DJ and David talk NFC WEST

The DJ and David barnstorming through the NFL divisions continue!

THE NFC WEST

David: Plop

OK. Here we go.

1. STL Rams
That’s right, I think Bradford lives this year, and takes his place as a solid QB. I love Jeff Fisher as a coach, and think their front 7 is better than most think.

2. San Fran

David picked WHO?
Dumbass

Alex Smith can’t be this good right?
Last year he lead a dink and dump offense to an amazingly turnover free year.
What about adding Moss and the other weapons says dink and dump? Most of his INTs are when he tries to go more than 10 yards- think he’s throwing 3 yard curls to Moss?

3. Seattle
I just don’t like Petey, and when you get the “top” FA QB out there, and you misjudge him SO BAD that he’s not even starting?

4. Arizona

Matthew Berry said they were the worst team in football, I won’t go that far, but I do think they will stink, but I do think they have Skeletor as the QB of the future.

DJ:

1-San Francisco.

When they struck out in the Peyton Manning Sweepstakes, they set out to upgrade the offensive talent surrounding QB Alex Smith. They signed FA WR’s Mario Manningham and Randy Moss, and RB Brandon Jacobs. They drafted WR AJ Jenkins and RB LaMichael James.

They added some speed in Moss and Jenkins to help stretch the field and improve their 29th ranked passing offense and added some depth at RB to provide some insurance in case Frank Gore gets injured.

2-St. Louis.

Two-Time!
Two-Time!

The Rams are going to be an improved team with their free agent pickups and adding new coach Jeff Fisher, but I don’t see them overtaking the 49ers for 1st in the West. That’s a bit too optimistic.

3-Seattle.

I don’t think they misjudged their major FA signing at all. Wilson had a great preseason and he won the starting QB position over Matt Flynn. They have a lot of talent, but they have some holes as well.

4-Arizona.

Whomever is starting at QB will be scrambling behind one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.

David:

I’m sorry. Never said they would be GOOD.
Just better than San Fran.

The Rams get a huge break in the schedule- they get as the Bonus Games Tampa and Washington (week 2) plus they get the Jets at home.

The Niners? New Orleans and the Giants.

there is always one divison where a stinky team comes from the bottom and wins, and I’ll take a team with a number 1 overall pick QB, a PB) a solid, repected coach to beat SF out this year.

Let’s also not forget that Manning-gate probably didn’t help the confidence of Alex Smith.

Alex, you just had your best year EVER! What are you gonna do?

Sit at home, hope I don’t get replaced by a guy with 4 neck surgeries, and sign on the cheap while my team adds offensive parts that don’t fit my game.

Ok, who’s you team again? Oh right.

Say the Raiders REALLY needed a QB, and went out and bought the acclaimed best one on the market, you know instead of blowing two early picks. And Pryor outplayed him in camp.

That’s called a MISTAKE

This isn’t RG3 outplaying Grossman and getting the job. Here. That Flynn cash coukd have brought a corner/LB or some other help.

DJ

Fellas
What about US?

“I’m sorry. Never said they would be GOOD.
Just better than San Fran.”

The 49ers were 13-3 last season. St. Louis was 2-14.

And you think the Rams leapfrog them? Get out of here.

I am 1 of Jeff Fisher’s biggest supporters, but they aren’t going from last to first. I recently TD’ed that they might be able to fight for a WC berth and 2nd place finish, but even that is me being extremely optimisitc.

The 49ers improved their team, as did the Rams. But, St. Louis didn’t improve enough to overtake SF imo.

That’s a huge jump. I looked into my Crystal Ball and SF will win no worse than 11 games imo.

When I look at St. Louis, I see 9 games. And that’s me being generous.

“The Rams get a huge break in the schedule- they get as the Bonus Games Tampa and Washington (week 2) plus they get the Jets at home.

The Niners? New Orleans and the Giants.”

Washington and RG3 is no easy win for the Rams. The Redskins has a pretty solid defense and they added a QB that might be better than Bradford.

The Niners have the Jets, not the Rams, David.

David:

So using your own numbers, the Rams are TWO games worse than the Niners?

That’s a few bounces and a lucky pick away from taking the division.

That’s how Fisher has coached the Titans since seemingly the 60s. Fishers team always seem to get that extra bounce, that gave them a game or two to almost make or barely miss that wildcard. Heck he almost got a team with what? 3 HOFers a Superbowl ring.

The Rams have had early picks- and they hit on 3 of the 4. You can’t hide talent, and with 2-second generation stars, that front seven can be strong.

I just see Alex Smith returning to his career average INT rate- Moss being unused and later, unwelcome, Crabtree being a bust and only Frank Gore and Davis getting good numbers.

Neither team is going 14-2, or 8-8, but I think the Rams take the divsion, barely, and get blown out by the Saints

DJ

Actually, what I said, David was:

That’s a huge jump. I looked into my Crystal Ball and SF will win no worse than 11 games imo.

When I look at St. Louis, I see 9 games. And that’s me being generous.

“I just see Alex Smith returning to his career average INT rate”

Last year, they had Crabtree with 72 catches and Davis with 67. The 3rd best pass catcher was Kyle Williams with just 20 receptions. He didn’t have a lot to work with.

SF ranked 31st in 3rd down conversion rate and 30th in red zone touchdown percentage last season. And they were 29th in passing yardage.

SF didn’t have a great offense at all. This season, Smith has Crabtree and Moss starting at WR with Davis as his safety valve at TE. Manningham is going to come off the bench as the 3rd WR.

Neither team is going 14-2, or 8-8, but I think the Rams take the divsion”

The 49ers will win at least 11 games, probably closer to 12 games. The Rams will be better, but they aren’t going to win 9-10 more games than last season. They improved, but they didn’t improve that much.

8-8, maybe 9-7.
