WTF 3/18… For what it’s worth…

Horesy cartoon

Back in the day… during the time when I was a young idealist kinda sorta radical… there was this song… For What It’s Worth… that I think… considering what all I been hearing, seeing and been reading lately…needs some listening to once again… this is how it went… at least these are the words…
There’s something happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it’s time we stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
There’s battle lines being drawn
Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
It’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you’re always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, now, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

joe11) If, ya’ll read WTF on a regular basis, then, ya’ll kinda, sorta know what I think about Rudolph Giuliani… that he is an idiotic crackpot ass.

Not that long ago Giuliani made big time news when he said Obama wasn’t patriotic, and, then, myself, and a whole host of others, royally roasted his ass… and, I add, we rightfully did… for being an ass.390-rudy-0312

Now, he is blaming the Bamster for the brutal beat down that took place at a Mickey Ds in NYC… then said the prez should emulate Bill Cosby.

I know Cosby ain’t been convicted of anything, but, there sure are a lot of allegations out there… and someone saying that anyone, right now, should be more like Cosby, than a slew of other names that coulda been pulled out from the mainstream information stream… is well… to put it mildly… stupid in and of itself.

But… oh, well… it’s Giuliani we be talking about here…

AND, if, ya’ll don’t know about the Mickey Ds beatdown… here it is in a nutshell… some black female gangsters were caught on video punching and stomping another black, and solitary, teen in a Brooklyn franchise. More on that after I deal with Rudolph the red nosed jackass…

So… as I was saying… Rudolph the red nosed jackass said the Bammer was unpatriotic… that he was not like other folks of his own, that is Rudolph’s, ilk … and… ya’ll can read that in any manner way you like; I know how I read it.

McDs beatdown
McDs beatdown

Then, after this Mickey Ds stuff went down he, old Rudolph the red nosed jackass, said that the prez is ignoring “enormous amounts of crime” committed by African-Americans… aka black peeps. Simply put, Giuliani said that Obama is to blame for the brawl inside a McDonald’s in Brooklyn AND the shooting of two cops in Ferguson.

When did this all come about?

The former NYC mayor, speaking on AM970 radio, was asked by host John Gambling for his opinion on the Mickey Ds incident and the Ferguson cop shootings and Giuliani said, “It all starts at the top. It’s the tone that’s set by the President. It is the obligation of the President to explain … that our police are the best in the world.”

He also said that the LOFW (Leader of the Free World) should have used his position… or in Rudolph the red nosed jackass’ words the prez’ “bully pulpit”… to stop the protests in Ferguson that happened during the summer and that the prez doesn’t do enough to address the “enormous amount of crime” that’s done by African-Americans due to “historical” reasons.

Once again… read that last sentence any way you; I know how I read that sentence
THEN… he says, “I hate to mention it because of what happened afterwards (aka rape allegations), but (Obama should be saying) the kinds of stuff Bill Cosby used to say.”

FYI… Cosby, before the rape allegations greatly tarnished his image, frequently said, in very unminced, or politically incorrect, words how black folks need to focus more on education, be better parents and avoid lives of crime. He has also said that too many black folks put more importance on sports, fashion, and “acting hard” than on getting a good education, self-respect and self-improvement and that some black folks need to spend time being better parents and that if they need help learning parenting skills then ask and they can be taught the skills.

Although, I think, Cosby sometimes said what he said with a degree, or air, of superiority… like… I’m the seasoned old veteran patriarch-type of black man ya’ll need to be listening to because I know better than ya’ll… I tend to agree with the essence of what he had to say.

it's all Obama's fault...
it’s all Obama’s fault…

Then … when Rudolph the red nosed jackass probably recalled the fallout over his “the Prez doesn’t love America like us” comments… he said, “I disagree with Barack Obama on almost everything, but I think he’s a good family man and a good man.”

