Pulling double duty this week NCAA fans. Here is how DJ, EJ, Archie, and myself see how the games turn out this weekend.
OCTOBER 25th, 2012
#19 Clemson Tigers at Wake Forrest
EJ- Clemson. Their offense is too much for Wake Forest to stop.
OCTOBER 26th, 2012
#21 Cincinnati at #16 Louisville
DJ- Cincinnati. Just a hunch.
EJ- Louisville. This game really could go either way as it is a rivalry game (the two face off for the Bucket of Nails trophy) but I feel the Cardinals under sophomore QB Teddy Bridgewater will take out Cincy at home.
Steve- Cincinnati: A must win for both teams. The loser is likely out of the Big East title discussion, thus out of a BCS bowl. The Bearcats have looked impressive this season, while the Cardinals have struggled a bit against teams they should be beating by large margins.
OCTOBER 27th, 2012
#12 Mississippi State at #1 Alabama
EJ- Alabama. Mississippi State is a nice story under head coach Dan Mullen but no one and I mean no one will stop AJ McCarron, the Bama rushing attack, and that Bama defense.
#2 Florida at #11 Georgia
DJ- Georgia. I like the Bulldogs to be able to move the ball and score in this huge college football rivalry. I’ll say Georgia wins, 23-20.
EJ- Florida. This game is truly a toss-up because Aaron Murray and the tandem of Gurley and Marshall at running back means that Georgia is the best offense Florida has seen so far this season, but I’m going to go with the high flying Gators. Driskel and company might play some ugly football on offense but the Gator D should do enough to stop the Bulldogs and the Gators win a close game in Jacksonville.
Steve- Give me the Gators. They looked inferior against South Carolina at home last weekend. Georgia is a solid team, and will be in the dome. This will be close. But Florida is clicking on all cyliders right now.
#17 Texas Tech at #4 Kansas State
DJ- Kansas State. The Wildcats are playing well with their own version of Tim Tebow and I think they could run the table and be playing for a NT. If they can keep this up. KSU wins, 31-20.
EJ- Kansas State. I really hope people pay attention to the job head coach Bill Snyder has been performing in Manhattan, Kansas. My hometown might be the Big Apple, but the Little Apple is home to one solid football team. The Collin Klein for Heisman campaign should steamroll the Red Raiders.
Archie- Kansas State
Steve- Kansas State. I am not afraid to say it. Kansas State may very well be the best team in the NCAA right now. They are playing like a team that is going to win the National Championship. After drubbing West Virginia, it will carry over against Texas Tech.
#5 Notre Dame at #9 Oklahoma
DJ: Oklahoma. The Irish struggled against a very good defense last week in BYU, but OU is much more athletic and they also have a better offense. I’ll say the Sooners win, 24-17.
EJ: Oklahoma. I still don’t really buy into the season Notre Dame is having. The Irish do possess a strong defense but Landry Jones and Blake Bell, the Belldozer, should both rack up some touchdowns in Norman on Saturday night. Sooners win big.
Archie: Homer Pick! Boomer ! Sooner !
Steve: Oklahoma. Notre Dame struggled against BYU at home. If they have anywhere close to that kind of game. This one will get out of hand…and fast.
Tennessee at #7 South Carolina
DJ: South Carolina.
EJ: South Carolina. The Gamecocks need this win to stay alive in the SEC East and I think the fire Vince Dooley noise has gotten to the Volunteers. I’m sure Steve Spurrier wouldn’t mind putting another nail in the coffin.
Archie: South Carolina
Steve: South Carolina
#8 Oregon State at Washington
DJ: Oregon State. The Beavers have a very good coach in Mike Riley. He has kept them relevant in the Pac-12 while they sucked before he got there. He flys under the radar a lot, but he will have the Beavers ready and winning on the road.
EJ: Oregon State. I slept on the Beavers earlier in the season. I won’t now. The Beavers run the ball and play hard nose defense. Mike Riley isn’t a flashy coach, and his squad isn’t flashy but they’re winning this season.
Archie: Oregon State
Steve: Washington. My very large gut tells me that Washington pulls the upset at home over the Beavers.
#10 USC at Arizona
EJ: USC. Matt Barkley and company have been playing some good football since their loss to Stanford. The Trojans are slowly climbing back up the rankings.
Duke at #14 Florida State
DJ: Florida State. Duke’s improved, but I can’t see them winning this on the road. FSU wins, 27-17.
