Last week the panel, (DJ put his into the comments- and so can you) went 7-3 in the unanimous picks (did you have SF,Tampa and Waqshington?) And in the Split picks, Dan went 2-4 and ,DJ went 3-3 and David went 4-2
In the Sam’s Town, David made his 70% but failed at 75% So 1 down, 14 to go for 100K but no cash this week.
Lets Get to the Games!
Thursday, September 13
CHI at GB 8:20 PM, NFL
Dan: I think Green Bay is going to win this game. The Bears aren’t as good of a team as the 49ers are and the Packers are definitely looking to bounce back from a bad first week. The biggest concern for the Packers and their fans is the defense and how Green Bay will able to stop the Jay Cutler-Brandon Marshall duo that proved to work real well in Week 1 against Indianapolis. Overall, I think the Packers’ offense is going to bounce back and the Bears’ defense isn’t nearly as good as the 49ers’ defense is. I think the Packers are going to get a nice victory, especially since it’s a short week and the Packers are the better team. And at home.
Sunday, September 16
KC at BUF 1:00 PM, CBS
Dan: While I did go back & forth on this game, I think Kansas City is going to come out victorious. After seeing what happened in Week 1 against the Jets and the two injuries Buffalo had to two big playmakers (David Nelson out for the year; Fred Jackson out for three-plus weeks), I can’t go with Buffalo. They let Mark Sanchez, yes, Mark Sanchez, to throw for three touchdowns. I can’t imagine what kind of pathetic performance that the Buffalo secondary will have against an even better quarterback. Look for Cassell to be able to have just as much success as Mark Sanchez, if not more. KC wins
DJ: This is a tossup. Both teams played badly last week, KC allowed 40 points to the Falcons, and Buffalo allowed 48 to the Jets. And both teams are going to be bad. Both teams need a win to avoid an 0-2 start and I like Buffalo to win at home because they have a passing and running game. Plus, I trust Fitzpatrick a little more than I do Cassel. I see the Bills winning a shootout, 38-31.
CLE at CIN 1:00 PM, CBS
Dan: Is Brandon Weeden still the quarterback for Cleveland? I need say no more. Cincinnati is going to win easily. In the first half of Monday night’s game they were playing pretty well and BenJarvus Green-Ellis was moving the ball pretty well on the ground. And Baltimore is a very good team. Cincinnati is going to go off against a poor Cleveland team that has zero playmakers. Will Trent Richardson even be able to move the ball this week? I think he’ll be better off than last week, but that Browns’ offense still won’t be anything impressive. Andy Dalton and the rest of the Bengals are definitely looking forward to Sunday
MIN at IND 1:00 PM, FOX
David: I liked what I saw from the Colts last week, Luck got a bit of the jitters, as broken down here, and even though Peterson looked good, I think the Colts are going to come strong defensively, and I don’t see the home crowd letting the Minny get any pre-snap adjustments.
DJ: Vikes. The The Bears were chasing rookie QB Andrew Luck all over the field last weekend because the Colts offensive line is not very good at all or lucky. The right side of the OL is the main weakness. Jared Allen is the RDE and will be a matchup problem for Winston Justice. I think the Vikes win another close game before they struggle the rest of the season.
Luck completed just 23 of 45 passes for 309 yards, 1 TD and 3 INT’s. The Vikings will try and follow that same defensive gameplan of forcing Luck into making a lot of bad decisions throwing the ball. And Minnesota has a better running game, even with Adrian Peterson returning from a serious ACL injury.
OAK at MIA 1:00 PM, CBS
DJ: The Raiders will be traveling to the East Coast where they have struggled when they play an early game in recent seasons. But, they will be facing a rookie QB who threw 3 INT’s against the Texans. Oakland’s defensive line is the strength of the defense and they will be putting pressure on him to force him into mistakes. Miami has a pretty solid defense, but I just see the Raiders winning this, 27-17. Darren McFadden is going to make Carson Palmer’s job a lot easier this season.
ARI at NE 1:00 PM, FOX
DJ: The Patriots won a laugher in Tennessee. The Cards get to travel cross country to play 1 of the best offense’s in the NFL. NE wins, 41-10.
TB at NYG 1:00 PM, FOX
David: TB had a monster upset, in my mind, in taking down Carolina. The Giants were frustrated vs the Cowboys pass defense. They were outplayed, but still kept it close, I don’t expect Eli to play that poorly again, and the Bucs to lose ground early in the third.
BAL at PHI 1:00 PM, CBS
Dan: After Philadelphia and Michael Vick struggled against an awful Cleveland team, I don’t have much confidence that they’ll be able to beat Baltimore. If Vick had problems not turning the ball over against Cleveland, what is going to happen when he faces the Ravens’ defense? If I’m an Eagles’ fan, I’d be concerned with this match-up. Plus, Baltimore has a very good offense that they showed against Cincinnati on Monday Night Football. While I don’t see the Ravens’ offense having as much success as they did against Cincy since Philly’s D is much better, but I can definitely see them having enough success to get the victory.