Putting… for a mo… all the other stuff aside… the absurdities of all that he said to Gambling on the radio… ya’ll know what he reminds of me? Ya know what Giuliani’s saying when he says the Bamster’s a good man and a good family man? It’s like back in the day when peeps used to say about one ethnic group or another (usually blacks or Jews) “…some of them are my best friends but…”

Yeah, right… what those peeps really meant when they said that was something to the effect of… I’ll associate with those other “those people” or “you people” as long as it is expeditiously appropriate to do so… especially, if, it means money in my pocket, or, some other manner of profiting, or, as a way to avoid an ass kicking, or, getting busted for being racist… but… I still think they are niggers or kikes or whatever other inappropriate racist bigoted words are relative and are nothing more than second, third, or, lower than the low class citizens.

Now… The Bamster was supposed to stop the stop the protest in Ferguson?

Damn, Rudolph the red nosed jackass would have fit right in when the Nazis were stomping round in their hob nail boots and storm trooping around Europe… or… maybe when Stalin was out making his bones back in the USSR…

See, short of bringing in an “outside police force” or “armed troops”… and… then, ordering them to use whatever force was needed to stop the protestors… maybe, ala Bull Connor in Birmingham in the 1960’s… what was done in Ferguson… bringing in the Missouri Highway Patrol headed by a black captain who had Ferguson roots as well as the National Guard and federal officers… was probably the best thing that could have been done under the circumstances of what occurred and what was being said and done by all involved.

But… beyond that… One of the things about the USofA is that we allow peeps to protest and say what they want… not to riot but to demonstrate and say what they believe regardless of who may think otherwise. We don’t stifle the press… we don’t suppress the First Amendment…

Or as the Bamster said at the time… “There’s also no excuse for police to use excessive force against peaceful protests, or, to throw protesters in jail for lawfully exercising their First Amendment rights. And here, in the United States of America, police should not be bullying or arresting journalists who are just trying to do their jobs and report to the American people on what they see on the ground.”

Even if it sometimes ain’t exactly what peeps of Giuliani’s ilk might think. It’s part of why America fought a revolution in the first place and became America.rudy-and-obama

But, old law and order Rudy might not understand that concept about America real well.

And, if, he thinks bad shit didn’t happen under other presidents… then the Rudolph the red nosed jackass is an even bigger red nosed jackass than I gave him credit for being. Under Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Bush the first as well as Bush the second… Clinton… even the peanut guy, Carter… any and all of them. Shit been hitting the fan all too often. Even during the Rudolph’s the red nosed jackass’ term as the mayor of the city that never sleeps. All them folks weren’t failing at their jobs? Even his Elephant buddies?

Because, I’m here to tell you every single one of them prez’ had demonstrations in the streets, sometimes riots going on and charges of police brutality and all kinds of nasty ass other stuff going on. So, them dudes musta been failures at doing their jobs, too?

Rudolph… my man… a piece of advice… just keep on talking and keep on representing yourself as an elephant…

Nuff said.

2) The brutal McDonald’s incident… here’s what was first reported as base on stuff seen in the NYDN…

Dozens of kids and at least two adults watched as four teenage girls brutalized a pint-sized 15-year-old girl in a Brooklyn McDonald’s… but not one made a move to stop it, a shocking video that’s been shared across the globe shows.

None of the witnesses at the Flatbush Ave. fast-food joint… many of whom were cheering during the after-school onslaught… dialed 911, though McDonald’s workers did call, police said.

One cold onlooker even joked as the girl lay on the floor, “Yo, she’s dead. It’s a murder!”

Despite being outnumbered, the lone teen refused to let go of one of her attackers… and even pulled the hoodie off her main assailant to reveal her purple bra. By the end of the three-minute video, the teen is left cowering under a table. The purple bra-ed attacker then kicks and stomps on her head several more times, calling her a “bitch,” before running out the door…article-cover-0312

It’s not until the very end of the melee that a few students finally take the beaten teen and lay her down on a bench.

All documented on video. All 3 minutes of it. Became the video that was heard around the world. And summarily denounced by a parade of pols and citizens… both NYC as well as statewide, nationally and internationally… and police officials. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is even offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the other suspects.

