RAIDERS:

SECOND WEEK OF APRIL UPDATE

Mike Jenkins has been added to the Raiders defense and it’s quite possible Oakland will have 9 new starters on a revamped defense that definitely needed it.

Mike Jenkins and Tracy Porter will most likely be the new duo at CB and it can’t be worse than Ron Bartell, Shawntae Spencer, Coye Francies and Chimdi Chekwa. Jenkins is just 28 and made the Pro Bowl in 2009 when he registered 49 tackles, 19 passes defended and picked off 5 passes.

Porter, 26, played just 6 games last season for the Broncos, but he still managed to record 21 tackles, 6 PD and an INT in basically half a season. 2009 was also his best season as he totaled 57 tackles, 12 PD and 4 INT’s.

So, the Raiders are hoping 2 relatively young players can rebound when given a chance to bounce back and rejuvenate their careers.

Andre Carter was re-signed also. Carter played in 12 games for Oakland last season and had 19 tackles and 2.5 sacks, but the Raiders had a rotation of D-linemen last year to keep players fresh. However, in 2011 he had 52 tackles and 10 sacks for New England. At 33 (by the time the season starts), he can still contribute as a key member to a rebuilt defense.

The defense is being redone and it was needed in order to help out an offense that will be led by new QB addition Matt Flynn who was acquired from the Seattle Seahawks. Terrelle Pryor had a decent showing to finish last year against the Chargers, but it looks like he’ll be a backup. Hopefully, the Raiders will implement 5-6 plays a game for him to showcase his running abilities in the Red Zone since they relied on Sebastian Janikowski to kick FG’s last year.

Big time sports fan of the Lakers, Raiders, Angels and Dodgers. From 1990-1995, I worked at the Glendale News-Press and I had a blast. I covered mainly high school sporting events and Glendale Community College athletic events, but also attended Dodgers, Raiders, and Rams games. 1. I agree with JENKINS AND PORTER are as good an addition as what we have released. I think they will find there place.

  2. They might not be a huge improvement, but they’re definitely better than the waiver wire types we had last season.

  3. It’s looking like Pryor might not have any type of future in Oakland. Why pursue Vince Young if they have any plans of incorporating Pryor into their offense?
