WWE Night of Champions Predictions

Last month at Summerslam, we saw the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar absolutely dominate John Cena to take the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.  Tonight, at Night of Champions, they will face off one more time.  Will Lesnar’s reign of dominance continue or will the leader of the Cenation become a 16 time World Champion?  Here are my predictions for tonight’s main event as well as every other match that will take place tonight.

Chris Jericho vs Randy Orton

From a booking standpoint, this match doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, especially since Y2J is coming off a very well put together rivalry with Bray Wyatt.  Jericho is set to hit the road after this pay per view with his band, Fozzy, so this will likely be Jericho’s last match for a while.  Jericho has always had a great reputation with putting over anyone the WWE wants him to (everyone remember when he lost to Fandango at Wrestlemania 29?).  The only logical ending to this match would to have Orton win.  Ever since Orton lost the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 30, his credibility has gone down drastically, so getting a win over a veteran like Jericho is just what he needs right now.

Prediction: Randy Orton

The Usos vs Goldust and Stardust for the WWE Tag Team Championship

The booking for this match has been very interesting.  With Goldust and Stardust getting over so well with the crowd, I was a little surprised they had them turn heel recently, but nonetheless it does add more of a story to their rivalry with the Uso’s.  Goldust has always had his best work as a heel and one could make the same argument with Stardust (Cody Rhodes).  The Uso’s, while extremely popular, have been the WWE Tag Team Champions for quite some time and I see WWE looking for a change and a shakeup in the tag team division tonight.

Prediction: New WWE Tag Team Champions: Goldust and Stardust

Mark Henry vs Rusev

Can we stop with the uber-patriotic wrestler vs evil foreigner in wrestling already?  This isn’t the 80’s anymore and the days of Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Iron Sheik are long gone.  Having said that, Rusev is a guy that has every tool to be a huge success in the WWE and I don’t see the company halting his momentum and tremendous heat with the audience by having him be beaten by Henry.

Prediction: Rusev

Paige vs AJ Lee vs Nikki Bella for the WWE Divas Championship

I think I speak for every WWE fan in saying we are so done with the Brie Bella/Nikki Bella rivalry.  For the past few weeks we have been subjected to some of the worst acting and writing in WWE history.  Jerry Springer getting stretchered out of the arena after being attacked by two 90 pound women is just riveting TV isn’t it?  Paige and AJ Lee have had a very stellar rivalry for the past couple months and are two of the best female wrestlers WWE has had in a long time and it’s really unfortunate that Nikki Bella has been injected into it.  As much as this pains me to say, I think WWE wants Nikki vs Brie for the Divas Championship.  God help us all.

Prediction: New WWE Divas Champion: Nikki Bella

Dolph Ziggler vs The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship

Dolph Ziggler should be in the main event picture and every fan knows it.  He is arguably the most athletic and talented in-ring performer the WWE has and the Intercontinental Championship, with all do respect to the title, is beneath him at this point.  However, he is on a serious roll with the audience and is really giving the Intercontinental title the prestige it deserves.  This rivalry at this point has been drug out a little too long in my opinion, so hopefully this will be the last match in this rivalry.  Dolph Ziggler vs Bray Wyatt anyone?

Winner: Still WWE Intercontinental Champion: Dolph Ziggler

Sheamus vs Cesaro for the WWE United States Championship

Is there really any point in still having the United States Championship anymore?  Sheamus’s reign as the United States Championship has been underwhelming to say the very least and could more accurately be called the WWE Main Event Championship.  Both of these competitors are way too talented and are too far along in their careers to be wrestling for this title.  This match may very well steal the show though.  Both guys have shown to have really good chemistry in the past and I expect nothing less in this match.  It’s hard to pick a winner in this one but I don’t see any reason to put the title on Cesaro considering he’s already had a run with the title and I keep hoping he’s getting prepared for bigger things by the company.

Winner: Still WWE United States Champion: Sheamus

Brock Lesnar vs John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

I think at this point any educated WWE fan knows that Lesnar is going to come out on top in this match.  The bigger question isn’t who is going to win, but how Lesnar is going to win.  WWE has done a great job booking Cena as being ruthless and focused on getting his championship back and running through everyone in his way to get it.  I see this match being a little more competitive than the last match which was essentially a squash match but I still see Lesnar being extremely dominant and coming away with the victory fairly easily.  The WWE has to book Lesnar as the unstoppable and unbeatable monster on the road to Wrestlemania for his inevitable showdown with Roman Reigns.  The more dominant they book him, the greater the anticipation will be.

Winner: Still WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Brock Lesnar
