A Little Bit of Luck . . .

NBA LottoHave you ever played the lottery? Bought a scratch off ticket? Played the numbers? Do you know that feeling of praying, hoping, begging that your lucky number comes out? That joy, that exuberance, of knowing not only you won but you got some money coming to you? Well tonight is the NBA Lottery, and while fans are not going to get any money in their pockets, fans of the franchises involved will be glued to their television sets at 8:30 PM Eastern just praying to know that joy.

This NBA Draft is full of some very interesting talents. While there might not be the next LeBron or Durant in this draft class, the 2014 Draft headlined by the likes of Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, and Joel Embiid. This class is full of players that can boost the hopes of a fanbase, and alter a franchise. I may be downplaying this draft class, because I don’t see the next NBA superstar in it, but that will not stop fans of the Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, Utah Jazz, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, New Orleans Pelicans, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Phoenix Suns from dreaming tonight.

Draft LotteryImagine Wiggins as a 76er playing alongside Noel and Michael Carter Williams? Or Jabari Parker as a member of the Utah Jazz? Or Paker as a member of the Phoenix Suns? Or Dante Exum playing alongside Kobe Bryant in the backcourt of the Lakers? Or Embiid teaming up with Anthony Davis as a Pelican, assuming New Orleans’ pick is in the top 5 so it isn’t reverted to Philadelphia? Or how about Orlando? Thanks to the New York Knicks trading their pick to Denver, and Denver owing that pick to Orlando, the Magic have a chance at 2 lottery picks. The 76ers also fall into that category with the aforementioned deal with the Pelicans that went down last year for Jrue Holiday.

Tonight kicks off a month of dreaming by fans who may be feeling a little hurt that their teams didn’t make it to the postseason. While, I’m not one for games of chance I’ll be honest: it would be great to see the Lakers make it to the top 3 of the Lottery. As a Lakers fan I know what Wiggins, Parker, or even an unknown like Exum can do wonders for that team as they prepare for a day where Kobe Bryant will not be around. Also, thanks to Twitter I know I am not alone in that regard as I’ve seen plenty of tweets from Laker Nation waiting for the events that will unfold later on today. I won’t be watching, personally I find watching the Lottery to be a bit of a bore, but for the Lakers and the rest of the franchises involved today its that roll of the dice, that agonizing wait to see your number drawn. Where will your team end up drafting? A few hours more to cross your fingers, clutch your lucky rabbit foot, or to wish upon a wishing well. Only a few more hours for a bit of luck . . .

  1. I thought about throwing that in there. My guess? Boston. Got the surplus of picks, promising young players, and cap space to try and recreate another big three.
