Andre Johnson may want out of Houston, Raiders would make some sense

No More Manning? Whoo-Hoo! Our turn!

Andre Johnson is on record stating he doesn’t want to be part of a rebuilding situation with the Houston Texans. And for a player that is going to be 33 when next season starts, that is certainly understandable.

The Texans selected Jadeveon Clowney 1st overall the recent NFL draft in order to build an imposing defense, but they took a promising player, but a project in Tom Savage and he won’t play right away. And Ryan Fitzpatrick should not inspire confidence in any wide receiver if they’ve seen enough game tape.

Houston and Oakland should look into a trade scenario, it benefits both teams and the Raiders need to try and win now. General manager Reggie McKenzie and head coach Dennis Allen are both on the hot seat for their jobs, that’s why McKenzie went out and signed players that can help the team try to win immediately, rather than rebuild and play for the future.

Oakland isn’t coming off a very good season, they went 4-12 and selected Khalil Mack 5th overall in the recent NFL draft. Doubters would say why Oakland if Johnson doesn’t want to be in a rebuilding situation? Well, they were very active in free agency and they had a great draft, this isn’t the same team from last season. He is also familiar with new Raider QB Matt Schaub, in a down season for Schaub, Johnson still managed to snag 109 catches for 1,407 yards, 12.9 yards per catch, five touchdowns and 87.9 yards per game. His ypc was the major stat that declined the most. With a better offensive line and running game, Johnson could bounce back and have a great season.

Johnson would give the Raiders a very good #1 WR and James Jones would be the perfect compliment as the #2 WR with
Rod Streater, Denarius Moore, and Andre Holmes adding depth. They would have one of the better WR corps in the league giving Schaub every chance to succeed.

There are other teams out there that might make more sense (the Pats, Panthers), but Johnson would be a hero if he came to Oakland and teamed up with Schaub to help Oakland return to glory. McKenzie needs to look into trading for him as soon as possible. Standing pat with their WR’s isn’t an option when Johnson could be acquired.

  1. Oakland is in a worst situation than Houston is, why Andre Johnson to the Raiders only makes sense to Raider homers like DJ. I’m sorry but why would he leave Houston for a worse situation? Next season the Raiders face off against the NFC West and the AFC East. That’s at least 6 losses. That’s 6 losses before they turn their attention to their own division.

Sorry, but the man wants to be a winner and your Silver and Black hasn’t been a winning team for eleven seasons now. Number 12 is only forthcoming.

  2. Tampa would have an embarrasment of riches at the position. The Bucs should go after him though. Vincent Jackson, Mike Evans, and Andre Johnson? Jeez…
