NCAAM season preview.

I don’t want to linger here long but I felt someone needed  to bring others up to speed on what appears to be a very intriguing college basketball season unfurling in the winter breeze.

I can’t remember a season  that started off with so many ups and downs to begin the season.unc

For one, the UNC Tarheels have lost two non-conference games already to Belmont and UAB. Neither of these teams are on anyone’s radar for doing anything this year; other than beating the Tarheels of course. So, automatically everyone thinks that Roy and the boys will be underachievers again. McAdoo will wear the big “U” for underachiever here in his junior year again since the Tarheels will not contend for the ACC title.

But wait, #4 Louisville and #1 Michigan State might have something to tell about this team. UNC beat both, Louisville in Chapel Hill and Michigan State at MSU.

I can’t recall a year that this has happened that two top 5 teams was beaten by the same team, and then that team lost to two unranked teams. Incredible.

If that were not incredible enough, when was the last time you saw a Bill Self ran Kansas team lose to two unranked opponents even before conference play began? It may have happened, but I can’t recall. While they were able to knock off the Duke Blue Devils, they could not muster enough to get past a pesky Colorado Buffaloes team or the Villanova Wildcats; both unranked at the time of the game.

It has gotten to the point that currently Arizona is the ONLY undefeated team that has played a top ten team and survived. Everyone else has either a “Bad Loss” this year or went down trying to defend their top ten ranking.

Kentucky was once #1 in the AP poll this year and they now have two losses; against the only other teams they have played ranked in the top 25; MSU and Baylor.

I for one am looking forward to the rest of the NCAAM season. March Madness is going to be just that this year.
