Richie Ingcognito

Richie and Martin

Incognito: With one’s identity disguised or concealed. That is the definition of the word.

Richie Incognito is accused of bullying Jonathan Martin, his Miami Dolphins teammate who left the team about a week ago. Incognito was suspended by the Dolphins on Sunday evening and the NFL started an investigation into what occurred. Reports are that he used a racial slur and was texting and calling Martin, leaving threatening messages on his voicemail. Allegedly, he went as far as saying “he was going to find his mother.”

Nobody would ever accuse Richie of being incognito. Incognito has been widely regarded as one of the dirtiest players in the League ever since he has come into the NFL as a rookie in 2006, not to mention he’s an outspoken individual. He has been suspended from each and every one of the three teams he has played for since becoming an NFL player. The St.Louis Rams gave up on him after 3 seasons when he headbutted 2 opponents in 2009, he was commonly penalized for unnecessary roughness. He only lasted 3 games with the Buffalo Bills before he wound up with the Dolphins.Incognito

Players that have gone up against him on the football field aren’t afraid of speaking out against him either.

“Hate is a strong word but I’ve always hated Incognito,” former NFL defensive end Lawrence Jackson Tweeted on Monday. “Just for perspective, he’s the guy that makes you want to spit in his face. Richie Incognito is… a dirty and disrespectful player. For those wondering…I played him 4x when I was with Seattle. We all knew to watch our KNEES and be alert for his antics.”

And it didn’t just start when he entered the League either. According to USA Today, in 2002 when he was a freshman at Nebraska he bullrushed a non scholarship player by the name of Jack Limbaugh from behind, sending him to the ground. Why? No reason was given. Limbaugh’s reaction was similar to Martin’s, he didn’t respond. Limbaugh picked up his gear and left.

On Wednesday, his Dolphin teammates were all over ESPN defending him saying that the two involved were best of friends and it may be just my opinion, but that’s bullshit. They are claiming Incognito is an honorary black man, but this (again, too me) smells of nothing more than a coverup. The NFL is a fraternity, just like the police department. Now, I’m not saying all cops are bad but when there is an investigation there is a code among cops. Don’t snitch on your brother. I think it’s the same thing here. It’s a fraternity.

If Martin had been someone like say…Jovan Belcher it’s very well possible that Incognito would be worm food right about now. Not advocating violence, but in our ever-changing society where you never know what’s going in somebody else’s head until it’s too late…people need to think twice about messing with somebody.

I hope he’s saved a lot of cash because Richie is done in the NFL. No team is going to be willing to bring him in when he will bring more attention than Tim Tebow and the circus he brings. He needs to try and salvage what he has remaining if his life. Maybe, start with some therapy and not be such a POS.

Big time sports fan of the Lakers, Raiders, Angels and Dodgers. From 1990-1995, I worked at the Glendale News-Press and I had a blast. I covered mainly high school sporting events and Glendale Community College athletic events, but also attended Dodgers, Raiders, and Rams games. I also write for Joel Huerto (former co-writer and editor at the GNP) at onemanfastbreak.net. I watch a lot of sports on TV (basketball, football, usually just postseason MLB) and UFC.

  1. I agree with the other commenters. Good article, DJ, you hit the nail on the head. I hope this incident serves as the beginning of the end for obscene treatment like Martin was exposed to in the NFL.

  2. Another good article, DJ. The more I read or hear about this Incognito guy, the more I hear the banjo-guitar music from “Deliverance”.

  3. Thanks everybody. In my opinion, there’s a couple other really good articles that are better than mine, but I was passionate about this topic and felt the need to vent.

  4. good article DJ, sometimes passion over just reciting the facts is what is needed on an issue. I think you’re right about the players closing ranks, sad part is I think Martin is the one that just may not play again. the mercenary NFL will always find a spot for an animal like Incognito…………he will play again and probably soon after he gets released
