If the FCS Had BCS Rankings… Week 7 Edition

There were some interesting upsets at the FCS level last week, with all four teams in the FCS coaches poll losing their matchups. It got me thinking… what if the FCS had a BCS-style ranking system that seeded teams for the annual playoff?

To compile the formula in a similar fashion to the FBS system in place, I used the FCS coaches poll and the Sports Network FCS poll as the two human polls. I then utilized four computer systems that rank FCS teams — those of Jeff Sagarin (JS), Peter Wolfe (PW), Steve Pugh (SP) and Kenneth Massey (KM) — and tallied those together. (Unlike the BCS, I don’t have six computer rankings from which a top and bottom score drop away. For the purposes of this exercise, it didn’t feel necessary.)

How would FCS football rank right now? Current #1 in the human polls, Eastern Washington, would remain atop the rankings. But other teams would rise or fall based on computer perception… sound familiar?

Here is the data for the top 25 FCS teams, according to the formula created by the BCS:
