the “good ones” first …before sending SWAT teams to turf families out of their homes, loading them on buses and dumping them on the other side of the Rio Grande? Less frivolously, it is estimated by the conservative American Action Forum that mass deportation would take about 20 years and cost about $500 billion for all the police, judges, lawyers and enforcement agents… and bus drivers! … needed to expel 11 million people.

This would all be merely ridiculous if it weren’t morally obscene. Forcibly evict 11 million people from their homes? It can’t happen. It shouldn’t happen. And, of course, it won’t ever happen.”

Then, the Chuckster says this… “Donald Trump has every right to advance his ideas. He is not to be begrudged his masterly showmanship, his relentless candor or his polling success. I strongly oppose the idea of ostracizing anyone from the GOP or the conservative movement. On whose authority? Let the people decide.

trump drives debateBut that is not to say that he should be exempt from normal scrutiny or from consideration of the effect of his candidacy on conservatism’s future. If you are a conservative alarmed at the country’s direction and committed to retaking the White House, you should be concerned about what Trump’s ascendancy is doing to the chances of that happening. The Democrats’ presumptive candidate is flailing badly. Republicans have an unusually talented field with a good chance of winning back the presidency. Do they really want to be dragged into the swamps… right now, on immigration…that will make that prospect electorally impossible?  Yes, I understand. The anger, the frustration, etc., etc., that Trump is channeling. But how are these alleviated by yelling “I’m mad as hell”… and proceeding to elect (a democrat)?”

Ummm… Chuckie? That’s enough now… STFU…

And, all you elephant candidates? Drag your asses deep down into the big muddy that the Trumper is creating for ya’ll… please…

Babies…

A baby’s mom, identified only as Ann Maree by KETV 7 in Omaha, shared what is being called a darling video of her daughter, Kate, chasing a young deer in their backyard on Sunday. Ann MAree says… “Our neighbor pointed out the fawn to us, it was in the backyard My daughter who is 15 months, decided to walk toward it…”

The story I read said that little Kate went up to the baby deer and it, at first, ran off… but then stops and stares back… the child walks towards the fawn and the fawn dashes off… then after about 15 minutes of back and forth the fawn goes up to Kate. Kate pets the deer… the deer munches on grass…babies

AWWWWWWWWW… Thats the collective sigh of the more than 1,700,000 people who have viewed the footage of the two babies.

I just got one thing to ask.. what the fuck would have happened if that fawn got all scared, for whatever reason, and ran the baby over trying to get away? How cute would that have been?

Or better… (worse?)… yet… what happens if mama deer comes around and freaks out? How cute would that had been?

Film at eleven? A YouTube special?

And what would all the fawning 1.7 mil peeps have to say then?

One last thing… I hope someone made sure that little Kate was checked for things like ticks… ya know like the kind that bite ya and give ya Lyme’s disease or whatever they got out in Omaha-land…

Justin Wilson…

WilsonJustin Wilson, 37-year-olda, died Monday night from a head injury suffered when a piece of debris from another racing car struck him during a Pocono Speedway race the previous day. After being struck, Wilson’s car veered into an interior wall at the track, and, raceway personnel quickly attended to him and he was taken via by helicopter to a hospital in critical condition.

Messages of condolences have since poured in as Wilson was said to be one of the most popular drivers in the series.

Yet, in a manner of speaking Wilson’s legacy will live on, and in more than just being recognized as a damn good person who happened to be a race car driver…

Justin Wilson saved six lives Tuesday by donating his organs…tweet 1

The announcement of that fact was tweeted by Stefan Wilson, Justin’s younger brother who is also a race car driver….

Nuff said…

If you can then do it… follow Wilson’s example and help save lives by donating…

  1. 1) As a supporter of the Detroit Football Club, I do indeed agree with you that animal lives matter — an especially lions and tigers. I will even go so far as to make my animal support extend to those who are in so-called ‘preserves’ and even in the ‘wild.’

    2) I really think it is time that people stopped picking on Trump. We have his word that he is not a bully (and are awaiting his word any day now that he is not a clown). Bullies invariably deny that they are bullies, claim that vocal differences and physical violence only occur when ‘opponents’ hit him/her back, and complain that others are treating him/her unfairly. In view of these characteristics, how in heaven’s name can Trump possibly be a bully?
