Game of Thrones: Kings Landing

We continue our Game of Thrones preview.

Today we take a look at the People of Kings Landing that are not members of a House- plus the Houses of Tyrell and Arryn. The next two days we will be covering the Lannister House.

Lets keep in mind that this is not a full breakdown of everything GOT, but more a primer of what has happened and what you need to know moving forward. (Example, the whole Drago storyline and Viserys? Not really needed since that’s a dead thread and everyone involved is dead.)

There are also a ton of minor players who will get their treatment.

Again, keep in mind, neither EJ or David have read the books, and don’t be that asshole that spoils the series for no reason but evil glee. What the hell is wrong with you? So if we miss something IN THE SHOW, by all means let us know.

VarysLord Varys

Royal Spymaster, known as the Spider. He is a Eunuch, and has raised himself up from slave slave status. He has been in the shadows more often than not, as a good spymaster should. He recently was delivered a Wizard that once owned him and had him cut. He has a strong rivalry with Littefinger. He recently tried to buy Shae off to have her removed as a threat to Tyrion, saying he was one man that would save Westeros

David: I love Verys. The whole story he told Tyrion about the Wizard and waiting for his revenge was just spellbinding. I was just on the hook for him from that second on. I don’t know if he truly likes Tyrion, or he just happens to be the one man he can get close to amoung the Lannisters. This is actually pretty close to the way Eunichs were in the early Eastern Roman Empire.

EJ: I love Verys too. He and Baelish are the wildcards of the show. You really don’t know where they are going and what they’re up to. I love the intrigue behind his character, and you really have to pay attention when he speaks. I wonder if this is the season, where he finally tips his hand and gives a hint to who he truly supports.

Lord BaelishLord Petyr Baelish

They call him Littlefinger, and he is the former master of Coin.
He did want the hand of Carelyn Tully, but lost out to Ned Stark for it. He pretended to be ok with it, and jumped into running the best Whorehouse in Westeros. He does the first big backstab of the series, betraying Ned Stark to the Lannisters and getting his head cut off. He’s also the reason the Tyrells aligned with the Lannisters, and got Jamie Lannister released. When the Tyrell army arrived to save Kings Landing, it was due to Lord Baelish- and for this he got Harrenhal to rule. He leaves to go marry Lysa Arryn to secure her for the Lannisters.

David: He is a manipulative little man, who seems like he can twist and turn with the best of them. I get the feeling that Baelish is going to be one of the last men to die and when he does, we will be happy.

EJ: Baelish will never die. Why? He, besides Tyrion, is the ultimate schemer. He’s going to find his way on the “winning” side because that’s the kind of guy he is.

Gregor CleganeGregor Clegane

Older brother of Sandor Clegane, “the Hound” He is known as “The Mountain that Rides.” He’s huge, and a great warrior, but sadistic, as best shown by buring his brothers face. He was beaten by the Tullys at the Stone Mill, but escapes.

David: This guy is just a badass, and a scary dude to have coming after you. Not the brightest lantern in the keep, but when you are this scary, you don’t have to be. I have to think he’s gonna be sucking arrows here eventually.

EJ: This guy Gregor! The baddest of the bad! I would love it if he and Sandor fight to the death. Love it.

GendryGendry

Gendry is a lot of fun. Grew up in the slums as a blacksmith, and had a good degree of talent. Ned Stark knew who he was, and one of his last acts was to get him sent to the Wall to keep him alive. Joffery ordered all his fathers bastards killed, but thanks to dumb luck and Arya, he’s able to escape time after time. The small group end up with the Brotherhood without Banners, and he wants to stay with them, but they sell him to Stannis Braetheon. After seeing his first naked woman, he is told that Kings blood has power, and whom his father is. Davos saves him again, and puts him on a boat back to Kings Landing.

David: WTF is he going to do there? Joffery will have him killed, the smith he was working for isn’t about to hide him- Davos should have sent him anywhere but there. I like Gendry, and lets all be honest- we all thought he was going to end up on the throne with Arya more often than not the first two seasons.

