Last week I posted an article basically expressing my worry with the Braves chances of making the playoffs this year if their offense did not come alive. The article was not even cooled off before they scored 17 runs this weekend against the Mets. Dan Uggla and Brian McCann each had a good series and they were the two I called out the most for their lack luster performances at the dish. For the weekend they went a combined 11 for 20, .550BA. They had 7 RBIs and 3 homeruns. Yes Sir, I would say they woke up.
Now, while I am grateful to see the Braves offense perk up, I began this post to praise their pitching staff for their work the past seven games.
As a staff, they gave up only 12 runs (4 of those unearned) in the last seven games. That is a combined 1.12 ERA for the entire staff. And the starters combined for a 1.19 ERA with 6 wins and only 1 loss through those 7 games. Kimbrel was lights out again. He had 3 saves during that stretch putting him in a three way tie for the National League lead.
So, while the offense was trying to sort out their woes the Pitching staff was getting it done. They had a 31 consecutive scoreless inning stretch during that run as well.
So Kudos to the Braves pitching Staff.
I am feeling much better about their performance of late. It’s amazing at the difference three games can make. I feel really good now of the Braves not repeating last year’s drop off.
Get ready Milwaukee, here comes your old team into town.
