I will not get all emotional and all, but I just wanted to post this quick note to remind everyone they should never forget the event that changed our lives forever; whether you know it or not. Never forget September 11th, 2001.
No longer can you catch a flight, domestic or international, without feeling almost physically violated. On those same flights you cannot carry a normal can of shaving cream, lotion more than 3 ounces or anything in any other container of liquid more than three ounces unless you purchase it on the secure side of the checkpoint. You cannot have a lighter on your possession; fingernail clippers, nail file or any other pointy instrument.
Military and Federal installations require multiple levels of Force Protection now that once only required a wave of the hand to enter.
Homeland Security Agency is now spending billions on homeland defense in preparation against the next possible attacks on our soil. The Transportation Security Administration has beefed up their forces tremendously and works many hours to make our airports, train stations and modes of transportation as safe as possible. However, many of us now realize that IF those that would do us harm want too bad enough there are always those few successes that get through and have huge impacts regardless of the efforts made to stop them. The Boston Marathon bombing is just one example of those successes.
We have sent thousands of solders, marines, airmen and sailors to the Persian Gulf area in hopes of squashing those responsible for those attacks and after many, many confrontations and deaths on both sides of the forces, we still are not sure if we got the EXACT persons responsible OR if we even had any impact.
We know that Saddam Hussein and his reign of terror is over. We know that Osama Bin Laden no longer exist to preach infidel tripe. However, like always before, there are others to fill their shoes. It will forever more be a battle against those who elect to envy our lifestyle privately while in the name of some religious belief continue to condemn us for who we are and what we stand for publicly.
So I ask, no I beg all of you living here in the United States, and those readers abroad that face these same threats; NEVER FORGET. NEVER let your guard down. NEVER let those that would practice terroism as a means of rule win.
I thank you for the time you took to read this and your Patriotism.
Archie M. Williams, SFC (RET) U.S. Army. “NEVER FORGET”