EJ: I hate to do this and be all spoiler alert, but the creators of this show, are making up Gendry’s story line on the fly. He’s really a combination of several of Robert’s bastards, so I have no clue what they’re going to do with him next. Now, I didn’t read the books, but I saw that in an article somewhere, so I don’t know who Gendry is, where he’s going, or what’s he really about.

Grand Maester PycelleGrand Maester Pycelle

Member of the Small Council. He’s been around forever. He pretends to be senile and frail, but he’s quicker than you would think. He’s a spy for the Lannisters, and he was the one that went to Cersei about Jon Arryn looking into her relationship with her brother. Tyrion had him thrown in jail, but Cersei brought him back.

David: Tyrion is going to have Bronn kill this dude right? He doesn’t need all this crap when he has Cersei and his dad dumping all over him. I get the feeling he’s going to end up in a trunk next to Varys’ wizard.

EJ: Grand Master Pycelle is so old, but he has his wits about him. He’s playing the game, and he’s far too valuable to Cersei and Tywin for him to be placed in harm’s way.

House Arryn

ArrynLysa Arryn

She is the younger sister of Catelyn Stark, and the widow of Jon Arryn, who stated all this. She started going crazy when he was killed, and she was packed off to the Eyrie. She is still breastfeeding her son, who is (maybe) 8-9 years old. Littlefinger has been sent to get her and marry her last season.

Robin Arryn

He’s spoiled and smothered by his mom. He’s starting to exhibit a mean streak as well.

David: Does even Littlefinger deserve this pair? She’s batshit crazy and he’s being breastfed.
One of Three things is going to happen.

A) He’s going to be Joffery’s best freind
B) He’s going to say the wrong thing to Joffery Day 1 and get thrown out a window.
C) Both A and B

EJ:: This lady is crazy! Crazy as all hell, and no I don’t want to see her naked. I already saw a boob when she was breastfeeding Robin, and that was good enough. Make the bad man fly, mommy! This kid is nuts, and he’s stil on the tit.

House Tyrell

Olenna RedwyneOlenna Redwyne

Queen of Thorns. Margaery and Loras’ grandmother. She is one opinionated woman, and the power of the Tyrells allows her to be as sharp tounged as she wants to be. She’s smart as a whip as well, making sure that Margaery avoided Sansa’s fate. She also tried to get Loras to marry Sansa- to give her grandson the throne of Winterfell, but Tywin stopped her there by giving Sansa to Tyrion. Tywin also wanted to marry Loras to Cersei- but Olenna tried to stop that until option 2 was have Loras join the Kingsguard, and that would remove him from being able to inherit the Reach.

David: I love this old bat. She takes no shit and has a plan in mind. I really hope Tyrion and her get together. Not physically, of course, but mentally. She has the money and the power that is second only to the Lannisters- her problem is the only grandkid with a brain is yet another female. Loras is a dumbass.

EJ: Love her! Love her! She plays the game as well as anyone and she knows that the whole scene at King’s Landing is a game. I look forward to whatever schemes her and Tyrion will put together.

Loras TyrellLoras Tyrell

Knight of Flowers, and gay lover of Renly Baratheon. He is a very good fighter, and now that Renly was killed by Melisandre’s smoke monster, he wears his armor. He was paired with Sansa by his grandmother, but he told his current lover- who is a spy for the Lannisters, so now he gets Cersei.

David: As I said before, dumbass. Good thing he doesn’t like girls, since Cersei is going to rip his heart out with a spoon if he touches her- you think Tyrion didn’t want a bedding ceremony! Not to mention Jamie might shove that stump where not even Loras won’t like it.

EJ: Loras isn’t going to be happy this season. Cersei is a beautiful woman, but not for a man that likes boys. He better man up, drink some Dornish wine, and do what he has to do.