Now… in later reports this is what seems to be the truth…

According to a media report from unnamed sources, including the police… cops believe the brawlers were embroiled in an ongoing feud over “someone telling lies” about the victim and sources are saying that the teens set up the encounter at McDonald’s and that “(The victim) was there to fight. It looks like they went there to straighten out their differences and she wound up getting the worst of it.”

And… the video actually shows that the girl who got her ass kicked actually threw the first punch, but, that within seconds, her main combatant as well as the other teens bull rush her and then beat all hell out of her.

One witness said, “At first she was fighting just one girl. Then like about eight to 10 others joined. It looked like 100. I felt bad for her. No one was helping her. It was messed up. Not even the adults. I wanted to help her, but I knew I would get jumped, too.”

By the time police got a 911 and were dispatched to the Mickey Ds, cops, who were flagged down by other witnesses, were already on scene, but, it was all over but the shouting and confusion.

The battered teen said nada to the cops… good gangbanger that she was… I’ll get to that in mo… In fact, the cops had to go to her school and get a school official to convince her to get medical help.

This was later followed up by a schools spokesperson saying… “The actions in this video are abhorrent and our primary concern right now is for the well-being of the student.”

Within 24 hours or so, the main attacker was identified and popped by cops… and… unlike the busted up teen the busted teen ran her mouth… not sure if she was advised of her rights but this is essentially what she said… she told cops her crew had been hunting the victim since January and that she beat the hell out of the girl because it was payback for what she did to a close friend.

Now here’s some more pieces of the puzzle…

The attackers have affiliations with the Young Savages, a NY gang that has links to Folk Nation, a violent gang known to be involved with credit card fraud.

The “victim” has links to the 30 Crips gang and as of the latest reports will not cooperate in any investigations. And… she has actually been bragging about her beatdown and the fact that she’s still standing.splash-fight-0313

Cops, however, don’t need her to say anything to make any arrests nor does the DA need her to prosecute… a formal complaint would be helpful in court but it ain’t needed.

This me…

Everyone is saying this and saying that… and… ya know what? None of it will mean diddley squat when it all dies down because no one really gives a fuck… or… at least not enough folks give enough fucks. It is just the event of the moment that is presently in the spotlight and as awful horrific and stupid and asinine as it all is, no one wants to take the time, energy, money and the care to do anything about it all. The problem is not that some girl was attacked. The problem is not that something dreadful went down. The problem is that these children… and they are children… have no direction known and are like complete unknowns… except for their identification with some gang ideology and that they have more security within the gang than they do elsewhere… in their homes or schools or out and about in the world.

And, with that allegiance to the gang comes all the crap that comes with any other gang affiliation be it called ISIS… Boko Haram… Mafia… Hells Angels… whatever… a gang is a gang is a gang is a damn gang.

The answer is… stop making gangs necessary in our society… stop the need for children to gravitate to gangs for their welfare; for their needs; for their identity…

I don’t have the formula for getting there… to the answer… but I can see the problem and the solution as clear as I can see my face in a mirror.

What I will say is this… until we go through a seismic change of unforeseen proportions where folks who be in power care enough… or are forced to “care enough”… to supply the means to make the necessary changes then not a damn thing will ever change and the this gang violence will not stop.

And, that’s just the first step in a very long hard process…

3) One last thing… just to prove a point… kinda… about the kid who took on the ass beating…. Her Facebook page… yeah, even gangbangers have Facebook… anyway… the page had this post… “Everyone Like Im Famous Now.”

She also posted… “Im Gucc!” which according to the Urban Dictionary means “I’m good.”

Then the some posts in reply to her posts…

“Yooo Sis You Dead Famous.”

“I applaud u shorty u a ICON NOW…..”

And she came back with… “Thanks guys.”

Others did say things like…

“So sad this little girl think she’s famous for getting publicly humiliated. No, you’re not famous, people felt bad for you.”

“This is so sad on so many levels.”McDs beatdown girl's facebook page

“I don’t know you, but call the cops and report all of those girls. And the people who you thought were your friends aren’t.”

“You need to be brave ND stop being naïve. That’s gang assault.”

And once more… ya know what? All of these peeps have some hint of the truth.

