UFC on Fuel: Barao vs McDonald Preview!

UFC on Fuel Barao vs McDonald

The UFC on Fuel breakdown!

With the excitement of the first UFC Chick-er Women’s fight, this card has been passed over a bit, but don’t worry, we are here to give you the picks! Roni is going to join me for the Main Card.

Don’t forget the MMAPlayground, where you can pick against the entire staff!

Preliminary Card (Facebook)

Phil Harris vs. Ulysses Gomez

David: Phil’s nickname is “Billy”. Ok, if you needed a reason to pick Useless. . . .
I like Gomez on the ground better and could setup a TKO in the second round.

Vaughan Lee vs. Motonobu Tezuka

David: Lee’s a better striker. Thats about all I got.

Tom Watson vs. Stanislav Nedkov

David: I like Tom Watson here pretty easy, Nedkov kind of lets his opponent set the pace too much.

Andy Ogle vs. Josh Grispi

David: WTF happened to Grispi? Wasn’t he supposed to be great? Ogle isn’t a great fighter either, but I don’t think Grispi is quite done with the UFC yet. Grispi via DES.

Paul Sass vs. Danny Castillo

David: I enjoy Paul Sass, and I’m still stunned he got dropped. I don’t think Castillo has that power, and is going to want to fight on the ground, sadly, thats where Sass is still a danger on his back. Sass wins a duller.

Terry Etim vs. Renee Forte

David: This is a lay-up for Etim. If he brings his chin.

Light Heavyweight
Jimi Manuwa vs. Cyrille Diabaté

Roni: How can I pick against “poster boy” (Manuwa)? I was really impressed by him to pick against it. Even though I think  Cyrille is a well rounded, durable veteran! Manuwa by (T)KO in the 2nd!

David: Jimi tends to gas, and gas hard. Cyrille has been around a LONG time and knows how to make his opponent gas. If his chin holds up for round one, he takes over in the second and cruses in the third to a win.

Che Mills vs. Matthew Riddle

Roni: I Wanted to pull for Riddle here. But Che will be fighting at home, and I think he will win a hard-fought decision!

David: Mills has the range, and Riddle likes to get into a dirty boxing fight. I like Che to try and stay on the outside and try and pick Riddle apart. I think Riddle is going to try and force the action, and he’s going to take a bad angle and get caught in the later rounds.

Light Heavyweight
James Te-Huna vs. Ryan Jimmo

Roni: Same as the next one. Ryan “Big Deal” will come firing, but Te-Huna is just too powerful IMO. Te-Huna wins via (T)KO in the 1st!

David: This fight should be higher on the card. I like JTH to push the pace, come out swinging and win a fight that is going to keep the Brtis on their feet. Thankfully, this fight won’t hit the ground.

Gunnar Nelson vs. Jorge Santiago

Roni: I would LOVE to pick Santiago in this fight. The Blackzillians really need a win, and we should see fighters from this camp with a little sense of urgency! But Gunnar is my pick to win via Sub (RNC) in the 1st!

David: I have a hard time picking any Blackzillian right now. Gunnar is a great fighter, and as much as I like Jorge, he’s not even close on the ground.

Cub Swanson vs. Dustin PoirierDustin Poirier

Roni: I like Swanson in this fight. Making a bold prediction here, since neither of these guys have been (T)KO’d before. Cub wins via (T)KO in the 3rd!

David: Homer Alert! I love me some Diamond. Here is where the fight goes. On the feet, I will admit that Cub has a slight edge. Dustin has a larger advantage on the ground. This fight swings on how much damage DP takes before he can get Cub to the ground and how long he can keep him there. Cub doesn’t have the best takedown defense, but gets very active when he gets taken down. Dustin has a very good chin, and sets up his takedowns well. It could steal fight of the night, could be dull. Porier via des.

For the Number one contender title!

Bantamweight  Title

Renan Barão (ic) vs. Michael McDonald

Roni: I like this fight! Both fighters are exciting. I was very impressed how fast “mayday” disposed of Torres. But I do think “barao” will keep his belt and setup his title unification against Cruz! And I look forward to both fights!  Renan wins via Sub in 2nd!

David: Barao is simply going to be able to take this fight wherever he wants. If he wants to fight standing, he can. If he wants to take the fight to the groubd, he can. I don’t see MacDonald either taking him down, or even if he does, he’s not going to keep a, yes Brazillian Black Belt down.
Much like Hendo, MacDonald has that right hand power that can drop anyone.
Problem is, Barao throws a ton of punches, its going to be hard to land one clean powershot.
I’ve got Barao frustrating Macdonald for 4 rounds, then catching him against the cage for a TKO.