EJ: Florida State. Duke is a great story, and props to Coach Cutcliffe for getting the Blue Devils into the Bowl season but the Dukies are not beating the Seminoles in Tallahassee.
Archie: Here’s Duke’s chance. Noles by 14
Steve: Florida State. Cinderella is about to get a “discount double check.”
#23 TCU at Oklahoma State
EJ: TCU. Trevone Boykin has been putting up some big numbers since he replaced Casey Pachall at quarterback. Those stats may not have resulted in wins but the Horned Frogs and their quarterback are growing together. Oklahoma State is in rebuild mode and should take another loss this Saturday.
Archie: TCU loses two in a row, OSU
Steve: Oklahoma State
Baylor at #24 Iowa State
DJ: Iowa State. Iowa State has a very good defense and their offense isn’t very good, but the Cyclones win, 24-23.
EJ: Baylor. I’m not even sure why Iowa State was ranked last week. Baylor will throw the ball all day on this Cyclones defense.
Archie: Iowa State
Steve: Baylor- Baylor can score, and can score often. I simply do not think the Cyclones can keep up with the Bears offense.
Ohio State at Penn State
DJ: Penn State. Miller may play, but the PSU front 7 is awesome and they will be attacking him in the backfield. Lions win, 27-21.
EJ: Ohio State. The Buckeyes are barely holding on to their unbeaten record but they caught a huge break with Braxton Miller being concussion free, and also injury free after being forced out of the game against Purdue last week. Braxton at full strength will get by the Nittany Lions.
Archie: would love to see a PSU victory, but I don’t think it will. Buckeyes.
Steve: Ohio State
Michigan at Nebraska
DJ: Michigan. Tough game to call here, but Nebraska’s defense hasn’t seen an electrifying player like Denard Robinson. Michigan wins, 31-27.
EJ: Michigan. The matchup between Denard Robinson and Taylor Martinez will be exciting to watch as two rushing quarterbacks go at it but I like Michigan’s defense to outlast Nebraska’s defense in this game.
Archie: Nebraska coming off a very motivating win at Northwestern, it would be easy to have a letdown. However, I will stick with them against the Wolverines.
Steve: Michigan. Probably the toughest game to pick out of these games. Michigan coming off a big win against Michigan State, and Nebraska coming from behind to beat Nebraska. Honestly, I go with the Wolverines because they won the coin flip.
Iowa at Northwestern
DJ: Iowa. Just a hunch. Northwestern has been excellent, but I like Kirk Ferentz to have his boys ready to play. Iowa wins, 23-16.
EJ: Iowa. Honestly? Either team can win this game and as much as I would like to give some great analysis as why the Hawkeyes will win this game I just can’t. Going with my gut on this one.
Archie: Northwestern back on it. Northwestern wins.
Steve: Northwestern: Despite losing a tough one to Nebraska in Evanston last weekend. The Wildcats will bounce back and take the win at home.
Ole Miss at Arkansas
DJ: Arkansas. The Hogs are starting to play the way people thought at the start of the season. Arkansas wins, 34-14.
EJ: Arkansas. The Razorbacks have won 2 straight to get to 3-4 and 2-2 in the SEC. They can’t run the ball worth a damn but Tyler Wilson leads a highly rated passing attack. I haven’t seen much of Ole Miss this season but looking at their stats so far this season I don’t get a strong feeling that they can win this game.
Archie: Arkansas appears to have righted the ship somewhat with impressive wins against Auburn and UK, but then who in the SEC has not beat these two. Still I will take Arkansas at home.
North Carolina State at North Carolina
DJ: North Carolina.
EJ: North Carolina. The Tarheels dropped a tough game to Duke last week but I’m not too convinced about NC State, even if the Wolfpack did beat FSU earlier this season. Tarheel QB Bryn Renner has fallen under the radar a bit but he’s a solid passer with a 17:5 TD to INT ratio this season.
Archie: I think the Wolf Pack will emerge victorious. This is a SWAG only.
(I almost flipped a coin)
Steve: North Carolina
BYU at Georgia Tech
DJ: BYU. BYU’s defense will be tested against GT’s offense, but I think they step up and win a tough road game, 24-20.
EJ: Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets may have an unimpressive 3-4 record but they’re also the 3rd best rushing attack in college football. The game is in Atlanta and I like the Jackets to run on a stout BYU defense.
Archie: Three of BYU’s losses have come against ranked opponents and all four losses have been by a total of 25 points total. Look for them to blow GT out of the water.