It’s true that these gangbangers ain’t really true friends and are only friends of convenience but it’s what she and all the others got… probably all that they got… and… that is sad… just like one of the posters said.

It’s sad but it’s reality.

I go back to something I once said in a long time ago posted WTF…

There ain’t no big old gunslinger with a white hat riding into town who will take up the marshal’s stained and dirtied badge from the blood stained Main Street pin to his breast and then go clean up Dodge City… or… the Big Apple… or… the Windy City… or… wherever. It just ain’t gonna happen.

Like I’ve said about those folks in the Middle East… they need to want a change to happen before a change will ever begin to get generated and grow. And, then they need to be the ones to be doing the changing of whatever system is gonna be changed to.

And, so, too, must we in America want a real change to happen… and… then go ahead and be brave enough to do whatever needs to be done to make things change.

We have to confront our politicos and the fat cat money bag dudes and dudettes and persuade upon them a new way of thinking about how they can just start to make it so folks can get something they can grab onto and call their own. Because in the end it’s all about making America a place where folks can live that is free of want and worry.

I ain’t calling for no handouts… I’m asking for making sure all moms and pops can make a fair, decent living so they can afford what’s needed for their families to live with some pride in what they all got and where all they be heading. So, maybe they can take the time to teach their children well so that they can have a code to live by and know that they be loved.

4) Ya heard about those 47 elephant congressmen who sent a letter to Iran and told the leaders over there that maybe Obama can promise you stuff but that don’t mean the next guy has to honor it…

According to the official IRNA news agency, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say over all Iran’s major policies, called the letter a sign of “the collapse of political ethics and the U.S. system’s internal disintegration…” letter

Khamenei also said “Iranian officials know what they are doing.”

Exactly and of course.

The letter from the 47 elephants is perfect example of some real honest to goodness boldfaced ethnocentric behavior in its finest bloom.

Did these fools really believe the Iranians needed them to explain how American politics work? Did they honestly believe they were telling the Iranians anything new?

Bet on the fact that they have more than a few guys in their government who have been educated in some of the best and finest American schools that exist. And, probably are better versed in American politics than most of the 47 letter signees. Also, bet on the fact that there are peeps in the Iranian government who do nothing but study how American politics and culture work and operate. And, believe it when I say that there are peeps in the Iranian hierarchy who are well aware of what American prez’… present and future ones… can and cannot do.

What these 47 boobs done did is so absurdly pompous, arrogant, and, haughty and overbearing that it boggles the mind. That they could be so self-absorbed and self-centered, so filled with their own self-importance that they actually believed they could be so bold as to “teach” anyone anything is also mind boggling. What they did borders on being racist, if, it is not, in fact, racist. dear iran

Look… to think that they know more than another country… another culture or ethnicity… to think they could just up and go around teaching some other country something just out of the blue on the assumption that they are ignorant of the facts is just… well… it’s just simply asinine.

I mean think about it… they just assumed the Iranians were so backward of the ways of politics and of the world… that they… the Iran government… of course had to be ignorant of what they were telling them? Just like that? Really? That’s pretty damn ethnically self-centered and biased. No?

Ok… its freaking racist. Damn it.

5) Heard this news item? Rush Limbaugh believes that that there Oklahoma fraternity’s racist chant that suggested the lynching of blacks “would be a hit” if sung by Kanye West. Kanye & Rush

This is not a joke… he said that on his radio show while discussing the racial slurs that were recently sung by members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Specifically he said, “If this had been a song by Kim Kardashian’s husband, and they’d sung this song at the Grammys, this would be a hit. Can we all agree with that? I’m telling you that this stuff gets awards and the people that sing it are portrayed as American royalty in terms of celebrity. You can’t deny that.”

Ok… this doesn’t need me to say much here at all. This just proves that this guy is dead from the neck up and has nothing to offer society at all.

And, then, some people wonder why some folks say other certain folks just need to go off somewhere and die?

6) And, it’s not just Rush who is trying to make excuses for these frat brothers embracement of racism.

