ManMovie Tournament! Part I: What is a Man Movie?

We all have an opinion of what makes a ManMovie a ManMovie. Most Interesting Man

We need explosions, hot women, a fight, women, a bloody nose, more women and fire. Oh and gratuitous nudity if at all possible.

So here is the only way I can define it.

If a guy came over to your house, and was looking at you movie collection, and said “I’ve never seen this” you would instantly grab it, smack him in the head with it, and tell him the next time you see him, he better have watched it. If a lady says the same thing, you aren’t really as excited, no matter how much of a “guy” she is. I know some ladies that are more manly than quite a few men, but I’m never gonna push Fight Club on them the way I would a guy.

So how do find the best ManMovie? With a tournament of course! The best Man way to do anything! Let’s say a guy comes over to your house for the night, picks up Fight Club and Scarface and says he’s never seen these- what movie do you throw in the DVD player first? That’s who you vote for.

The Rules:

No blatant horror movies. Much as Saw might belong on this list, I just can’t slap them up there. I’ll save them for next time.

Only 1 movie in a series. I’m taking the best of the series, I don’t care how much you love Batman begins, its not even close to Dark Knight, so it makes it as the representative. Sorry Godfather II and Rocky III.

I’m also limiting the amount of John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and QT. Also I’m only taking one (1) Bond movie.

Speaking of, I’m counting Kill Bill as 1 movie.Hangover

No documentaries.

No Porn (Sorry Tom)

Everyone clear on the Rules?

So come back tomorrow, and I will reveal the Categories for the ManMovie tournament!

  1. I’m a mafia and gangster movie type of guy. Scarface, the first 2 Godfather movies (I own the trilogy but Godfather 3 is just bad), Goodfellas, Casino, and although it’s a British movie I absolutely must watch Layer Cake every 6 weeks.

  2. I love all the guy movies. Scarface, Goodfellas, and the 1st Godfather are definite favorites, but lately there are a few other “must sees.” Every guy should also see Olympus Has Fallen and Bullet to the Head. I also find myself watching Man On Fire every now and then; although I didn’t like the way it ended.

  3. OhF was filmed Here in Shreveport, I drove by the set on an almost daily basis.

Man on fire might deserve a spot, but I left it off. Let me know if that was an error when you see the list.

Layer Cake (stylized as L4YER CAKƐ on some promotional posters and DVD artwork) is a 2004 British crime thriller produced and directed by Matthew Vaughn, in his directorial debut. It is based on the novel Layer Cake by J. J. Connolly.

The title refers to the social strata, especially in the British criminal underworld, as well as the numerous plot layers in the film. The film has achieved cult status.

  5. If you like gangster movies and enjoy the insanity that is Christopher Walken, you simply cannot go wrong with “King of New York.” Awesome cast, too.