DJ: So, I’m the only one to take the Eagles? Okay, good. I just like the Eagles at home. Vick had an awful game last week with 4 INT’s, but I don’t see him repeating that again. Even if it’s Baltimore’s defense he is facing. Baltimore is facing a better defense and offense this week
NO at CAR 1:00 PM, FOX
David: This isn’t strictly a homer pick. The Saints defense looked AWFUL and RG3 was able to rip it to shreds. Drew was under attack all day and that’s the second game in a row that the blueprint on that offense has been on display. Colston dropped a few passes and Brees really missed not having Meachem and Moore to throw out there when one guy had a bad game. Reminded me when the Rams started losing WR depth. Carolina can run the ball, and I expect Cam to return to form. If the Panthers D can hold New Orleans to 28 or less, they can win.
Dan: Week 1 wasn’t a good week for the Saints. They lost to the Redskins and RGIII passed all over their defense. But, you also have to look at what Drew Brees did. He didn’t play nearly as well as he usually does so I take that with a grain of salt and don’t put too much stock in his performance. This week, I think the Saints are going to have much more luck and are going to play an overall better game. I’m not too big on Carolina and I think that Cam Newton is going to have a down season compared to last year — the sophomore slump. Drew Brees passes all over Carolina, returns to his normal self, and the Saints’ offense wins the game for them.
HOU at JAC 1:00 PM, CBS
David: Is this a real game? Jax has ONE weapon, and a decent defense. Houston is going to destroy them. It may take a half before that defense tires, but it will, and the Texans will roll.
WSH at STL 4:05 PM, FOX
DJ: The Rams played a tough game against Detroit and showed improvement over last season, but Matt Stafford threw 3 INT’s and they still lost. That’s not a good sign at all. Robert Griffin III and the Redskins pulled an upset over the New Orleans Saints and I think they continue their winning ways early this season in this game. Redskins win, 27-17.
David: I think the Rams catch them in a let-down, and the Skins have trouble repeating the success of last week. I think Fisher is going to find a way to contain RG3 and the front seven of the Rams is MUCH better than the front seven of the Saints.
DAL at SEA 4:05 PM, FOX
DJ: The Seahawks looked bad against the Cardinals. Russell Wilson completed 18 of 34 passes for 153 yards, 1 TD and an INT. Against the Cards, Wilson was sacked 3 times. The Cowboys defense is a lot more imposing than Arizona’s. I expect Rob Ryan and the Dallas defense to be blitzing them early and often.
Dallas will win this one rather easily, 24-13, even without the home field advantage.
NYJ at PIT 4:25 PM, CBS
Dan: I have no confidence in the Jets or Mark Sanchez. Yes, he had a good Week 1 against Buffalo, but Pittsburgh is much better. And, with how Sanchez has played in his career, I just can’t see him having nearly as much success as he did last week. Just watch the Steelers offense run all over the Jets, especially since Pittsburgh is at home. Never want to go to Heinz Field. With zero trust in the Jets’ team, I have no other choice by to pick the Steelers.
TEN at SD 4:25 PM, CBS
DJ: The Chargers are at home and I think this is a very winnable game for them. Philip Rivers should be able to find the holes in Tennessee’s secondary with the loss of Cortland Finnegan. SD wins, 24-14.
DET at SF 8:20 PM, NBC
DJ: The 49ers looked pretty good against the Packers and Randy Moss caught all 4 passes thrown his way…for 47 yards, including a 20 yarder and a TD in the red zone. Mario Manningham also caught all 4 of his passes and looks like he will be a good fit.
The Lions struggled against the Rams and Matt Stafford had an awful game throwing 3 INT’s in 48 passes. Traveling to the West Coast and playing against an improved team like SF will be very tough. Not to mention, Stafford will be throwing against a much better secondary than STL’s, the 49ers had a ball hawking secondary last year.
I like SF to win this one, 27-16.
Monday, September 17
DEN at ATL 8:30 PM, ESPN
David: The Steelers looked bad last week, and I was not enthused by the offensive changes Haley made. The Falcons looked really good, and the secondary isn’t going to need to Hybrid much vs the run. I think Peyton comes back to ground this week.
DJ: Peyton Manning completed 19 of 26 passes for 253 yards with 2 TD’s against a solid Pittsburgh defense. He looked like vintage Manning as he dissected the Steelers defense. The Falcons looked good in beating a bad KC team, but Denver is a lot better than the Chiefs. Denver wins, 27-23.