There’s this radio show called the “Morning Joe” that is trying to make the case that it’s all the fault of the genre of rap… or, to be more precise… the fact that rappers themselves tend to use certain words… including racial epithets such as the word nigger… that all these young dudes of a very Caucasian persuasion were caught singing a bunch of racist words to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands.”

Now…FYI… because I had no idea WTF “Morning Joe” was… “Morning Joe” is an early morning 6:00 am to 9:00 am (EST) weekday radio show with Joe Scarborough discussing the news of the day in a panel format with co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Willie GeistUPtown_MOrningJOe-640x360

In plain words… the “Morning Joe” said rappers could be to blame for Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s (SAE) racist chant because they… the frat boys… likely learned the word from listening to rap music.

Here’s what some this “Morning Joe” peeps said…

First, one of the hosts of the show, Mika Brzezinski, said that rapper Waka Flocka Flame cancelled an upcoming concert at OU after the leaked SAE video showed a bus full of the members singing their little racial ditty. She then said, “If you look at every single song, I guess you call these, that he’s written, it’s a bunch of garbage. It’s full of n-words, it’s full of f-words. It’s wrong. And he shouldn’t be disgusted with them, he should be disgusted with himself.”

Then, a guest on the show, conservative analyst Bill Kristol, joined into the pity… or is it an excuse?… party… “Popular culture becomes a cesspool, a lot corporations profit off of it, and then people are surprised that some drunk 19-year-old kids repeat what they’ve been hearing.”

Next… another host, Joe Scarborough, brought up a somewhat salient issue… the fact that a lot of peeps buying rap are white… “The kids that are buying hip hop or gangster rap, it’s a white audience, and they hear this over and over again. So do they hear this at home? Well, chances are good, no. They heard a lot of this from guys like this who are now acting shocked.”

Chances are also possible they do hear the word at home. Not sag its given, but, I am saying its very possible they heard the word at home… becaeuse you damn well know they heard it somewhere else besides just listening to rap songs… but.. I am getting ahead of myself here…

Then this dude… one Willie Geist… said… Hol on that baba looey… ok… I’m using my writer’s license to include that “hol on thar” stuff… but… he did say… “… there is a distinction between a bunch of white kids chanting about hanging someone from a tree, using that term in a hateful way”, and, the fact that peeps who do rap and use it in their music.

AND… that’s the real point… singing the words… that these frat boys did… sing songing about the so-called fact that “… there will never be a nigger SAE”, and, then about hanging from a tree is freaking racist.

Sorry… there is no way to otherwise interpret those words. Its ignorant; its stupid, and its racist.

Wanna know how racsit? I recently read a piece where a writer said this:

First, let’s re-examine the lyrics of the chant. The hosts seem to be caught up on the use of the n-word, which is essentially recycling the “they use it so why can’t we?!” argument. However, even if the n-word had not been used, this chant would still be racist. They blatantly state that they would sooner lynch a Black man than see him be a member of their fraternity. If they had replaced “n—-r” with “dear friend” the song would still be racist.”  …  and “Here’s Why Anyone Who Defends The SAE Chant Is A Racist Apologist” on the website UPTOWN, Luxury lifestyle and Living

Clear enough, now?

Using the word in song lyrics or poetry… and, in my opinion, it does depend on the context and the usage… is entirely a different situation and a different reality.

Here’s the real deal.. use the word at your own risk… I’m gonna say that I have used it and I still use it among certain folks that I hang with… some of those folks are black folks. One is a dude I work with everyday… he’s my boss, in fact.

We do not use it just as some random adjective or noun for the hell of it. If, we use it, we use it in a certain context and with certain specific meanings or ways. AND… we do not use it around every Tom, Dick and Harry, or, Joan, Jill and Sally. It is a word that is used discriminately… if you would.

To go around and use the word… as the SAE peeps did… to suggest that there will never be a black person who would be in the frat… SAE… is racist. Then… to compound that and connect it to the image of lynching…or hanging from a tree… is doubly racist. It just is.

If, that can’t be seen, then, I don’t know how else to explain it. It is.

