Thought I would start something new for the New Year, and start putting out a lyric or something everyday, at about 6:30 CST, I’m gonna throw something up on Twitter. I might have some of the other writers take a week or two every now and again (if you start seeing Nas or Frank Sinatra, chances are I’m taking a week off) So lets have fun with it, and if you missed a day, or just have no idea where the song comes from, well, here you go.
So how did you enjoy Rap Week?
Eminem – Lose Yourself 1/12
How else can I start this week off? I might upset some people, but I consider this the best rap song ever. I will defend the D.O.C as the greatest rapper of all time, and Fear of a Black Planet is the greatest album, but to me, this is the best rap song of all time. If you have kids- this song speaks to you.
Freak from L.A. to the Carolinas
Dip them suckers in Aunt Jemima
Don’t make a difference what food you make
Sir Mixalot – Buttermilk Biscuits 1/13
Yeah, its bubble gum rap, but I was feeling a little stupid. Sir Mixalot might be the first major rapper to not care about social issues, it was a different time.
So I’ma run ’til I can’t run no more
NWA – 100 Miles And Runnin’ 1/14
I will say nothing about this song.
Plus nobody I know
got killed today
in South Central L.A.
Today was a good day.
Ice Cube – Today Was A Good Day 1/15
If you feel the same way about Eminem that some people feel about Darius Rucker at the Grand Ol Opry, this might be you selection for GOAT rap. If you are under 20. Read the lyrics of this- and then you will understand why current rap is 80% crap.
Sugarhill Gang – Rappers Delight 1/16
The Superhill Gang is kind of forgotten, but this is the breakthough for Rap. You don’t get Soul Train without the Sugarhill Gang.
Now I got the gun and you got the brew
You got two choices of what you can do
It’s not a tough decision as you can see
I can blow you away or you can ride with me
Beastie Boys – Paul Revere 1/17
Yeah, I love the Beastie Boys. Any group so out of control that MADONNA throws you off her tour? Kinda silly, almost bubblegum, but an enjoyable little distraction.
Big Daddy Kane – Ain’t No Half 1/18
This might be the last rap CD I bought. That should tell you something. Its been a long time since I heard this one, but this one is a classic for a reason.