But, this defense of the SAE frat boys is coming from all corners…

Ya ever heard of Barry Switzer? Yeah, that Barry Switzer… the former football coach of the Oklahoma football team. Well, Switzer is an honorary member of SAE and this is his take on his fellow SAE peeps singing the song… he defended the frat, and, said the kids who sang the song were just “innocent.”

Innocently killing you with their words…

7) Did ya ever think there are just too many studies? Too many papers on stuff? Well if ya’ll did, then, ya’ll be right. Ya know why? Because someone did a study on it… a paper.Hartz IV Claims Disputes Reach 100,000 In Berlin

Fact. A new study found that an overabundance of studies is making it difficult for researchers to remember the ones that are actually relevant. The paper said that bunches of peeps from the intelligentsia are suffering from “attention decay.” Simply put, as more and more stuff gets studied, there just is that much more and more stuff that peeps gotta weed through and eventually stuff just gets lost in the… paperwork.

8) OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!

I just never thought of this and it sounds excruciatingly painful…

A 42-year-old man was rushed to a Boston hospital after breaking his dick while attempting to screw.

Right… here’s the story… the guy was about ready to drive his manhood into his lover’s womanhood and he missed… drove his woody right below the mark and into her crotch…and snap! It broke. crack

Technically he fractured his tunica albuginea… that’s the watertight, fibrous sheath that surrounds the double-barreled structure that actually gets stiff as a man gets his woody.

When the dude was rushed into the ER, doctors took one look and did an emergency dick repair… and… lucky for the dude it was a successful emergency dick fix.

According to the report in the New England Journal of Medicine, the man seems to have recovered…his three-month and six-month checkups revealed he’s able to get an erection and he doesn’t have any weird abnormalities.

No word if he’s still doing it with the lady of that eventful night.

9) Interesting bill being introduced Tuesday in the Nevada Legislature.

Democratic Sen. Tick Segerblom is sponsoring a bill that would let animal owners and their pets to get stoned on pot together… for medically purposes only… of course.medical-marijuana-pets

As long as a vet certified the pet had an illness that might be alleviated by the drug.

Back in 2013, veterinarian Doug Kramer told The Associated Press that pot helped ease his Siberian husky’s pain during her final weeks, after surgery to remove tumors. Kramer said that the weed helped his dog, Nikita, gain weight and live an extra six weeks before she was euthanized.

Kramer told the AP, “I grew tired of euthanizing pets when I wasn’t doing everything I could to make their lives better. I felt like I was letting them down.”

Now the fact is the Nevada proposal is still in its earliest stages and faces several legislative hurdles before it could become a law. And, The pot-for-pets provision is part of a larger bill that would overhaul the state’s medical marijuana law… which, if passed, would also remove penalties for drivers who have marijuana in their blood and requiring training for pot-shop owners.

All I can say is…. Hmmmm… and curiouser and curiouser…

I’m not sure if I want a bunch of pot addled folks driving around all dazed and confused…

10) Back when ya’ll were kids did ya ever TP a house? At Halloween?  A yard maybe? Come on.. ya know ya did… or… at least, knew kids who did and laughed about it…

Wanna see the mother of all TP jobs?

That’s Howie Mandel’s house…

Roman Atwood showed up to the “Deal or No Deal” host’s home and hit it with over 4,000 rolls of toilet paper. Mandel’s son and wife were in on the trick.

Mandel who has OCD was a tad off kilter… ok, he was royally pissed… when he rolled up to his home after just getting in from NY.

But after Atwood came out and took the blame for the prank… Howie chuckled and admitted he’d been pranked… everybody laughed.

He even posted pics on Instagram and said… “I’m so Prangry, go watch what @RomanAtwood and @AlexMandel did to my house.”

I wanna know how much that freaking cost!? Must be nice to have some random mad money to just throw around like that… huh?

  1. Great as always. I won’t speak of Giuliani. I have nothing nice to say about that man. Nothing so I’ll avoid going in on him.

Good as always. I don’t have much of an opinion on your #2 and #3 posts. Sad but it’s kind of a que sera sera thing for me.

  2. Joe,

I suppose it is disclosure time. I am a political Independent. I am a strong economic and fiscal conservative, believing devoutly that no entity (individual, organism, organization, or government) can survive if it expends more resources than it receives. Does this make me an “elephant?” No. At the same time, I am a strong social and political liberal, believing that it is the first mission for any entity to support its components in the effort to survive. Does this make me a “donkey?” No.

On to your blog. So much to respond to — so little space.

    1) There are some people who don’t understand what the United States is all about. Their attitude is frequently “If someone does not do as I do or believe as I do, then that person is somehow lesser.” In particular for R. Giuliani, I do not love America as he does, thank God! But I do not consider myself as lesser.

Modern protests standing for human rights started before Johnson. In fact it was the efforts of M. L. King in speaking from the pulpit and supporting R. Parks and company the was the spark that lit the tinder. JFK also spoke to these issues and was cornered by the demonstrations and so he actively supported the Voting Rights Act (which passed later under Johnson). JFK asked his kitchen cabinet “Where are they getting these ideas?” Supposedly it was Salinger who replied, “Why, from you, sir!” Kennedy thought he was throwing away his chance at a second term by supporting the movement which he felt needed another generation to reach fruition.

We are cynical toward out public leaders, but it is nice to recall that there are instances of them choosing moral right over political right.

    4) In its open letter to Iran, the “elephants” continue their quest for oblivion. This letter follows six years of obstructionism of national action on important issues, inactivity which the “elephants” tried and failed to blame on the “donkeys.” I wonder how the Whigs of over a century and a half ago felt as their party also committed suicide?

    5) and 6) It seems to come as a surprise to many that there is more to racism than just using racial slurs. And time that “we vs. them” is used, there is the suggestion of racism, sexism, ageism, or other “ism” of intolerance involved. I recall Sterling (then owner of the Clippers) saying something to the effect (with regard to blacks) “I love them.” He then wondered — perhaps honestly — why people saw that as racist.

  3. I agree with your 4th point…yet.. still enough folks decided a change was needed in the last elections and went elephant. Go figure. And… so it goes.

I just read a piece in todays newspaper that says the Affordable Health Care Act is succeeding… way beyond everyone’s expectations, even the donkeys. Despite elephant obstructionism and even Obama’s own obstructionism… Yet, the elephants are still bound & determined to try and repeal the damn thing. Even though its benefitting folks in their own states on a big time level. Go figure and so it goes.

and #5 & #6… some peeps still think that the White Mans Burden kind of thinking is real. Go figure… and here’s hoping, so, it does not go…

  4. In reply to Joe’s reply:

I wonder what the proportion of the population voted Whig before the War Between the States? Some people are just slow to see the obvious. It might be noted that the donkeys almost suicided in 1948. They had a conservative rump caucus composed mainly of southerners who were referred to as “Dixiecrats.” The 1948 nomination convention effectively told this group “Get in line with the rest of the party or go form your own.” The donkeys lost the “solid south” because of this but they survived unto today.

Most of the people I know, including more than a few elephants, range everywhere from avid supporters of Obamacare to cautious approval. I see it as a work in progress. It is by no means what it should be, but is a major step in the right direction. It needs to be supported (rather than just mandated) federally and to be debugged. It was put together in a hurry, perhaps too much of one. A manufacturer of jigsaw puzzles would not farm out each piece to a different jobber and expect the product to form a smooth puzzle when assembled. But this is exactly what happened in the construction of the original bill and the website. Minimally it should in both cases have gone through alpha and beta testing.

I believe that the “White Man” created his (or her?) own burden by believing it was necessary. I hate to think of how many cultures around the world have been partly or completely destroyed because those with a more powerful military or economics moved in and imposed it others. Now we are concerned about preserving cultural artifacts and practices which should not have been threatened in the first place.

  5. Yep, the pictures are great.

But you don’t need to feel left out on the writing. I (and I believe Joe, too) give you permission to write on your own website. What you write will be read and respected, although there is a slight chance that it will not be agreed to. 😉
